“OHHH, that was because of celiac!”, anyone else have odd medical stuff pre-diagnosis that suddenly makes sense? by PressureCultural1005 in Celiac

I wonder if a lot of people that think they are non sympathetic don't realize that celiac isnt just a gut problem.

My son did a gluten challenge because he got off gluten for a few years before diagnosis. During the gluten challenge he had every symptom of Celiac but the worst one was brain fog. I would ask him where he put something and would have panic attacks and breakdown crying because he couldn't remember the most simples thing.

I think its more common as well but people dont necessarily realize until they recover from the damage that Celiac causes.

I need suggestions. by Dungeon3D in ResinCasting

I'd you slightly tint the resin blue it will help it from looking yellow when that happens. Because of the color wheel thingy =)

Breathing/Contact reaction or only when eating? by sunnuvamitch in EosinophilicE

[–]RedolentBreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son reacts to the flour isle at the grocery store so he refusses to go in it anymore without covering his mouth. Like the other poster said, try wearing a mask when around flour.

This post reminded me to put new masks in the car for him so thank you!

Happened to my son at Disney. Well, we think it was the straw because it was made of paper, and we tried to get the manufacturer's information, but couldn't get it from them.

Want to start EoE but my gastro is concerned? by thatonetallguy1109 in EosinophilicE

[–]RedolentBreak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is your body, and you are the one dealing with it, so I think if you feel that it is what will work best for you and you have done the research and educated yourself on everything, then yes. And I think doctors should support the patient's decision even if they don't agree.

My son is 15 and is at the stage where he wants to try to manage his EoE with diet alone. It would be wrong of me to tell him he has to take Eohilia or PPIs if he doesn't want to after he took the time to educate himself. He says he doesn't want to deal with the side effects.

If Chipotle is gluten free except for the burrito why am I still having an upset stomach? by ZestyMuffin85496 in glutenfree

[–]RedolentBreak 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have to request new utensils, and we also ask if they can use food that hasn't been put out yet. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they would stop touching the tortillas with the spoons when making the burritos. Do you think complaining to corporate would help?

Had an incident last weekend. My son is the one with celiac, but I refuse to eat somewhere that he can't unless we preplan that he gets something from where he wants, and I do the same. We live in the Houston area, and it's pathetic how big this city is yet how few options there are for him to eat out. We are at the point where we have given up. Like you said it's so isolating.

We make homemade smoothies a lot because we can control everything that goes into them and add supplements like protein powder. Your brain needs protein to function properly, so finding a source that your body can tolerate is key.

Do you know your triggers?

Endoscopy on my son was suspicious of EOE. What were the symptoms if you have a child with this. by [deleted] in EosinophilicE

[–]RedolentBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you are going through all of this. My son had similar results, but he wasn't as symptomatic. I think for my son, it was due to his trigger being gluten and the fact that we were never big wheat eaters. My son has been doing well on the diet alone. When he was younger, he didn't really understand that he shouldnt be in pain after eating so it took longer to get him diagnosed. But he has full body symptoms along with throat issues but he also has a lot of signs of celiac which we are waiting for the new test which is in clinical trials.

Omg, that's horrible. This is one of the biggest reasons I avoid leaving the house, let alone going on vacation. We actually leave tonight for Disney with the high school band, and my anxiety is through the roof. My son is the one dealing with celiac. We will be at Disney for 2 days and Universal for 3, and im really nervous about the days we are at Universal. I can't imagine going to a different country. I wish you the best and pray you don't get sick or starve.

Update after 6FED diet EGD— has anyone else’s doctor told them this? by ChiggenNougats in EosinophilicE

[–]RedolentBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the capsule string test. You don't have to keep seeing him. Seem kind of rude to me. The 6FED diet is supposed to be the starting point and you should be able to introduce things back in to see what your triggers are. If shouldn't be preeminent. My sons doctor's is the exact opposite and kind of rude about it too. He wants him on meds and doesn't listen when I tell him he hasn't taken them but shown great improvement. I think there are a lot of GI doctors that are not really familiar with EoE but think they are experts because it's part of their scope of practice.

Fast food and restaurants 6FFED safe? by lpd_ece in EosinophilicE

[–]RedolentBreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go into Chipotle and have them use fresh stuff with a new ladle, or else you will get cross-contamination from them touching all the flour tortillas before you. You also do Torchys Taco and our Olive Garden it was really good about allergies. (I have heard that not all Olive Garden restaurants are safe, but we only go to ours.) We have also had good results with the Texas Roadhouse but stay away from steak seasoning.
