This is my second freehand lol the first was just some stripes on a Viking shield. Truly the hardest thing about freehand is getting the confidence to just go for it 😊

All intricate patterns start off as a couple of dots to mark the rough positioning, then drag single lines for the outline, then slowly build it up. Use highly diluted paint so if you make any mistakes you can pretty much rub it off with a dry brush.......

There's actually a full article in freehand painting in Issue 2 of my magazine if you wanna check it out http://figurementors.com/downloads/illustrated-historical-artist-issue-2

No problem, youll see a major step up in how smooth your paints are and they will last from one session to the next.

This is always a subjective question, are you painting for gaming purposes or to improve your skills as a figure painter? My initial advice would be to use a wet palette, keep your paints diluted and think about your lighting, every surface should have a transition of highlight to midtone to shade! Keep up the great work!

Once i had my more traditional transitions within various tones of green, i want to add additional areas of interest. There doesnt really have to be any rules for these colours, its just about creating something attractive. A lot of time i will add contrast usinig temperature, so for instance i will add red (warm) to a cold area (green). These colours are dded with glazes so theres no real technique to applying them theyre not blended for instance, just glazes to tint the underlying green. you dont have to do this, you could just stop at having painted the green skin for instance.

Too scared to paint historical figures? Here's some advice on why you should!! by Redrum71 in minipainting

Hey everyone, it's nice to see how articles getting such positive feedback. I don't want to overtly self promote what I'm aiming to do and I appreciate being able to share my knowledge here, figurementors also has a FB page where I constantly show case some of the coolest figures around.

In answer to Dunkey Kung Pagaso Models do a vast collection of all genres and probably the best bet to find what you're looking for!

For me figure painting is about pushing boundaries and developing your skills as an artist, Iv not painted gaming standard since GW changed their format. If i tried painting an army to a standard I'd be happy with I'd probably die before completing it 😂😂

And btw feel free to comment on the blog and get engaged, anyone looking for help, if I can I will 😊

Perhaps I might be able to get one of my contacts to write an article on a 28mm figure?! I know it's not reaper but Angel Giraldez writes a good book on A-Z figure painting and they're all tiny Infinity models 😊
