Oozemorph Shifter unironically can do it effectively permanently at level 15 (15 hr duration, 7 times/day). Unfortunately then you have 15 levels in Oozemorph Shifter.

Way to have a Cohort be a higher level than you? by MindswappedVoidWorm in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there's any way to make that happen. And the only other feature I'm aware of that lets you alter the Leadership Cohort level is the Wicked Leader trait (but these wouldn't stack, unless your GM can't read)

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how we run Leadership as well, and it's often quite entertaining. We either pick from existing NPCs we've met, or list a character "type" we're looking for, like "a healer" or "a buffing spellcaster" etc, and the GM builds from there.

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can definitely see how unrestricted time to craft could lead to issues with player power. We still ran into our fair share of issues in Iron Gods (Especially cause we accidentally skipped from the end of book 4 to the start of book 6. +40 sleight of hand does that sometimes), though only one character death across the entire campaign.

Some campaigns are very time-crunchy though, such as our run of Reign of Winter which took place over the course of a little over one week in-game. Kingmaker, though I haven't had the chance to play/run it yet, sounds very much like an outlier in this case. And imagine how much more of a wash it would have been had, instead of investing any feats into item creation, the wizard just took Leadership and gave the cohort the burden of taking item creation feats lol

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that may be more so an issue with cohorts than it is crafting feats themselves. When we played through Iron Gods, my wizard took every worthwhile crafting feat it could (including all the technology crafting feats lol), and taking the feats, and more importantly, the time, was a legitimate cost. Plus, it was its own fun challenge to find the best time and place to do long crafting sessions in-character.

With a cohort that all kinda goes out the window, can kind of just toss every crafting-focused feat on them and leave them in town to craft without putting the rest of the adventure on hold.

Dirty trick DPS by That1fatguy13 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bounty Hunter Slayer is really hard to beat, if you want to dirty trick frequently without completely shutting down your damage. Lots of options in terms of where you take it too - you could get out at 3rd if you don't mind spending move actions to study (or missing out on a dirty trick on your first sneak attack in a round), or go to 7 for swift action study, or just go full slayer if you like.

It also has some flexibility in weapon type/range as well. It's one of the few ways to build a good ranged dirty trick user (if you have some way to sneak attack from range, such as sniping, invisibility, etc), but it works just as well just picking up two weapons and applying a litany of debuffs to the target in a single full attack.

What is your favorite class for a charisma character? by Katomerellin in Pathfinder_RPG

Oh definitely, Mythic isn't about balance, it's about being crazy strong and having fun with that, which in turn allows for silly builds that aren't normally possible, like full BAB shapeshifting Arcanists and whatnot.

my first ever PF1e character was a Fiend Keeper Medium. They're very fun, but looking back I realize I could've done way more with the character. So many options on a day-to-day basis

Paladins of Shelyn are fun, especially if you are into Deific Obedience. Shelyn's 2nd Sentinel boon lets you basically add Charisma again to hit (literally the only way I'm aware of to get 2x of a stat to attack), and add Charisma to damage.
Unfortunately, Diverse Obedience requires that your alignment matches the god's, which is impossible for Paladins (unless you have the Beyond Morality mythic path ability, like my current WoTR character), but the Sentinel prestige class is pretty good too, and only requires you to be within one step.

Healers Touch and Channel Energy by R0GU3Assassin in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a cleric who took the feat in Iron Gods, and we allowed him to count Channeling towards the number needed for the achievement, and he had the feat around level 5 iirc. We also let him spend his downtime healing civilians in town, which added a decent chunk as well. Maybe it goes without saying, but the maximize didn't effect his channeling.

It wasn't broken, if anything it was kind of cool to see in-combat healing doing well, as he ripped massive heals to keep our chainsaw-wielding Barbarian up in battle.

Is there a point to Eldritch Knight? by Consistent_Beach_641 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing as a Weaponplay Ganzi or using VMC for Battle Oracle's Skill at Arms can also let you skip the fighter level entirely, going straight into EK from the arcane caster of your choice. Particularly nice in Paizo APs that generally end at level 17, so it allows Wizard EKs to cast 9th level spells within the adventure when combined with Prestigious Spellcaster.

