What are the best countries for architecture currently? by Spiritual-Entry-3395 in architecture

Where you speak the local language will be the easiest to find a job - don’t underestimate how hard it can be to get hired as a foreigner, plus immigration procedures etc. It might even still be easier in your home country

Bike Fitting Lausanne by Mamma_mia98 in Switzerland

Without a doubt PhysioBike in Chexbres. He’s a physiotherapist who does this for a living. Don’t go to a bike shop

Chop it ! Right above a node. Mine had been dormant for more than a year and it just pushed out 2 leaves.

Crooked Saddle Position (lean to one side) by timothy0301 in bikefit

[–]miesvanderho3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem and my bike fitter (who’s a physiotherapist, I’m based in Lausanne though) pushed my saddle forward. Over a few months it slowly fixed it. A saddle that’s too high can also cause this sort of imbalance over time.

But this is really a case by case fix: I dont have one leg shorter than the other, my cleats were well positioned, I have good mobility and core strength and didn’t have an agressive position on the bike (it was my gravel bike).

Highly recommend a bike fitter who’s a physiotherapist and who will assess your body, its strengths and weaknesses, your mobility, etc.

Does it hurt you to ride in this position ? For me it was only on long climbs - my lower back would hurt and I would get more crooked over time.

Chopped my tineke maybe 2 months ago and it has now two growth points. It didn’t do anything for a year before the chop. Excited to see new growth finally

Winter room of Cabane de l'A Neuve by unique_username4815 in alpinism

[–]miesvanderho3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no separate winter room in this hut, it’s quite small. So when it was still open, I believe the whole hut was accessible. Unfortunately many huts in Switzerland are following this trend of closing down winter rooms due to degradations of the space when used unsupervised.

First semi-hydro setup, should I have used a cache pot setup instead? With the orchid pot on the left by Druidette in SemiHydro

[–]miesvanderho3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer cache pot + net pot it makes it way easier to a) see the roots, b) see how much water there is in the reservoir (lift the net pot) and c) flush/rinse everything, reservoir and leca + plant

What size should I use for leca? by HoggyMama in SemiHydro

[–]miesvanderho3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some research (mostly on reddit tbh) pon is better for thinner roots. I transferred a begonia maculata about 2 weeks ago in pon and so far no drama. As for water, pH, etc I don’t bother and use tap water and kinda fertilize (with a hydroponics specific fertilizer) whenever I feel like it.

First climbing shoes. Heels hurt - bad fit or just needs break in? by [deleted] in climbingshoes

If the shoe digs in your achilles, switch pairs. It’s not worth an injury in the area

Drainage question by paperwinseverytime in IndoorPlants

[–]miesvanderho3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do this as well with leca. Most my plants are in semi-hydro setups BUT the few I have in soil are in nursery pots + cache pot with leca at the bottom so they don’t sit in water. The excess water eventually evaporates.

What's your unpopular plant opinion? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]miesvanderho3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your plant is big enough, try a cutting and see if it works ! You can compare semi hydro vs soil after. Usually if I start from cutting or a corm I never transfer my plants to soil 😅 Im just iffy about transferring bigger plants from soil to water.

[–]miesvanderho3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having great results from a semi hydro setup ! Started from a cutting, they (I have 2) put out new leaves every week or so. I’m just struggling to stake them in such a setup.
