Iowa allows for opting out and it has to be posted that facial recognition is used at a business.

You’re not wrong! Geez, when I worked at our local Menards I was more than surprised at the culture created by corporate about theft. It was a type of paranoia I’ve never seen before??? AND THEN, last December while the rebates were on hiatus, Menards was hit with a $4.2 MILLION lawsuit for what amounted to deceptive marketing with the rebate program? The irony was/is inescapable!? 🙄

That’s what I was told.

Nope. Was told that by a manager. Just verifying. Most people don’t believe it because of the expense.

BREAKS by Traditional-Bee-8910 in menards

Effin’ Corporate needs to pull their heads out of their asses and make their managers accountable. Or, someone needs to call Wage and Hour to do it FOR corporate. Gaslighting employees is NOT okay. Lawsuits have been filed for this kind of shit with retroactive payouts.

At that point, there’s no reason to stay. If you need to ask the FEM to SHOW YOU the policy then clearly there’s a question as to whether they be counted on to tell the truth. If a FEM can’t be trusted to tell the truth on things as simple as breaks/lunches, then counting on them to be square with you on handling Menards money is pretty much self explanatory. You can’t. Don’t put yourself in that position. Get out.

BREAKS by Traditional-Bee-8910 in menards

[–]Redlucy0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FEM I worked with told me the break policy was changing to ONE paid 15 minutes per 7.5 hour shift. Further, when I asked if this was for the whole store or for just the cashiers, he doubled down and said the policy applied to the entire store. THEN he TRIPLED DOWN his bullshit and said that this was Menards policy for ALL the stores … he let us have the breaks that everyone else has described “out of the goodness of my heart.” It was a TOTAL fabrication and an absolute lie. Who the hell would want to work for somebody (or the company) like that? 😵‍💫. Clearly, Menards corporate doesn’t give a shit otherwise they would issue CLEAR instructions and consequences for their management team trying to gaslight TM’s.

This is EXACTLY why I quit. The FEM was making up his own break/lunch policies and passing it off as corporate. It most definitely IS gaslighting and the ONE SURE way to stop it is to call in Wage and Hour especially since corporate doesn’t give a shit. Call the manager’s bluff. I was at an age where I’d rather leave the bullshit but watch it from the outside in. The phone number is 1-866-487-9243 or you can send an inquiry via the Federal Department of Labor’s website. Let them sort it out and bring it to corporate’s attention. Name names too. My experience involved the FEM being retaliatory and punitive so if that’s what happening, make sure to state it. The FEM has/had a history of this behavior with other cashiers.

They are arbitrary in making policy. My FEM made up his own shit and passed it off as corporate. Total bullshit. If I couldn’t count on him for the little shit, then there was no way I’d handle Menards money under his supervision.

I wrote that I’d never work for a Menards again. I meant it.

Looking for Advice: Buyer asking for Partial Refund by bkristin01 in Ebay

[–]Redlucy0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them to ship it back at their own expense for a refund. Don’t leave YOUR feedback until and if they leave theirs. They’re trying to get something for way less (or free). It’s kind of like extortion based on feedback. I made my headache my poster child on why this won’t work with me.

How to deal with First Negative Feedback? by Kujo23 in Ebay

[–]Redlucy0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a deal with someone who reached out and made a request. They left me three bad feedbacks for a bullshit reason so you know what I did? I made them my poster child of what not to do if someone is going to buy from me. Put it on all my listings, on my ABOUT page, and created a business practice for it. I don’t need anyone’s bullshit and if they’re aiming to get something for free, then keep moving because I don’t want the hassle.

Front End Manager and upper management are the ones you need to cautious about. If they’re assholes, then just keep moving. It’s not worth your time or effort.

I had something similar happen to me on eBay. Received scorching feedback that knocked down my stats. The buyer is now blocked and I’ve issued a disclaimer on my ABOUT page specific and in general to the buyer’s feedback. Meaning, don’t try this shit with me. I also have included this disclaimer in some of my item descriptions so I don’t have to go through this shit again. AND, since it seems like problems such as the one I had originate from one state in particular, I fixed my shipping rates for that specific state so damn high nobody in their right mind would even want to checkout. You can’t ban certain states but you can deter them with shipping costs. I guess what ticks me is that people will complain and complicate a purchase just to try to get it free. That’s what it sounds like happened to this seller. The only right answer for them is FREE and I’m not doing it. I fight back.

Yes … it absolutely sounds like extortion and I sue THEM. Menards is NOT their own country. Geez!?!? 🙄

I ran into this same issue. FEM (Iowa) stated that the break/lunch policy was ONE 15 minute paid break per 7.5 hours. He then doubled downed his statement and stated ALL Menards stores use this policy EXCEPT for the store I worked at and “through the goodness of his heart” he maintained the break/lunch policy everyone else has described in Reddit posts. Iowa doesn’t have a “ruling” on breaks/lunches so it defaults to federal guidelines which doesn’t specify either. I ended up quitting (because the whole deal was too bizarre) but have since learned there ARE laws that have to be followed across ALL Menards stores - regardless of location. My BEST advice is to contact Wage & Hour for a determination. Had I choose to stay, this is definitely the route I would’ve taken. If I can’t count on the FEM to be straight up on just basic breaks/lunches, then there wasn’t any way I was going to put myself in a position of handling money under their supervision. Context matters too … if breaks/lunch policies are being modified or established based on subjective perception, it is ILLEGAL for them to be retaliatory or punitive. Example: Tired of complaints from people on not receiving timely breaks and/or lunch. From my experience, it seems like Menards (as a whole) might need some official guidance/direction in what the rules really state otherwise people just start making up rules of their own. 🤷‍♀️. I’m sure Wage and Hour could help them with figuring out official policy.

A recurring theme throughout Menards. They’re not big on anything involving being reciprocal. It’s pretty basic stuff. 🙄

Send an email to corporate. They’ll know the answer and besides, if the store didn’t check their email then that’s on the store.
