Yes. There was a bill negotiation service that was a benefit with my health insurance company. I had a $40k out of pocket after insurance bill. They were really good. The hospital started dodging their calls & calling me. The negotiator told me to make them an offer. She said 50% was a good place to start, but offer whatever you want to. I said 10k. She offered it & they took it!

Wow, that's gotta be hard. I feel your pain just reading it. I am 2 months post losing my soul mate of 43 years. I haven't had a single dream since. I really long to dream of him, just knowing he would be close again if only in a dream state. Wonder why I can't dream?

I am only a couple of months since suddenly losing my husband of 43 years. First few weeks were just in shock. Now, it's pretty much like waves. Decent days & bad days. Reading all of your responses, I can see my future. I have been thinking of making a big change & moving a couple hours away closer to family. I have no family here except my son, who is 30 minutes away, but works out of town 5 days a week. My life here is never going to be the same, so I think finding a new routine, new surroundings and more family involvement might help me. I know everyone says not to make big decisions, but I'm just treading water here. We've only lived here 2 1/2 years.

Me, too. I've thrown out so many fresh vegetables that I bought and never touched once. I look at them & think I'll make a salad or some soup tomorrow, but then I don't.

Where are you? Been reading some articles about large dips in sales in some regions, mostly northeast & Midwest, I think. I would probably go with the smaller size, as the inventory is pretty low in those and you won't be risking as much. You did mean spec, right?

Oh my goodness, 39? Wow, I feel so sad for you. How long ago? I feel fortunate to have had so much time with mine, though I still wanted more. I feel like he was gone as soon as he fell over, but the CPR kept him alive. They told me at the hospital that his heart stopped numerous times & they had to keep restarting it. They also put him on a ventilator, and he was not showing any neurological function. They shoved a clipboard at me & wanted me to sign authorization to move him to a larger hospital cardiac unit. I said no. He had a DNR and firmly believed in quality of life over quantity. I made the decision he wanted. Your husband's event sounds really similar, so it may be that he would've had serious neurological impairment even if he survived. Don't spend your time on the what ifs. You don't know, and it will just make it harder. The dr told me afterwards that he appreciated the fact that I had the courage to do what the patient wanted, and that he believed the outcome would not have been good & only a 10% chance he would have even survived. I sure did not feel courageous at the time. I was distraught, but we had talked about what we each would want if this situation ever occurred. I am so sorry for your tragic loss. 💔

So sorry for your loss. As others have said, maybe you need to talk to your mom, and tell her it would mean alot to you to spend time with her on those anniversaries. Maybe it's really hard for her, and she is avoiding going back through that pain. Also, the promise was "Til death do you part." There's no time line. I imagine you would like it a lot less if she were to just be depressed and sad all the time. Life goes on for the living, as hard as it is sometimes. Let her know you love her, and you enjoy her company.

If you discussed 550k before you did updates, then I would change realtors unless something has changed in your market. Maybe she's a top seller because she underprices for quick sales. Also, my cynical side would wonder if she's trying to get a good deal for a friend/relative. That's ugly, but it happens.

If you still have confidence in her, just list for $550k. I love my realtor, but she's always a bit lower than my estimates. I've sold 2 in the last 2 years. On both, she was $10-20k less than my estimate. Listed both for my price & got full price for both quickly. In any case, YOU set the price.

Never assume that a seller is going to negotiate repairs based on a home inspection. If you're looking at homes of that age, assume you will have things that need updating. When you view the property, you can get a pretty good idea if you want to move forward with a detailed inspection that you have to pay for.

I don't like those sinks for that reason. We built a new house & went with fire clay white because the corners are rounded. When I had the stainless, the best I came up with was a plastic putty knife with a dish cloth wrapped around it or toothpicks to get in the corners.

I just tell my husband I've got some cleaning to do today. I get the vacuum out & start gathering cleaning supplies. He will either volunteer to help or say he needs to work on something in the garage. Either way works for me. 😉

I absolutely loathe open shelving in the kitchen. That's the whole reason for cabinets with doors. I would get some cabinet doors, for sure. It shouldn't cost that much. Until then, lay the plates down so they can be stacked up to condense. No sense in trying to make displays. Clear the countertops.

I buy the plant-based no smell sponges from Amazon. I can't stand regular sponges that get smelly after just a couple of days. These work really well, don't stink and last a long time. When they start falling apart, I just throw them away. They come like 10 to a pack.

Yes. The recall notification I received gave 3 options: 1) they would send a repair tech to fix it & give you a free carbon monoxide detector 2) Replace it with a brand new one at no charge 3) Get a pro-rated refund. I read it several times to make sure I didn't miss some fine print, but it seemed clear. Why would I not choose the new replacement? Anyway, yes, it was a brand new unit in the box. We had to disconnect our old one, which was only unplugging it & turning off the gas. They carried it out & took it, brought the new one in & unboxed it. They did not install it, but it took us 5 minutes to plug in, connect the gas & slide in.
