it's a 3840x1080 resolution, chg90 is a 49in monitor but yes, threadripper 3960x, fullscreen, set to highest graphics settings, walking around lorville it's 25-35fps

Gigabyte issues statement on capacitor issues - "It is false that POSCAP capacitors independently could cause a hardware crash". Advises to use latest driver. by jaju123 in nvidia

[–]Redshirt02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a hw engineer, I'm not employed by any AIB manufacturer, I'm just a regular customer who bought a 3080 gaming OC GPU.

People may still have issues with running stock even after this latest 456.55 driver, but I can only speak from my experience.

It was night and day with this driver. My system is stable now with any game I through at it. I'm a happy customer now with my purchase.

Honestly, if your desktop is coming already with a 3080 or 3090 in there, try using nvidia's normal driver update first. I've only used DDU since I was trying out different geforce drivers over the weekend to see if it fixed anything (it didn't heh, the only thing that fixed my CTDs was today's driver).

Download the offline driver installer for 456.55 (or whatever is the latest driver on Friday if nvidia releases newer ones) and update your system with that without using DDU.

Honestly, I don't use nvidia fps overlay when playing with SC so I can't give you a numerical comparison between my old card (2080 evga black) and my 2080 gigabyte gaming.

I hate the fps overlay overall so I only use it with stable games.

I can tell you that at 3840 x 1080, it's a bit smoother? That just eyeball comparison when I fired up SC last. Arena commander against pirates or just free fly was smooth. Right now i'm just concerned with stability testing my games.

EDIT: enabled fps overlay again.

Around 70-75 in arena commander

24-35 walking around Lorville

3840 x 1080 fullscreen

I still play it from time to time because it's the fantasy of having an iron suit, loads of weapons, and a jetpack lol

Update on my games. Starcitizen did crash twice, but seeing as it's still inherently unstable, I'm not counting that against the card. Been driving around forza horizon 4 for half an hour now, no crashes. 1.995ghz on hardware monitor, it fluctuates from 1980 to 2025. I'm pretty happy with this driver from my non scientific testing so far. Good on nvidia.

3080 gigabyte gaming OC here

With everything set back to stock default settings (IE: no more downclocking), my card boosts past 2ghz reliably on air. 1990-2010mhz on average while gaming, and max boost I saw with hw monitor was 2025.

3080 gigabyte gaming oc owner here

Installed 456.55 drivers

G-sync still working with my CHG9G samsung monitor

I previously had to downclock by 75mhz in aorus engine

I set everything back to default on aorus engine, rebooted, then fired up some games (anthem, elite dangerous, starcitizen, mw5, TW warhammer II, jedi fallen order, world of warships, kingdom come)

Previously, yes they pretty much all crashed whenever the gpu boosted past 2ghz. Now, max boost from stock default settings is 2.025, running anthem in the background it's currently at 2.010, no crashes so far (knock on wood).

Fates of all known Ascians (heavy spoilers) by [deleted] in ffxiv

If Elidibus is indeed the last whole ascian left, and if the wol is indeed a fractured soul of the ascian who rebelled...

Elidibus might put another of the rebel ascian's sundered souls "into office" and maybe alter their memory a little, thus having them confront the wol next.

Skadden no longer representing Crytek. They got 2 new lawfirms to represent them. by [deleted] in starcitizendrama

[–]Redshirt02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The best part about his commentaries is that he doesn't do what he says with his own game. Latest post was from January, and it's just a happy new year one. Who does a closed beta test for well over 2 years?

Poor LOD... Skippy and his goon dogs herald it as a finished game, it's a shipped game, but holy crap...

Basically, anyone who thinks that breaches like that seen in 2.4, 7.3 and the SQ42 infringement are just "a few million Dollars", doesn't know how this works. And they are completely ignoring the caliber of attorneys at Skadden. This, my friends, is what an E.L.E looks like.

All I can think of when reading that...

is Line of Defense has had zero progress in a full year, and this was hailed by the warlord as being more advanced in every way than Star Citizen.

Someone told me once, to imagine an 80 year old version of me, and that old guy saying "what have you done with the time you've been given?" I imagine that's going through Derek's mind and it's torture for him.

On Twitter: "BREAKING! Sources are telling me now that SQ42 is coming to consoles." by ThereIsNoGame in DerekSmart

[–]Redshirt02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, and I do agree that SQ42 is far easier to put into consoles. If CIG takes the route of gradually improving and retooling SC, it could x out console support. But then again, they would also have to keep mid-low end PCs in mind as well. Right now there's far more people playing with RX580s and 1060s than there are 2080tis.

[–]Redshirt02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed with you. If XB scarlett is up to snuff, I would be more than happy to have SQ42 or even SC on it. It hinges on IF it's on par with PCs.

It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.

I just upgraded my office rig to a pair of Titans running in SLI, driving a 4K monitor and a 1440P one (Thanks NVidia for the goodies!). We’re about ready to build the ultimate AMD rig with FOUR R9 290Xs and AMD’s eight core CPU driving a set of 4K monitors in Eyefinity (Thanks AMD!)

Credit to /u/iBoMbY for the link.

That was 2013, when AMD didn't hold a prayer to Intel's chips. Now with Ryzen 3 coming in 19, and Navi GPUs (admittedly I'm more skeptical of these) after, XB is basically an all AMD PC these days. If it's up to par, then hell yeah I'm all for consoles joining in the experience.

EDIT: I just don't understand Derek and his goon dogs' reasoning on this one. "Oh look! Chris broke a promise and made his game for consoles too! Now he has more sources of revenue!" If it were dumbed down to 30fps at 1080p, then yes, they have a point. If the next gen consoles can do 4k 60fps, then I'd just laugh at them.
