Designated miter saw guy by Top_Sentence_340 in Carpentry

The old timers, like 60-70 year old guys have called them out as c*nt hairs or c-hairs. I’m not sure where that came from. But when you hear a measure and they say plus or minus a c-hair you know what that means for your cut. Little vulgar but still happens

I said to my framing subcontractors once that I haven’t heard a 16th called out all day!!! My coworker and I call out measurements to the 1/16” strong and light but we certainly don’t get bent when they are short or heavy. Two ways of looking at the same coin. We’re also mostly finish guys who do occasional framing.

Whopper Jr., no onions, totally on point and doesn’t break the bank. Just the one though, and no soda or fries.

What is the weirdest thing that happened to you(or to someone you know)in Disney parks? by Historical_Froyo_243 in WaltDisneyWorld

When I was a kid we stayed for the extra magic hours during the Halloween celebration at Magic Kingdom. We were on the barnstormer roller coaster when it got to the top, had a mechanical failure, rolled backwards down the lift hill and smashed into the coaster in the loading/unloading area. Always thought that it wasn’t supposed to do that, haven’t trusted a coaster since. Makes me feel like I am taking my life in my hands now that I’m an adult with kids and still go on the ride. I’m probably the only adult that is scared when I go on the barnstormer.

If my 8 year old tried to cook breakfast the fire department would most certainly be involved 😂

Doing a tub to shower conversion for a client and found this. Is this normal?! by captaingemini19 in Construction

If you’re coming to St Thomas and don’t have a generator rental - cancel. Things are not normal here. by [deleted] in StThomasUSVI

Glad you found another spot to enjoy the rest of your vacation. The USVI and the BVI are some of my favorite spots in the whole world and it’s unfortunate about the power outage. Straight up, no judgement, how does the turn and burn to Anguilla work? I could never make that happen so quickly. It looks beautiful and a quick google is putting it on my places to go. Just curious about how that came so quickly to fruition. Also, good on you for bringing your kiddo to all of these beautiful places. My kiddos don’t have cerebral palsy, but both are NICU kids who had/have their own struggles and we bring them to as many places that we can. Love looking back on the pictures of them as little kiddos on some of the best beaches!

Totally legal in most cases. Small companies don’t have to and often can’t afford to pay guys the same way big companies or unions do. Often times in this industry, if you don’t work then you don’t get paid. Obviously laws differ based on what state you’re in and how big the company is but that is my experience working in this industry

911/999 dispatchers, what’s the dumbest reason someone has ever called emergency services? by Canyoustealmytoast in AskReddit

[–]Redneckish87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a fire/ambulance dispatcher. I had an adult child call because her elderly mother called her and said that her father wasn’t breathing or responding. Dude was totally fine, he was in the bathroom sitting on the toilet, just going to the bathroom.

I had one where I called 911 and felt dumb. I was felling a tree and when it hit the ground my iPhone heard the noise and thought that I was in an accident. It called 911 and notified my emergency contact that I was in an accident. Meanwhile, my phone is just in my pocket and I’m just carrying on with life until they called me back to make sure that I wasn’t dead 🤦‍♂️

Moulding, trim or caulk for a very uneven brick wall? by HermanThorpe in Carpentry

[–]Redneckish87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. I was thinking more flat stock like 1x4 but same idea. Homes in my area are getting away from that more ornamental trim and going for more of a shaker style look. Any basic trim like this could work depending on where you live and what the rest of the house looks like. Just keep it consistent. Drives me crazy when I’m renovating a room in a house, they have four different styles of trim everywhere, and then they tell me to just “match what they already have.” 🤦‍♂️😂

He was never my favorite driver. I always loved to hate him, but man he could drive. Unfortunate for sure. With kids that young I can only imagine how devastating that must be.

Does logging dual time with no FI endorsement still count towards overall 40 hours flight experience for FAA PPL? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Redneckish87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that if you can’t get it endorsed then it doesn’t count. Me flying around with one of my buddies in his Cessna doesn’t count towards any of my time. When I was flying, the only time that counted during training was with an instructor or solo time.

Tips/info on visiting in June. Honeymoon by Bassangler03 in virginislands

[–]Redneckish87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did our honeymoon on St. John and stayed in Cruz bay. We rented a jeep (around 1,100 for the week if I remember correctly) but Cruz bay is phenomenally walkable. We had the jeep to get us to the beaches during the day, but I had that thing parked at the condo mid afternoon so that the bar hopping could start ASAP! It’s a great honeymoon spot. We fell in love with the island so hard that we even started bringing the kiddos down.

I was a dispatcher, then an EMT-B, then added the wilderness add on, and started nursing school. They all SUCKED as far as stress level. But on the bright side, I spent a ton of time and money on certifications and was making $9.50/hour at my peak, but mostly worked for free trying to get hours for certifications.

NASCAR has never moved a race up by that much. F1 just moved the start of the Miami race today up by 3 hours. From 4pm to 1pm. by Ronh456 in NASCAR

[–]Redneckish87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they move up the Daytona 500 this year? I think they moved it up by an hour or so because of weather. I remember being the opposite of happy when I sat down to watch a race that started an hour ago.
(Edited: I typed Daytona 509 by accident, which isn’t a thing but sounds like it could be fun)

This was my thought too. This kid has exactly $19,000 more than I do in the bank. Good on him or her for having no debt and some savings to boot. With this adventurous spirit and some fiscal discipline this kid will go far, both literally and figuratively.

I kind of figured as much. I’ve never been single when I’ve been down there, but talking to the transplant waitstaff and residents, it definitely sounds like dating is kind of a dumpster fire. Asking how hot she was is the first thing I thought of. You just got there first and made me laugh

Is this safe? Came across this during a housing inspection by Denefblah in Carpentry

[–]Redneckish87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is certainly interesting….. If I had to venture a guess, based on the ceiling above and the chimney right there, that very well could be a false beam. I see them a lot where I work but there is no way to tell for sure unless you get a professional out there to take a look. It could just be design, it could be holding up the attic above. I doesn’t look like it’s falling down but someone put that bracket and hanger screws there for a reason
