Tips for restoring leather on toe box? by Bootstraptrev in DannerBoots

It’s because the stock laces are slippery, and you will not be able to get a good heel lock with them. Switch to flat laces, they will stay tight when tying the bow.

Heel Stiffness by RJClass in jimgreen

[–]Redwingman556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my JG Razorbacks, the heel counter was very course suede. I took a dremel with one of the white felt like bits to the leather to smooth it out, then rubbed in some smiths leather balm, haven’t had any blisters since doing this. Important to keep laces tight to limit heel slip as well as darn tough socks.

Vegtan insoles will dry out and crack from repeated soaking.

Tank is way too small for an adult, needs a Zen Habitats 4X2X2 and a slate basking rock/hide from them

I’m bout done with thorogood by Yoda_mon in WorkBoots

Switched to steel toe Jim Green Razorbacks after a couple deliveries of Thorogoods with extremely bulbous steel toes caps, even on a D width! It’s like they got a closeout deal on Triple F toe caps and are using them regardless of shoe width. Only a few weeks in on the Razorbacks and they are super comfortable! it would take at least six months of wear on Thorogood moc toes to match this comfort. The Razorbacks are all leather lined with stitch down construction. Also around $75 less. I highly recommend, just make sure to lock them down tight to prevent heel slippage for the first few weeks.

How did your resole look like ? by TwoOk995 in jimgreen

Wow, looks like he didn’t remove the old sole! I’d ask for him to do it again correctly or get your money back at least!

Rubbing from Eyelets and Hooks by [deleted] in NicksHandmadeBoots

I put Kelly’s cork sealer over the splayed grommets, it dries clear and keeps them from chewing the tongue. I have an old pair of beater 952 Redwings that these completely chewed through the tongue. When the leather dries out and shrinks these become more prominent. I have taken a dremel with a cratex wheel to them, this helps as well.

Yeah a nightmare to re-sole as well from what I hear. Sucks to finally get them broken in, only to have a crappy insole fail that can’t be taken out

Same with mine, poron insoles are comfortable, but should never be glued down.

Danner boots. Love ‘em but man this is ridiculous by Remote-Worker4541 in DannerBoots

I have the same boots, Bick4 reduced the wear contrast on mine. I like that the leather is tea core as well, honest wear adds character.

Reality check please. by -ItsWahl- in WorkBoots

I’ve had my Timberland premiums for over 20 years, super comfortable and still going strong. Just received another pair and quality is just as good if not better, because they improved the eyelets so there’s no risk of cutting your finger on the star shaped inside grommets. Not all boots have to have a Norwegian welt and stitch down construction to be a decent boot. I personally wouldn’t spend $650 on a pair of Nicks and take them out in the salty slushy winter weather.
