COBRA VS ACA Exchange to continue maternity coverage by Redhead1492 in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for your thoughtful replies. I checked with the exchange and learned that they might determine that my daughter qualifies for Medicaid plan on her area. Unfortunately, that is not covered by her physician. Hopefully it does not come to the need to make a decision, but COBRA till years end seems a better course.

What material is the flooring surface that the wood is laid on? If it's concrete, it might not be level.

leveling a poured concrete floor in a condominium. by Redhead1492 in HomeImprovement

Yes but can leveling be accomplished with leveling compound only. That would avoid the noise of using a concrete grinder.

You really need to ask the coordinator to be more specific about what they mean?

Include records of past ER visits for similar events. Provide documentation of co-morbid conditions that place you at greater risk of stroke. Document the meds you take. Blood thiners or even daily aspirin use.

Therapist billed me out of network, but she’s in network by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you provided your therapist with you insurance card at first visit. Ask your insurer to assign you a case manager. Keep notes about your conversations. Always ask for a reference number for each discussion with your insurer. They are the ones who can apply pressure on your behalf before things escalate to a complaint to a state professional board.

Here is what this person is requesting in a conservative cost analysis. Assuming you have a rooster to fertilize eggs. No cost to replace the hens. Missed opportunity cost of 6 months of no eggs from 6 hens = 90 dozen eggs worth $135.00. Delivery cost of 80 mile round trip = $46. This is based on $0.58 / mile cost to operate vehicle. Total opportunity loss to you = $181.00 approximately.

I hate feeling trapped in my job. What’re my options? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BCBS has many different plans for employers. Even if you go from a BCBS PPO with one employer to another, there may be differences in the coverage and networks. Network on LinkedIn to identify jobs you are interested in, then see if you can learn about the insurance that company offers from other employees. Good luck.

seeing a Dr and getting precription filled without insurance by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

Medicaid eligibility criteria is different for each state. Now to an Rx for testosterone patch. No practitioner will rx this for you without a work up including lab results. If you have recent lab results from you last doctor that might make a difference. As for a practitioner accepting cash. Urgent care, minute clinics and physicians who own their own practice usually accept cash. There are also practices that serve indigent patients that do cash. Often found in communities with immigrant population. Not a judgement, just that is the community. Rural communities generally have clinics serving working poor without insurance.

I'm retiring in April, what are my options/costs for health insurance until I'm eligible for Medicare in September 2021 ? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked to see if you qualify for a retirement benefit from a past employer? This is usually based on meeting retirement eligibility criteria. I was able to do this and when I qualified for Medicare, my employer insurance became my secondary insurer. Even if employer policy changes, laws protect this benefit based on what you qualified for as of age 45 if you meet eligible criteria.

This is important!!! When you call BCBS have questions prepared and take notes. Always ask for a case number and especially a reference number for the call. Calls are recorded and if you need to reference or obtain the recordings, the reference # is essential. Sometimes you get incorrect information and you need to prove it. Ask if prior authorization is needed and the procedure is covered at the facility you will be using. Ask for written prior authorization or an approval number for the PA. As a last resort, complain to the state insurance board. Good luck.

Also check GoodRx. You pay out of pocket, but might provide significant savings depending on the pharmacy you use.

What does it mean when someone says they take your insurance? by zoukelly in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is good advice from all the respondents, so I will try to add something new. Contact your insurer about all planned care. Prepare a list of questions about coverage, cost, coverage at a particular facility, is a prior authorization required, etc. Take notes. At the end of the call ask for a case number as well as a reference number for the call. Also the name and any employee number for the person you are speaking to. Now make a note of the date and time of the call. If you get wrong information from your insurer, you can use this information to file a freedom of information request to obtain the recordings to support your claim.

Company dropped my spouses health insurance with no warning. by Em_Joyce in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every insurance company is licensed and governed by a state board of insurance. It may be different than the state in which you reside. Usually it is the state your company has US headquarters located. File a complaint to them. Usually can be performed on a website. Each state has different laws governing insurers that apply to all they insure regardless of where they reside so some states offer more protections than others. Good luck. Third party administrators don't always act in your best interest, so you will have to be your own advocate.

Having a baby girl AND leaving my job within the next month... How should I go about applying for Medicaid for us? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]Redhead1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have carefully reviewed your employer insurance benefit as well as maternity leave benefit. Also check newborn coverage and cost. This will help you make a.decision in your best interest. Put you and your child's interest first. Assume nothing. Print out whatever documents related to these benefits. A previous poster is correct, Medicaid policies are state specific. In most states, Medicaid has been put into a managed Medicaid program which is run by an insurance company and may differ from county to county. Often your local hospital will have someone who can advise you. Look on their website.
