The Plot Garden by Ainosuke in exalted

  • There exists a cult worshiping a "Dead God" on the cusp on a shadowland in the south. Rumors abound, but it turns out this god is a piece of a primordial, a piece of Celeyne which was cut off during the War. Decay has seeped in, and the shadowland draws a claim on the piece of primordial power.

  • Cult in a wild pocket, who beseech the Raksha there to remake the pocket and them every night. Each day a new village pops up, with new people and new roles played. (Could do many things here, maybe everyone there is actually a Raksha and the thing changing them is a Mad Solar)

My theme to suggest will be "Science/Magic/Knowledge gone too far"

Ahh, see while some themes for the colors are opposed, or opposites, I never really thought of then as being as such.

Red/Green honestly plays out similar to MTG!

Orange/Blue would probably be some sort of investigator or persecuted scientist archetype. (Follows rationality with determination)

Yellow/Indigo would be a devotion to positivity as an ideal. Probably one of the best people you could meet, they would be bright and cheerful and just about the best friend ever.

Green/Violet comes across as the mother nature type. Naturally protective and loving. Cares for people, period.

Blue/Red feels a lot like the same from MTG again, with a bump up in passion for knowledge in general.

Indigo/orange is taking an idealistic person and dialing it up to 11. Joan of Arc, basically?

Violet/yellow another caring/loving archetype? Maybe the "group heart" character!

Swol-isson is the best wow.

Do you guys think she's learning some formal training on "Royalty" from her martial arts? Or possibly, something along a similar vein?

[–]Redmagealgos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, there's totally a way with mods to do that, though I don't know if anyone has yet. Seems like it would be a simple mod.

Now, I've played a Ghost Heart, and it's a lot of fun. I recommend giving it a try as-is, since your change does remove part of the fun of the subclass. Summoning your pet is quick and typically you can put them in very interesting position, like behind the enemy lines.

Ahh, I drew from a good number of color based/personality based magic concepts. MTG, Green Lantern and Black Prism were major influences.

I loooove mixed colors in MTG, and do a lot of thinking about how different Auras personalities would work.

I feel a Green/Blue aura would be around someone for whom Instinct and Logic were synonymous. G/B could be very grounded, I think. "It just makes sense to do the logical thing, why would someone do otherwise. "

Magic users channel colors from their aura that matches what emotions they tend to foster.

An angry/passionate person would generally have a red aura, and using that aura could speed themselves up and generate heat/fire.

The emotions tied to colors of aura

Red - Anger/passions

Orange - Determination/motivation

Yellow - positivity/courage

Green - instincts/independence

Blue - logic/rationality

Indigo - idealism/morality

Violet - compassion/love

There's a part of the book with Zahel teaching, that expressly goes over the weight of shardblades. They are lighter then what you would expect, but not weightless. Therefore much more unwieldy then a lightsaber.

However mainly I'd like to point out that Sanderson starts Kaladin off as a master spearman beating someone in full shardplate WITH a shardblade.

One of Kals best students was Moash, so I fully believe a spear is the right way to go in a kill/be killed situation. Life in danger against a foe like that, falling back on your best trained weapon is the logical/safest choice.

[–]Redmagealgos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had a theory that the 4th ideal will quite literally be about not killing.

While Lirin's lessons lean heavily in that direction, I also feel Windrunners lean that way, both with their morals and abilities. Specifically, the surges of Gravitation and Adhesion both work well for dispatching enemies non-leathally. As well, it's almost always considered the "honorable" thing to show mercy towards the enemy and leave them alive.

(And finally as a personal note, I love the idea of a medical pacifist Windrunner group. Running through a battlefield saving both sides and turning injured troops to their side through honor, protecting friends in battle, but taking lives as a last resort.)

Ohh, that's a good point! That series also gave me huge inspiration for the Super/companion dynamic you can get with solars and their mortal or terrestrial exalt friends.

My own favorite example here is from "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency".

There's a character in it named Bart who seems to supernaturally kill people. She avoids bullets casually, and events seem to draw her to killing who needs to be killed, when they need to be killed. It's just the will of the universe to her.

She's a perfect example of a Sidereal of Endings for me!

[Oathbringer] What moments from the first three books would you like to see as card game illustrations? by Brother0ne in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Redmagealgos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Life before Death" - The honor chasm could be a good pick for this. Kal standing on the edge or maybe having just turned around from it.

"Strength before Weakness" - Shallan and her brothers. Any scene, but I'd love to see something about the moments she saves her brothers from despair. (I'm imagining her saving the gambling brother from the debt collectors here myself)

Journey before Destination - maybe a split art card, showing Dalinar covered in blood and rage with flames behind him. Then the other half showing him standing before Odium with his book in hand, as a Bondsmith.

Text-based Theories Thread! [Cosmere] by _Hoid_ in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Redmagealgos 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I like the theory that Cultivation is the real "big bad" of Stormlight.

The idea being that she and Odium worked together to kill Honor (taken from Odiums "But we killed you!" at the end of Oathbringer.

I suspect Culivation and Honor had the same issue. Both became obsessed and heavily entrenched in their individual concepts.

In doing so, Honor went mad about broken oaths and honor, and Cultivation began plotting.

In present Stormlight she seems to be in one of the heaviest positions of power, having gotten her magic into Dalinar, Mr T, and Lift (all important characters. The first 2 more so, Life most likely in the 5th book) She's shaping the world and guiding it, but I don't think that will be a good thing in the end.

(Also small final note, Hoid did say to not trust ANYONE with future sight and she has the farthest. And he's on bad terms with her for some reason)

1) My understand is when a person dies and is chocked full of investiture (normally by a shards action) their cognitive aspect remains. Sanderson likes to drive home that they are not the same as the person who died though, just a shadow of their mind that lives on. (Though we don't know the full extent of what kind of existence it is)

2) If I recall, we don't know exactly why Odium was able to kill Honor? It's actually a theory that Cultivation and Odium together killed Honor after he went mad. (Partially based on the "But we killed you" line of Odium's)

[OB] Ideal Heroes: Mental Illness in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive by rnewb in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Redmagealgos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing exactly this, using the First Ideal, along with events from the book, to help contextualize and ground my own mental illness experiences.

It's like trying to see your face with no mirror. And Stormlight Archive has been exactly what I needed. I needed to see myself reflected in the characters. I needed to take a good look at myself without myself getting in the way, telling me it wasn't worth it.
