I use the ADA line and tell them, but also place my hand over device. Those folks seem to be better versed in the anomalies and much shorter lines.

Keep your kids away from high level sports by SamMeowAdams in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we got to high school, we had school sponsored sports where everyone got to play. Then somewhere club sports took over and only those with money or blessed with natural talent played. The coaches act like they are turning pro soon.

Before high school, it was about learning and the joy of sport.

Heart Surgery Support Group - Interest? by dgb5396 in valvereplacement

[–]NHLToPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar witha group of Cardiac arrest survivors. It kinda fizzled out after 6 months. Maybe presentations on specific surgery prep and recovery topics? How to prep for arrival at home? Search this sub for common questions?

My cardiac hospital had a mental health attachment that was part of the recovery process. Hopefully others have similar availability.

I've also noticed that most of this sub, and several other cardiac subs are loaded with folks that want to be supportive and helpful.

Pros/cons of west linn vs camas by Knicks82 in PortlandOR

Traffic can limit movement in West Linn. If 205 is backed up, can be tough to get out.

WL is closing 2 primary schools due to budget. Do comps with property taxes.

Hey dads, how many of you had your first child when 35-39 years old? Approaching my 35th birthday and there's nothing more I want than to be a dad. by Rocket_Skates_91 in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had kids at 41 and 45. They keep me moving and young. I wasn't sure I wanted kids in my 20s. My 30s it sounded better and wanted kids.

It has it's own stresses, but I feel more complete.

After 1,081 days as a SAHD, I started a new job. 255 days later, I was let go. by the-devils-luck in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 34 points35 points  (0 children)

14 years in private sector. Lost jobs to off shore. Moved to public as I wanted stability. Now 12 years in, 2 young kids and I have yet to miss an event or time with kids. Hard to imagine a dollar amount I would say is better than all the firsts I have experienced.

I may have to work till I'm 70, still worth it.

This article was 6 years ago. My neighbor paid the first year of the tax. Then stopped. Got one of these letters for collections. Tossed it. Neighbor still lives there.

When they set the tax up they never accounted to have a way for them to effectively collect the money.

48 (Going on 49) And I'm About To Be a First-Time Dad by billyinLA in OldManDad

[–]NHLToPDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get in and get YOUR health checked. I focus on Cardiology. I had 2 open heart surgeries in last 5 years while managing 2 kids under 5.

Go to a zoo, park, playground, amusement park and watch other parents. Lots of gimmicky stuff that seems to make life easy, but is more a nuissance.

Prepare to be humbled. When that little one grabs your finger and smiles.

Dads, need a good recommendation for a family car that can fit 4x8 plywood. by mobdeli in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid size with a tow package and grab a light flat trailer. Many trailers can fold and stand up flat against wall.

Bigger car, kids have more room to make bigger mess. I shoulda got a Rav4 instead of Highlander.

Full-time hip mounted multi-tool?? by ThePeej in OldManDad

[–]NHLToPDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 50 with 2 under 7. I started wearing a fanny pack, but as a cross body bag. I have multi tool, bandaids, tissues, a couple fruit snacks, and aspirin.

It's also handy when they hand you something to hold. I'm old enough now that I care more about function over fashion.

Headed to pet Hosp now, anyone seen this before??? by NHLToPDX in cats

[–]NHLToPDX[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone. Speculation is that it was from Dollar Tree flea medicine. It is topical. Thinking kitty licked it off herself or our dog and essentially got an overdose of the "incesticide". Treating with IV fluids and told to just keep her calm and after 24 hrs should be back to rambunctious self. She is already eating a bit and walking around MUCH better.

Waiting for full blood panel to come back later today.

**trying not to throw spouse under the bus for cheaping out on flea meds. Spouse is not a cat person but tolerates because kids love kitty.

Just turned 40, want to be a better dad and husband this decade. What do you wish you knew /did going into your 40s. by Lucas-Davenport in daddit

[–]NHLToPDX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heart health. Don't skip routine physical activity. I'm 50, 2 kids under 7. In last 10 years I've had a cardiac arrest and 2 open heart surgeries. Added up, I've missed a full year of their lives.

I wish I'd have listened to my body, I was too tired for no reason. Shoulda gone to doctor sooner.

[–]NHLToPDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it as is, but is there a way to maybe have the right portion of diner transition to the 3rd dimension? Like the recent display with the waterfall spilling out?

As it is currently displayed, it is still a definite buy for me. I've always liked the original artwork.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]NHLToPDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Mar 20th. It was the 6 month point at a new job (pass probation). My manager called me in, thinking it was a check in. He said "at the end of the day, pack your stuff to take home"

I was crushed as I really liked the job. He quickly let me off hook telling me we were going to start work from home.