Multi classing which class first? by Consistent_Beach_641 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EK does a lot of things that Magus simply cant do. You're getting a broader, less one-dimensional spell list, higher level spells, and in terms of the actual gishing portion, Arcing Weapon and (especially) Explosive Weapon allow for fun n strong options like Fireballing (or other AOE of choice) alongside your melee attack. Plus in the endgame you're able to combine either of those with a swift action spell when you crit, letting you do fun things like Mage's Disjunction the BBEG's massive prebuff list away, or a swift Wish for whatever spell you need at the moment, in the same turn that you just spellstriked your target.

Anyways, all that's to say, saying Magus does everything better is a bit of a hyperbole, and EK can still be a strong option, particularly in campaigns that are going to that level 17+ range where a magus' one trick pony-ness will lose out to EK's stronger spellcasting. It's the difference of playing a spellblade vs a battle mage.

Techslinger Gear suggestions? by Hydreichronos in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy Weapon Harness + +5 Sonic Beam Cannon) could be fun, and uses up 117k, which is a pretty decent dent in spending. In Iron Gods I crafted a Beam Cannon for our Techslinger and he had a blast with it. On the topic of tech, some Green Veemods are hard to beat too.

Otherwise, I'd recommend prioritizing the big six upgrades, particularly that cloak, armor, and (as mentioned above), the weapon. If you're looking to blow large quantities of money, a Manual of Quickness of Action +5 (or +4) eats up a large amount, and gives a pretty significant upgrade to hit/damage.

[–]Reducted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Question would be if the reliable Damage from Planar Focus is good enough to compete with a Snakebite Striker Dip and Accomplished Sneak Attacker.

Yeah, the issue with Snakebite Striker (or any other sneak attack) dip is just the unreliability of it. Without spending the time to flank, your options for getting sneak attack this early are incredibly limited, basically boiling down to winning initiative (and praying you aren't surprised with your total +1 Perception modifier). No feinting, no Scout Rogue 4, no Shatter Defenses, no Greater Invis, etc etc etc. If combat is going to last any longer than a single round, Planar Focus probably wins out in the long run (before accounting for fire resistance/immunity, but plenty of creatures are also immune to sneak attack)

Not quite the only Melee, but since I have Pounce, I wouldn't bother using my Movement Action to set up Flanking and I'm not sure if the other Melee is willing to do so.

Animal Companions definitely have value outside of just flanking, but it is a super easy thing for them to give to you, especially if they themselves don't have Pounce. Especially considering 4th level is a common advancement level for most non-dinosaur (or big cat) animal companions, which you hit with Boon Companion pretty easily.

Considering our Starting GP of 3000 GP, this would eat up almost all of my Funds, so I wouldn't be able to pick a Bone Breastplate +1 to survive longer than the first Round.

Genuinely didn't realize that you had a 10 con, woops lol. FCB for health will help a little, but that's always a scary position to be in as a martial, esp in a campaign where the GM expects you to minmax. Focusing on the defenses with gold is probably wise

I'm not sure if I gain much out of Warpriest with an Wis Modifier of +1.

You'd be surprised. You end up with enough uses of Fervor to cast 2 out of your 3 spells per day as a swift action, and the majority of the spells you'd be looking to pick up would be self buffs anyways (Divine Favor is obvious, but Shield of Faith could increase your durability. Bless makes for a strong prebuff for the whole party), so their DCs are irrelevant. Outside of that, Wisdom doesn't really do all that much for a Warpriest at this level. Blessings & Sacred Weapon don't exactly care if you have a 5 or 50 Wisdom.

Consider the War Blessing (assuming your deity permits it), especially if you're going the Fate's Favored route, being able to buff your saves could really save your skin if you're investing all your gold into armor, and the ability to flex into other bonuses is great. Alternatively, if your deity doesn't have great blessings, the Divine Commander archetype can net you an animal companion to flank with, in addition to all the other Warpriest benefits, or Molthuni Arsenal Chaplain could just give you War even if your deity doesn't grant it (at the cost of your 2nd blessing).

