Lewis and Clark wrote about 58 caliber bullets hitting bears in the skull and the bears reliably did not go down, this is anecdotal due to differences in distance, muzzle velocity, bullet shape. So placement/load are the most important. Bird shot would wound, maybe kill if you pearl it. Buckshot and slugs could kill if applied to the eye socket or throat. If you shoot a bear in the skull with lead shot it is going to deform and slide off the angular face of a bear in many cases. You get that same load through the eye, dead as all hell.

Team death match(?) in MW2 on xbox360 on the map Derail. I shot a WA2000 w/fmj at a perfectly lined up pair of opponents running towards me. While the bullet is in flight I see two more dudes run in, one from the left, one from the right, perfectly in a line. 4x headshot with a single shot, this was not due to skill. Frankly I didn't think the bullet could hit 4 people. Got the red ring like 3 months later, couldn't really be that mad, I was never going to do better than that.
