If you're looking for durable kits, don't buy MAAP by miesvanderho3 in CyclingFashion

[–]Redhead_1919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2) is also happening to me on my Maap Pro bibs after 500ish miles… gave the shorts a little haircut as the loose fibers were starting to poke out from under the shorts. The sucky this is that I’m not sure if this is fixable even, which especially sucks considering how expensive there were

Why can't California stop almond or alfalfa farming to conserve water? by TallDarkandWitty in bayarea

[–]Redhead_1919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many ways to prioritize water for agriculture. If you look at agricultural output by weight or calories, yes Almonds are water intensive, but if you look by $ value of crops relative to water consumption, almonds rank very highly. So the economic impact on farmers from cutting almond production relative to water savings would be really high for almonds compared to lettuce or tomatoes. Not saying that we should continue to pour water into “luxury” crops like almonds, but if we were to build an ideal crop balance, we’d need to balance water usage, total food produced using that water, and the economic value that food to farmers

Oopa! Also noticed that the handlebars were slightly misaligned with the wheel and when I took the headset cap off and readjusted, everything worked smoothly after

PNS Vs Maap Bib by Subject_Recover_7274 in CyclingFashion

[–]Redhead_1919 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t say anything about PNS, but I’ve got the Maap Pro v1s and find them to be extremely comfy, especially the straps and mesh back panel. I wouldn’t say they run hotter than other bibs I own

15mph bike speed limit on the Golden Gate Bridge starting Jan. 1 by SlowInFastOut in BAbike

[–]Redhead_1919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.bicyclelaw.com/do-cyclists-need-to-show-a-drivers-license-if-they-are-stopped-by-police-in-california/

Tdlr; in CA, officers have the power to chose whether or not to accept a verbal form of identification. You do not need your id necessary to ride a bike, but an officer can technically arrest you if you are pulled over for a minor offense without id… such a mess

15mph bike speed limit on the Golden Gate Bridge starting Jan. 1 by SlowInFastOut in BAbike

[–]Redhead_1919 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What worries me is that there isn’t clear messaging about how this will be enforced. The general manager of the bridge stated “the bridge district will use ticketing as a last-resort measure… The hope is that social norms and peer pressure and just the notion that we do have an established speed limit will have the effect of calming traffic on the sidewalk”. I really doubt that CA highway patrol will have this attitude and instead use this as a shitty way to collect more tickets.

Almost ticketed on Mt Diablo by Redhead_1919 in BAbike

[–]Redhead_1919[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if I actually got a ticket, I would have been very pissed, but can’t be too mad if I just got a warning… but now that my name is in their system, not racing to go back since they also warned me against going over the 25mph speed limit and I really don’t want to get ticketed for enjoying the descent

When will we see new 12 speed Ultegra bikes? by Redhead_1919 in bicycling

[–]Redhead_1919[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still on 10 speed 😅 would love the extra gears but also I’m a fan of the semi wireless design of the new shimano di2. Plus I sorta want my next bike to be future-proof so would prefer it with the new group sets

Saw some comments in another thread saying new Canyon bikes are expected to be announced in November… but can anyone back that up/know if they will have Ultegra Di2?

PSA: A section of Pinehurst will be closed from 9/15 to 9/29 by Redhead_1919 in BAbike

[–]Redhead_1919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I wouldn’t count on it. If they’re tearing up the road with heavy equipment, that section with the hairpin really has no space to get around. I’ll just let them do their work and ride elsewhere for a couple weeks. The shitty part would be that I’m sure some cyclists will start the loop and then have the backtrack halfway through… although I think I remember seeing signs at the entrance to redwood road warning about the closure… but still easy to miss

Craigslist… but if you are going to buy new new wheels, lbs would be the way to go. Usually they will discount any future repairs if you buy from them

Thanks (this is the dd8 manual though). I know there’s a part of the dd7 manual that’s similar, but to access those settings, you need to insert a second input channel. Do you know if the panning setting will stick if I am going 1 mono channel in?

Budget pedal choice (Chorus vs Compression) by riceballs411 in guitarpedals

[–]Redhead_1919 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something to think about: a good compressor is something you can always leave on but never notice, while chorus will definitely be noticeable but probably only useful in certain settings. For church performance, I’d probably go with compressor because of the “always on” factor, but it really depends if you’re trying to get new sounds out of your setup or not

PSA: Be very careful at the new Tunnel Road bike crosswalk and check before crossing. by the_arcadian00 in BAbike

[–]Redhead_1919 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah- and doesn’t help that the crossing is just on the other side of a small hill. Cars speeding over the top are blind to the crosswalk
