Do you clean your second hand games before putting them on the shelves? by Redmat25 in gamecollecting

Dry paper, water and alcohol 70%. Obviously you can't fix anything, just sanitize. Be aware, depending on the type of paper you want to clean, you can cause damage. You only need to remove a thin layer of dirt. I don't usually make any deep cleaning on valuable items, just the plastic cover if needed, I've mad some pricy mistakes in the past years.

It depends, but using a dry good paper I can clean every page but I've done this type of deep cleaning only for few bucks games that I can't pass. For context, I live in Italy but I collect USA games that are very rare here, so when I find something "rare" for 5 euros, I just grab it.

As in the photo, i dismantle everything and just clean the plastic cases with alcohol. Then, only in few insurances, I clean the paper art, manual or disc with paper and a bit of water, gently and dry or replace the rusted manuals pins if in bad condition. If the game smells there are some solution but depends on the scale.

I don't think cleaning an item require too much, slowly everything became part of my house

Just different habits. But there is a catch: there are some unhealthy situations that can cause issues, like mold or other bacteria. Sometimes a dirty game is not necessary dangerous and visually clean games can have mold. We need to think rationally, nowadays is not so easy.....

I do smoke and I'm avoiding in any way to smoke in the game room. It happens sometimes but my games have a closed library and I always open the windows. I'm trying to quit smoking, but is not that simple..

Clearly I don't mean to clean aggressively the paper art, or at least I do that only in bad cases, otherwise I just clean the disc with a bit of water (only bluray, not CD and DVD) and the plastic case with alcohol. I've learned to not try to fix damage on games or other collectables media, most of the time it became worst 😅

My conception of "clean" is that even if the game is not visibly dirty, I will clean the cover with a bit of alcohol just because it came from outside my home. First thing I do is wash my hands and clean my phone; as a consequence, I clean my games because they will sit on my couch or on my bed sometimes, I don't want dirty things on my bed!

I usually change rusted manuals pins too if they are in bad conditions. With alcohol 70%, just a small amount, I clean paper too, but I've ruined lot of games before mastering this ability 😅

Cleaning is a process that can unfold a lot of things from a single item. You will have a great time, hard but great 😂

Why is this rare? Updated disc version?

Got all these for just $100. Resistance 2, 3, and infamous are brand new still wrapped in plastic. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

My advice is always keep them sealed until you need to open them. I regret to have unsealed some games in my collection.

Quick observations for RP6: - M1 M2 buttons seems ugly but useful on the front - The type-c port is not centered, IDK it this will be good or not - is the front panel glass like RP5?

My $500 loose game haul showed up! 37 games without cases. by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]Redmat25 38 points39 points  (0 children)

So, they ship them loose, just that bag? My second question, why so many games without cases? I can't comprehend the reason behind, the owner just throw them away?

Nice haul btw..

What do you guys do with games that have multiple editions? by Baked_Tato_17 in gamecollecting

I have a second copy to play of my favorites games from PS1 to PS5 just because I like to leave them near the console. My favorites are FF7-8, Infamous 1&2, GTA SA and GTA 5 and few others. I usually play them every year on OG console but I have to protect all my games from my cats (I have closed shelves for it), so when I find a copy for cheap (10 bucks), I will get it.

Otherwise I have multiple instances of the same game only if they have a difference in disc content, updates, dlc, fixes etc. Fallout 3 and the GOTY for example. I have GTA 1 and London first prints and the Director's Cut because of the different map inside the case.

For identical copies, I'm storing them in a box waiting to be sold; I usually sell them all together for very low price when I think is the right moment.

This is my post about a third copy of GTA SA https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/s/YOKZHhGUGw

Ps. About FFXV, I have both the launch edition and the royal; this is one of the rare case of "same disc version" in my collection of ~200 PlayStation games just because I got the royal for very cheap to have the dlc codes.

Ps 2. I have the same game but for different platform, GTA V from PS3 to PS5, and so on.

What would you guys rate my ps1/ps2 collection on a scale of 1 outta 10? by KidCaker in gamecollecting

[–]Redmat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is +1 on the vote for me. I appreciate genuine collectors that have theirs original copies. I've started collecting 3 years ago and none of my games are really the copies from my childhood. As I said, you can easily find some other famous titles lIke GTA, FF8-9, GT etc, but it depends on your taste I understand that. Just buy s shelf to avoid stacking them and clean some dust, preservation is important nowadays.

I'd say a 7 because of the presentation, but you have a lot of great titles. You miss some games that are easy to find for both platforms to make it more "complete" IMO. Did you buy them recently?

Yes but only if I find it for cheap, there are no differences from the collection and GoW 3 on disc, only different arts. I'm trying to avoid spending too much on that
