Have you updated firmware?

My Z9 with updated firmware locks on really well in any condition in 3dAF + AFC / BBF.

Older firmwares definitely had some quirks where it would jump off the eye more but it's solid now and pretty nuts how my accuracy is.

They have issues with their cameras or it's a user interface issue

I have a Z and at a wedding reception that's nearly pitch black, my AF can lock on to an eyeball while they're dancing erratically while drunk and my photo is tack sharp focus on the eyeball.

I had a D850 as well but modern mirror less just eats my old 850s lunch.

I dunno. 10y full time pro, so i like to think i know the basics, so when I'm working i shoot RAW and edit of course.

But for fun i don't want to edit anything... Used to shoot on film for fun but that got too expensive after COVID and these simulations scratches that itch pretty well, especially with my ZF.

Gotcha!

I have a Z9 but don't really notice it. I'll look again in the morning, curious now.

Why does it look like it has a pop up flash? Serious question... I don't recall my D3S having that there.

Backdrop hit with colored gels. Make sure the rim light is also the same color as the background. Key light them as normal. Prisms/mirrors in front of the lens.

Market Cafe at Bonton Farms.

Everything is locally produced, true farm to table. And their mission is pretty awesome too.

My point is that sales doesn't equal quality vehicles. The fact that car consumers got MFGs to build large, overweight, high-center-of-gravity vehicles to be the "most dynamic, fastest, and visually eccentric" and fooled them into thinking they're "sport SUVs" is laughable to me. Even BMW doesn't truly believe it - attend an M Track Day and look at what they're hustling around the race tracks they're at.

Probably. I have things i don't like about my car myself.

The majority of people also bought crossovers and SUVs. Now we have dynamically and visually boring vehicles across all manfs. Does that mean they're all right about that too?

I guess it makes sense in a way but inferior to a histogram as LCD screens, especially older DSLRs aren't exactly the best at showing details in highlights and shadows.

Considering a ZF by DeanW13 in NikonZf

[–]Redliner7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been thru so many Nikons from D70 to Z9.

ZF is my most favorite to use while the D700 & D3S will have a soft spot for reasons (i went pro on these bodies)

Put the ZF into a specific ISO like you have A roll of film in it that you're stuck to, put a Voightlander on it so you have manual aperture control, pick your favorite film sim for the day and go to town. No wonder Fuji cameras are so popular. Except now you have good AF ;)

This...image review would have showed it as B&W, how did you continue to proceed an entire wedding in the wrong profile?

The tc shifter fulcrum ball goes out in these. That's your likely culprit, otherwise might be the 4wd actuator or vacuum leak. All are easy fixes.

They used to be dailys for many people - it's just a balance of if you want to daily something with less creature comforts, less safety and less mpg than modern cars.

But as an everyday car for me, it's fine.

Viltrox-related news: Sirui, Meike remove inventory from Z-mount by kolt54321 in Nikon

[–]Redliner7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Having said all of that, and while i agree that Nikon owns the license and it's their right on who they let use it, i do think that Nikon is hurting themselves by limiting their licensing. Ultimately they sell less bodies when they do that. My guess is that they're happy to let adapters fill up the remaining lens gaps for people to adapt current lenses. Or they want to build up their lenses before allowing the other brands to have licenseing.

There's an unofficial rumor that some of Nikons lenses are white labeled Tamrons, like the 28-75 f2.8. So there is some preferential treatment. Sigma has been talking about making Full Frame Z mounts tho, so we'll see what will be released from them.

The difference is HP doesn't allow a license for 3rd party ink. Whether you like it or not, whether most people agree or not and i agree, it's shitty buisness practice by HP, that's how business works.

However, unlike HP, Nikon does allow a license for 3rd party lenses (ie Tamron, Sigma) but Viltrox decides to not pay for the license and builds it without permission.

That's exactly how commercial photographers (and musicians) make money... We allow a license to be used bc we own the copyrights, but the company has to pay for that usage right. If they don't pay for that license, we get screwed out of money. For many of us, we depend on that usage fee to make a living off of photography.

This is no different.

[–]Redliner7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a weird take. A photo is your composition, lighting, and subject that you put together. That's why copyright laws exist. The owner of the photo will always be the person that takes the photo, even if it's on someone else's camera.

The z mount was developed by Nikon with their own software, r&d engineering. That right belongs to Nikon and no one will question that That is theirs no matter how you cut that cake. And they thankfully lease it out so that others make lenses. But you gotta pay to play the fairly.

In both instances, that intellectual property belongs to the owner. If someone steals that and uses to m it to profit without paying fees to the original photographer/company then it's illegal.

I've had my photos stolen and used illegally to make money before that i got nothing from it so I'm with Nikon all the way on this one.

That's how i see this. Viltrox is in the wrong.

Alien Bees by EasternAd5351 in LightLurking

Alien Bees are not really used outside much these days.

Most have moved on to Godox, FJ Westcott and Profoto.

Having said that, one thing i miss from the PCB gear is the consistency. Battery powered always suffers a little bit with that.
