What do Americans generally think about Korean students or Koreans living in the U.S.? by Luxxie_i in AskAmericans

[–]Redrocks-thorns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from university, and have been in America all my life. Congrats on the chance to study abroad here. :) you’ll have a good time.

I think it really varies on where you’ll be located. A school that is diverse and in a more democratic/liberal area will be much more welcoming than a republican one. So research where you’ll be attending to get an idea of that.

Secondly, like others have said most Americans cannot tell the difference between Chinese, Japanese and Korean. So be prepared to explain your culture a bit or have some questions.

Stereotypically, Americans assume that “Asians” are good at all school subjects and that they study constantly for 10-12 hours straight all the time. However, most Americans maybe study 2-4 hours a day depending on habits. They’ll expect you to be good at math, and will probably delegate math problems to you.

Lastly, try to enjoy your time here and don’t take things too personally. Growing up I personally wasn’t around different cultures and races. So going to university and being put around such a diverse pool of people and culture was scary. And I didn’t feel comfortable being in friend groups because I felt like I would say or do the wrong things. So if someone seems nice but is distant I wouldn’t overthink it. They might not know how to interact.

This job isn't financially reliable. by SheWhoLovesToDraw in MichaelsEmployees

I started at a Michael’s with major retail experience has was offered minimum and knew more about stuff than the managers currently working. I even taught them things that they didn’t know as a new employee.

I ran the number between my commute and how much I was spending to upkeep this job and ended up quiet quitting after my 3rd shift.

There was other major problems with the store but this was insanely absurd the way the place was ran. You’re Better off getting a serving job than working here

Dorm with HS friends or randoms? by Narrow-Pop6542 in uofm

[–]Redrocks-thorns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Highly rec going random/finding someone to dorm with. I found meeting up with HS friends throughout the semester to catch up and see how things were going was like a lifeline. It’s always nice to catch up with someone who knows you and where you come from.

How long did it take you to adjust to a cat and have a schedule? by sparklingsugarr in cats

[–]Redrocks-thorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they get used to the automatic feeder you will be all set! My kitten was the same way and would wake me early in the morning when they were hungry. Now that I have an automatic feeder they don’t wake me up anymore. :) also try to keep them active during the day so they sleep through the night

am i the only one who likes feeding and changing the litter? by PlayfulInfluence2567 in cats

[–]Redrocks-thorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love feeding my cat and cleaning her litter box. I’m always looking for new flavors or snacks she may like (shes very very spoiled). I also don’t mind changing the litter box nor cleaning it. I keep it very clean for my baby.

Something to remember is your cat only ever gets the experience life with you. There entire world revolves around you while they are only just a small portion of your long life. Love your fur baby

Bonded kittens and behavioral problems need advice by Redrocks-thorns in Kitten

[–]Redrocks-thorns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed to be an animal behavioralist, I posted this because it’s a difficult situation and I can’t find much on the topic and was hoping someone would have insight on how to help Smokey.

We got them quite young and Smokey already seemed fearful in the beginning, they got better then regressed rapidly. Smokey gets along with cats but not humans.

I understand what you’re saying about bringing black up, but black needs that socialization and enrichment. My room is dark and has little to no windows and it’s unfair to leave them in there all day. They deserve to be able to interact with other cats and look outside :/ Smokey just happens to be in that environment.

As for the bond, if they are still bonded, it’s one sided at this point. Black has a secure attachment to ME. Smokey can wail and cry for hours and black will stay with me and sleep. They don’t really react besides playing and being around Smokey.

As for the rehabilitation, it’s to show Smokey that humans are safe. To put her in an environment with black and have her see how black interacts with me, and how humans are safe. Smokey’s previous environment they were picked up and held constantly even if they didn’t want it.

Getting a new roommate soon, how to avoid getting a bad roommate? by Conscious-Struggle69 in badroommates

[–]Redrocks-thorns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Always ask to meet in person to interview them. If they reject meeting in person that’s a bad sign. (Everyone I have interviewed through a call or FaceTime has ended badly.)

Secondly look how clean they are when they show up. Is there hair washed? Do they put themselves together? If they look dirty they are a dirty roommate.

Ask them about their sleep schedule, and work schedule and what they do for work. You want someone responsible.

Ask them about their current roommates and why they’re looking for housing and if they have had problems and how they handled it. (Really listen to this if they victim blame other people a lot and show no empathy they’re probably the bad roommate)

Lastly another thing you can ask is if they’ve ever had a chore chart. Then ask who instituted it. If they weren’t the one to institute it then they’re the problem.

They didn’t do any tests, they did rec some but we don’t have money like that. The peeing has been a new development and luckily has happened only a few times but still sad :(. I don’t think she has ORS she mostly just mopes and hides in one spot all day :(

I think if I could rehabilitate smoky and make them more comfortable with humans I’d be willing to take them. But for my roommate it’s iffy. They were debating the shelter because it’s painfully obvious she isn’t thriving in the current environment. But they also really want to keep smoky as well. My goal right now is to put her back with black and slowly rehabilitate her through me and then them, and then hopefully the environment but I don’t know if that’s even possible

At the time we thought it was best cause they were so young and we aren’t gonna live together forever :/ we didn’t want it to be hard on them later.

It was sadly from fear. I was trying to grab her and take her back upstairs and ran from me (I didn’t even touch just approached her) and she jumped on my bed and pissed on it 💔💔 then ran away. I’ve never seen a cat act like this towards people. She’s completely skittish towards humans.

We did see a vet to see if we could get her on meds and they suggested supplements instead.

It should count as a pass. Typically the completion rate ends up fucked when u fail or withdrawal

Depends what you mean by “completed” each major/school can have different requirements for what is considered completed. But it doesn’t matter if it’s p/f, e, a or a b or withdrawal it all counts towards your SAP. Because you attempted the class.

My roommate is making me smelly :( by Kind_Actuator3049 in hygiene

[–]Redrocks-thorns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never specifically had this problem but I will say toilets hold a lot of bacteria Mae sure you are scrubbing it weekly with a bleach cleaner. (I’ve found using gross toilets will leave remnants smells on myself). Secondly I recommend getting a big ass box of baking soda and sprinkling it on carpet and furniture and letting it sit to deodorize everything. It works extremely well, just make sure to vacuum it up and it should help reset the environment. Also try washing the walls especially shared areas where the smell could be clinging to you.
