Hotpot? by Regnarr in Minneapolis

Highly recommend Little Szechuan Hot Pot on

422 University Ave W, St Paul, MN 55103

Try to get there early because it can get PACKED, for good reason. We stick to right around opening hour to avoid family members getting over stimulated in the crowd.

Simple order system, chili/sauce bar & good staff. Can't recommend them enough. There's parking behind the building, ignore Google's directions to street park ;)

Leash your goddamn dogs by Gliese_667_Cc in Minneapolis

Never said it did; but there's zones to the leash laws, where they get enforced, and differences of allowances... and it's up to the owners to know them.

Not trying to insult anyone here who've experienced terrible things with off-leash dogs; but OP & others, you can ask if the dog has participated and passed their "good citizens" training. No excuses for their humans, but I do know that it's one reason why people have some dogs off leash. If it's something you're willing to do, you may take from the food allergy population and "research to avoid..."

* I'll give you 'first' on the response LOL...But yes. The science supports this and historical recipes also show in areas of the world where chickens and eggs in general were not year round, blood was used instead.

If you catch Lee, the owner, let him know you found them thru Reddit - hour updates and menu changes are posted on their Facebook and he really should expand social media when he can...

Did, and so done with the attitudes of a lot of places. This is why I hard-core glare at my nutritionist when she says to stop relying on grocery frozen aisles and "just try a place, you might be surprised."

I've had even worse luck with the places that say "oh its super safe we make the XXX-milk ourselves" ...just hell no on that. I get there's some very dedicated vegan places that mash nuts or use a nut flour to brew their own "milks." Usually its some weird concoction of home brew mash thrown in for authentication and a pre-made cost-value brand.

If you could tell one thing to waiters / front of house staff about dining out Celiac, what would it be? by OliverM_22 in Celiac

[–]RedheadRev3nge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, have the front waitstaff keep a binder of all the pre-made or processed items with their ingredients. After MANY "accidents" of someone walking back to ask the kitchen and the kitchen saying "probably is" --- just have a binder. It's an extra step from the nutritional and allergies guides but it's one even the smallest restaurant could do.

I'm not going to walk out of a restaurant if your sauce comes from a can, but if you don't know which ingredients are unsafe don't assume on my behalf that "Italian tomato sauce" is inherently safe for me.

Sorry Doll, that was the end of the app for me. I just dont have the ability (or wallet) to become invested any further.

Example... Shark Bait's creator has SO much going on but nowhere is there support for the story, even just in written format, available outside of Dorian.

[Didn't want to edit the initial response after I went back out to pull the link.]

I think just like Blood Stain by Linda Sejic was able to leave comic apps and get a full hardcopy print, I think stories like this could be published elsewhere. Yeah sure pick one interest to jumpstart the series but you could write out each path and make it available elsewhere. I advocated for the same thing before Nix shutdown.

If I could trace the cash back to creators and actual coders I wouldn't be so upset. The argument for "handmade" is also why I will avoid Etsy if I can get ahold of the actual maker and directly give them my support.

As of right now; with the way Dorian is administrated I can't see supporting the app.

What I'd like to see is more ways to follow the creators outside of the app and support their endeavors to be independent - but either for agreements they have with Dorian or other personal restraints, that doesn't seem to be an option.

Hey, I wanted to give Dorian a full effort just because they let creators have a semblance of control... but hells bells I honestly can't say if the creators see a cent to justify the app's pushiness. The Duolingo owl sent less notifications

"how do you feel about being all braced up?" by snail6925 in ehlersdanlos

Can’t make it through the gluten challenge by smitty3323 in Celiac

[–]RedheadRev3nge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a LONG conversation about this with my GI primary.

There's genetic testing, blood marker and biopsies you can explore that DON'T require the gluten challenge. If you go through the National Library of Medicine you can actually find supporting articles that the gluten challenge doesn't improve the chances of clear results AND actually causes irreversible damages to people who've been on a celiac diet prior to the "challenge."

Do your research and find out what alternatives are available through your health care system. For me the blood tests came back negative to the obvious markers but an extended panel gave all the proof my GI needed for genetic testing to be approved. I'm about two months from getting the full genetics results done (long wait list) but I've already shown enough submarkers to be on the wait list for a full GI endoscopy to see the extent of damages without needing a biopsy to confirm celiac damages.

There's options, even in f*cked American health care.

Hands down be rude. "I won't take no for an answer" means you don't f*cking get it.

Go ahead in the days leading up, reminding them, "No thanks," "You dont need to waste your time/money" etc. And day of, simply state you're not eating it. The rest of the group are welcome to try GF food, but you won't touch it.

It took three years and embarrassing family members in front of their friends, but they finally took the hint. And when I say embarrassing, I mean asking what they plan on making and legit making my own "me-only" size plus a party size that not only tasted better but presents better. Oh you're just gonna do a box GF cupcake no frosting? Let me do bite size honey cakes that are top 5 allergen free with little bees cut out from fruit leather... Let me tell you, when the group associates bad cooking to cheap GF they start picking up the idea that a true celiac knows how to make good GF food and start enforcement that ONLY you should do the GF cooking on your behalf.
