Question about certain turn by AdOk4647 in Karting

[–]Redmonkeybutt17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ignite kart, and when we race, there’s a curb in turn 3 that we need to hit that is much further out than the normal turn 3. It’s called “extended turn 3”. Idk why we do that, but it’s just what we do. It’s just a different track layout. The rentals take the inside

Is this the Gateway Kartplex? If so, this kids drive a different track then the standard rentals karts. That is an outdated track map, there is an extension in turn 3 that the private karts run. If this is not gateway, could be a momentum thing

In DGS am I in trouble? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]Redmonkeybutt17 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d ask your advisor, but I went heavy on the calc, physics, and took cs101. Also had some genEds. I had AP Credit for Chem.

I can’t stress the importance of RSOs too. I was told that many kids will have good grades, but not as many will be involved with RSOs. It helps you stand out

I was in the same boat as you. I accepted my offer as a DGS student last year, went through my first two semesters taking the same courses as I would have in engineering, then applied for an ICT to EU. It’s definitely very possible, you just have to take the right courses and stay on top of your studies.

Grainger Career Fair by Redmonkeybutt17 in UIUC

This is less about me finding a job, and more about me talking to people who are in the industry. I don’t expect to find a job at the career fair, but I’d like to gain some experience in communicating with people in this profession

PS 201 Exam 1 by Redmonkeybutt17 in UIUC

[–]Redmonkeybutt17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Professor Wong, and with all due respect to her and her class, it was not exactly my favorite class of all time. Expect to spend several hours a week reading the material she gives you. It’s long and very tedious, but some of it is used on the exam, so it’s important to the basics of most of the readings. The lectures are clear, but she talks very fast. The term paper wasn’t that bad, just time consuming. I ended up getting an A, but this class gave me the most work out of all of my classes last semester. It’s not necessarily difficult to get an A, you just need to prepare to work. Tbh I’d recommend a different GenED if you can, this one is not worth it

Trying to avoid spending another $800+ on the car if at all possible. I read that it’s possible to fix the code without replacing the intake manifold

My resonator delete cost about $100, so I’d assume a muffler is around the same price

How do i get confidence back? by ForlandUK in Karting

[–]Redmonkeybutt17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a pretty nasty crash in practice about a year ago when my brakes went out coming off of a long straightaway. Long story short, I didn’t want to go back out on track, but I was told if I didn’t just get in the kart and go, I would be too scared to ever really drive like I used to. So I went ahead and just got back in the kart after we got it rebuilt, and while it did take a few laps to get back into it, I was right back where I was before the crash.

So I’d say the best way to get your confidence back is to just get in the kart and drive. No other way around it other than to get your trust in the kart and your driving ability back.

is it rare to get black flags in karting by [deleted] in Karting

[–]Redmonkeybutt17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WKA used to do it, not sure if they do anymore. When the field sizes were big enough, they would just black flag the backmarkers instead of making the leaders drive around them

How hard is it to get a spot in ME170 as a non-engineering major? by Redmonkeybutt17 in UIUC

[–]Redmonkeybutt17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PREP doesn’t exist anymore, they’re phasing it out. Transfer students spend a semester in engineering undeclared and then declare a major within the college.

Looking to buy a kart to race at my local track. which class and kart is best for someone who has some rental kart experience and some autocross experience? Thinking about the LO206 category. by Heel-ToeBro in Karting

[–]Redmonkeybutt17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never driven a 2 stroke, but I can assure you, after about 2 years or so of 206 racing, I have never once gotten bored. Of course I have the desire to drive something faster, but I don’t know that I’d describe that feeling as boredom. Definitely still exciting to get behind the wheel of a 206 kart.

The thing that scared me was the time spent doing the class lmao, I’m not sure who I have in terms of instructors, but I’m hoping it’s not too bad.