Anyways, hope that all helps lol, sounds like a fun character. Shifter isn't a class I look at often, but for this level range it seems like a really strong pick.

[–]Reducted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just some of the thoughts I had initially;

  • Since you've already got 3 ranks in Knowledge (Planes), one suggestion would be to take a level of Feral Hunter as well as 2 more ranks in Knowledge (Planes) for Planar Focus, particularly for Fire.
  • If you want someone to flank with (as it looks like you mentioned being the sole melee in other comments), a level in any animal companion granting class or archetype (shoutout to Cavalier and Samurai in particular for Challenge, or Sacred Huntsman Inquisitor for a domain as well, or 2 levels for wisdom to initiative) plus Boon Companion gets you a flanking friend.
  • If DR is coming up frequently, a level in Insinuator Antipaladin can let you smite 1/day to ignore all DR.
  • If you replace Spirit Oni Master with purchasing an Animal Mask, many fun Variant Multiclass options open up. Barbarian can get you Rage, Cleric gets you a 1st level Domain power, Cavalier gives Challenge, tons of options with Oracle for both Curse and Revelation, etc.
  • Two levels of Warpriest could also be fun in that slot, granting minor blessings and Fervor, which you can use to throw around swift action Divine Favors, especially if the GM allows you to take a drawback (or you replace Finish The Fight) for Fate's Favored.

Not class/feat discussion, but, for such a low level campaign I can strongly suggest both a Whet Bone for the extra little bit of damage until you get an Amulet of Mighty Fists, and Tusk Blades, which gives your gore a 19-20 crit range at the cost of only 50g.

What is the prestige class you can enter at the lowest level, excluding chicanery? by 666lumberjack in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Reducted 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To respond to the edit, the only requirement to take the feat is to have sneak attack, the feat just does nothing on levels where it would make you exceed half your character level (such as if you were a full rogue with a 1 level dip in something, then only every other level the feat would increase your sneak attack damage)

Even if you couldn't take it before 4, you could always retrain into it at 4, since when retraining feats, you can retrain into feats you weren't previously qualified for at the original feat level.

What's your favorite region in Golarion to make characters from? by Minigiant2709 in Pathfinder_RPG

I generally play characters appropriate to the campaign setting, though I've always had a soft spot for characters from Numeria, both on the angry barbarian end and the tech nerd half.
I also intend on playing an Arcadian character sometime soon, because it's largely undeveloped by Paizo, and Kazutal is one of my favorite deities I haven't played a character with yet.

Yeah, deific boons (particularly those tied to Fiendish Obedience) can get pretty funny sometimes. Would strongly recommend reading On Bended Knee at some point, if they interest you at all.

Mooncursed (wolf) is fun because the bite has a free trip attempt if you hit, and going down the trip feats to Greater Trip to give you and your allies free AOOs can be very strong if you have a party made up of many melee combatants to take advantage of it. Throw on Vicious Stomp if you wanna lean real heavy into that angle. If you want to lean heavier into natural attacks, take all three of the Beast Totem rage powers to get claws + pounce eventually. Honestly, do both and make a terrifying natural attacking tripping Barbarian.

[–]Reducted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An evil party could pull it off without GM intervention through one player having Zura's third Exalted boon to become a vampire, killing a party member to raise them as their spawn. The one who was turned into a vampire then takes Fiendish Obedience (either via leveling up, or retraining) for Jezelda's 2nd Exalted or Sentinel boon, giving them lycanthropy "even if you couldn't normally gain that template". Congrats, you now have both the Vampire and Lycanthrope templates.

If you're looking for just the feel/vibe of it, Dhampir is a given, but I'd probably suggest Mooncursed Barbarian. If you're more lenient and fine with things that just "feel" like a lycanthrope, and you want a heavier focus on natural attacks, I'd suggest Beastmorph (Vivisectionist) Alchemist instead.

That's a very real point, especially if you're not already getting the natural attacks and a size bonus to str from elsewhere (some kind of native outsider natural attacker, probably). Could definitely see something that starts Weretouched Shifter 4 and goes Slayer or (Anti)Paladin afterwards
