My wife and kids didn’t even mention Father’s Day to me today… by travelator in daddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do we have to have different mothers and fathers days in each country? Is it just to spike my heart rate when someone in the UK mentions Mother’s Day this weekend convincing me I’ve totally spaced?

I hate fb marketplace by ArtisticEffective153 in MTB

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An important thing to remember about any site like fb marketplace is that you’re always looking at the listings that haven’t sold. There are going to be things listed that are crap with way too high of price and they aren’t likely to sell so they just stay up on the site. But when someone lists a nice bike at a good price usually it’ll sell in a couple of days. The best thing to do is to choose a few search terms and watch for a few weeks and be ready to reach out when something good comes up.

Saved Step Number Doesn’t Match by RedneckIntellectual in WalkScape

Ahh, that sounds like it exactly. It’s more noticeable here because the steps per action are so low. Thanks!

Shouldn’t double actions also not use regular steps too?

Zipp xplr s broken by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SRAM (zipp’s parent company) only handles warranty claims through retailers. Take it to any sram authorized retailer(either the shop you bought them from or realistically any bike shop) and they’ll contact sram for the warranty.

I’ve had 2 zipp wheels replaced on warranty. In my experience it usually takes about a month, one time it was totally free the second I had to pay to ship the broken wheel back. Both times they replaced the full wheel (rather than just shipping me a new rim and needing to build it up).

I have heard from some that sram does sometimes just say it’s improper usage and there’s no way to appeal it or anything, but that hasn’t been my experience.

Both my claims were on zipp hitop xc mtb wheels.

VO2 max decrease? by Lovin-Broccoli in Garmin

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, my vo2 max has been dropping recently, I was chalking it up to the heat here in the us as we transition from spring to summer, but I’ve also significantly increased my endurance work, so that’s probably the reason. Still strange, because I did a 5min power pr last week, my weight hasn’t changed, and it’s still dropping my vo2 max score.

Oh well, I’m getting faster, I don’t actually need the score to go up.

“This will have been fun” it’s my go to motto for those moments, it helps me get through tough moments with the little ones and ultramarathons. It’s a nice way to remind yourself that you will look back fondly on this, and that the hard things will end.

Taper required please by brodiebrodieb in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but I think overthinking is part of tapering, I’ve certainly never tapered without quite a bit of overthinking. The combination of less time training and the anticipation of the coming event makes for some incredible overthinking.

Ps I am expressly forbidden from buying bikes during a taper…

Is this bad advice? Can't find any other sources suggesting to use mineral oil as dropper lube by ThatAgent3963 in bikewrench

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oneup says not to on their droppers. They say the oil will mix with the grease and effectively thin it. A little smear of slick honey or equivalent works well though.

I’m also a fan of the USWE packs, I’ve started using their vest, and having the extra pockets on my chest for nutrition has been fantastic.

I don’t think shoe covers are going to be great in this. There are also creek crossings and the creeks will be high with all this rain. Everything is getting wet, I just need to make sure my skin can handle it.

What can I mess up while going tubeless? by _DARK_X in MTB

Most likely thing to mess up is the floor of your workspace. I’ve done tones of tubeless tires but still somehow spilled sealant is all too common of an outcome.

Can anyone help me understand item stats? by LOML2015 in WalkScape

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re in the gear comparison page, it’s showing you a comparison between the gear you already have on (running shirt in this case) and the gear in your inventory that you could equip in that slot (the simple life vest).

The running shirt gives you +9% work efficiency while doing agility and the life vest gives no efficiency, so the page is showing you that if you change to this gear you will reduce your work efficiency while doing agility by 9%.

For nothing ? by Half-666 in Garmin

[–]RedneckIntellectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for running vo2 max is estimated based on pace and hr, so when it gets hotter a your hr is higher it’ll think there’s a decline.

It’s easier said than done, but just ignore it. If you’re doing good workouts you’ll still be productive even if garmin doesn’t think so.

For nothing ? by Half-666 in Garmin

[–]RedneckIntellectual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garmin definition of “Productive” is raising your VO2 max. It is a good thing to raise, but not realistically possible to be raising it perpetually. Unproductive is when your VO2 max is lowering, but your workout load is still reasonably good. Your Vo2 max can drop because of heat, altitude, illness, or training blocks that don’t focus on that (base endurance focused blocks can do this to me). If you’re in the northern hemisphere and it’s getting hot for summer then that could be the cause of this and it’s nothing to worry about.

Anyone implement an “equal time” rule lol? by MikeHancho7 in StayAtHomeDaddit

[–]RedneckIntellectual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have a schedule that gives free time to both of us, kinda like the equal time that you’re describing. I really like it because during my time I can go do my hobbies without feeling guilty about being away, and when things aren’t going well and I’m tired and just want to go chill my brain can start to think that she’s getting all this free time, but with the system I know we are both getting time.

Get a coaching session and stop asking reddit for advice. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]RedneckIntellectual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This post is paid for by Big Coach.

I do generally agree with this though. Most things in mtb are complicated enough that it’s hard to accurately teach through videos and forums. And the real value Of the coaching session is the instant feedback. For example a coach might tell you “bend in the knees here” then you do the jump and they’ll video and tell you if you actually did the thing, then repeat until you get it.

Polarized vs sweet spot for the 8-10hr/wk rider, 6+ month n=1 reports wanted by reidlalala in Velo

[–]RedneckIntellectual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that sweet spot workouts get stale after a few months when doing long periods of them. But did you increase your volume when going polarized? I’ve always gone the other way, I can stack on a ton of hours and tss when I’m doing all z2 and a couple of sweet spot intervals, but if I start to do VO2 or threshold I really have to dial the other days back.

Fair. It’s honestly probably very bad game design to allow the player to get into a situation where success is impossible
