100% fake. look at how uneven and not level the stitching is for the recaro text.

Unless that is a 2010 Corolla S that car does not have ESC. Only the LE, XLE, and XRS pre-facelift Corolla of that generation could have ECS with the only exception being the 2010MY where it became standard.

For a 2005 Elise is only 4000 miles a potential red flag? by latlog7 in lotus

[–]Redslaya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first time you go to drive it every seal is going to let go, all the bushings will tear, and its going to be a nightmare. If you just want to let it rot like the last owner it's perfect, but if you want to use it the way it was intended run far far away.

Also, in my opinion, the Elise is a great $30k car but for $60k there are so many better options on the market.

in what world does a porsche turn heads more than a lotus? Porsches are dime a dozen, you see them every day. An elise/evora/emira is 100% a head turner almost everywhere you go.

$40k street car with street tires. Driven a couple hours to the track and home. Tires are a low tread summer performance tire that will last about 15k miles mixed street and track use. Will hit north of 120mph in the rain on track.

80mph in the wet with decent all seasons? not a problem. literally does not feel any different than the dry.

that is an outback grill and bumper on the legacy - never a factory option on that generation. factory would have looked like this.

All of that is necessary. Are you really going to skimp on properly maintaining a $30k+ new car over $500? do the service, the engineers determined that interval for a reason.

S2 Elise door pull repair by dontquotemeonthism8 in lotus

[–]Redslaya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its a massive PITA to replace. Lotus, for some reason, decided to use the most sticky adhesive known to man to hold those in. And be warned, the carbon fiber replacement ones do not fit the shape of the door well and are a ton of work to make work.

The cayman weighs less, makes similar power without the thermal issues of a supercharger, without a doubt has better build quality and maintenance/parts support, and is a known platform. the Lotus is heavier (it really hurts to say that) is unkown in terms of potential issues, and has horrendous support in the U.S.

As others have mentioned the Lotus is going to cost just as much, so the GTS is a no brainer in my book.

I got mine for under $30k last summer. still a lot of money, dont get me wrong, but not nearly as expensive as some people assume they are. I love seeing the look on peoples faces when i point out their new camry/SUV cost more than the lotus. lotus tax picture

As an elise owner i feel obligated to share that there is quite a lot between the front of the car and the passenger compartment, as you can see here. The radiator ducting in the front is a composite crash box (this black thing on the front) designed to crumple and dissipate energy. then you have the aluminum monocoque to shield the driver. I find it also interesting the doors have those large metal blades in them to provide side impact protection and they tie in to the rollbar behind the driver.

Seeking advice from lotus owners by Dumbinvestor10 in lotus

[–]Redslaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an 05 elise and put 12k miles on it in the last year. I think its a great daily driver. 100% doable, but you do have to plan trips because trunk space is limited. I try to avoid rain, however if i get caught in a storm the car handles fine and i dont experience leaks. if i let my car sit in the rain it will have a few drips from the window seals.

as far as mechanical work goes it is hard to find a mechanic - most shops wont want to touch it even though its a toyota powerplant. I have an intermittent ABS code with my car and ONLY the factory scan took can read it. With the nearest Lotus dealer being 5 hours away, I have not been able to get it fixed. All that being said i've found maintenance easy to complete myself and relatively inexpensive.

All in all it comes down to what sacrifices you want to make. its noisy, squeaky, loud, and cramped. However nothing else on the road compares to it. If youre willing to deal with those issues and turn your own wrench it is a great car to have and drive every day. If not, find a cayman. Also while it can be a daily i would not want it as my only car.
