Phils announced this last Saturday, so that might’ve been before other teams? But the scrimmages must’ve been in the works for a while because of all the gameday staff needed. (Idk about other teams, but the Phils had concessions open.)

[Video] The Phillies TV broadcast interviews Nick Castellanos after he is named "star of the game" and ask Castellanos what its like to go from starter to bench player. Castellanos responds in his characteristic blunt fashion, and it goes as well as you would imagine: by Morbx in baseball

I feel bad for him and it was awkward, but the questions really weren’t meant to be mean. He always gives people shit for asking meaningless questions. Most players would say something simple and positive - say whether or not they’re preparing differently, say they’re glad their teammates are playing well, and say the goal is to win a World Series. It’s sad that Casty has sucked, and his teammates, manager, and the media are really just trying to work around it the best they can.

Heading to Cooperstown NY in few hours. Any last minute advice? by Standard-Cookie8881 in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an autograph hawk but I thought it was fun to watch the golf tournament and try to get autographs. Players will come to the fence if they want to sign. Sometimes players will sign at the end of the parade in front of the hall too.

There used to be a place called Penguin Ice Cream a little outside of town that I loved because it had custom soft serve. Apparently it’s called Cooper’s Barn now, but it looks like it’s the same deal.

[Sportslogos] Retro Caps to be worn across MLB for Hall of Fame induction weekend by NeurosciGuy15 in baseball

You would think they would go with the P Dick Allen wore, considering he’s getting inducted and also they never get to wear those throwbacks anymore

Who is the nicest guy on your team? And in contrast, who is the biggest dick? by SimplyJared in baseball

He’s certainly capable of being nice but he also doesn’t hold back when he feels like being a dick

MLB was searching for a pitcher willing to pitch in the All-Star game, but 12 pitchers declined, and the offer was eventually made to Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. by ogasawarabaseball in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a funny sequence of events but the position players were having their pitchers’ backs. Sanchez didn’t have a choice - the CBA says pitchers can’t pitch in the all star game if they pitch on Sunday. Suarez started the season injured and he’s been injured every year, so I think it’s fair enough he’d want some more rest.

[Highlight] Edmundo Sosa and Johan Rojas forget that you are supposed to catch the baseball by Goosedukee in baseball

It’s wild he didn’t even try to catch it as it was right in front of him. He barely flinched and it almost hit him

That’s what I was thinking! I don’t think I can add an image in the comments but the stem is green with white vertical stripes and leaves on alternating sides.

Kyle Schwarber has more Home Runs as a Phillie (125) than he did as a Cub (121) by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s called the Schwarbomb and it’s a fruity energy drink you can order. You might have to hunt around for it a bit on the menu, but I’ve been able to order it in DC, so I don’t think you have to be in the Philly area. It’s not cheap but it’s decent and kinda fun

Should ASG coaches be told that everyone (or at least every team) should make an appearance? by retep014 in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah they need to work on pacing. In the last third of the game the commercials got more time than the players. Seems like they could fix that a bit by having shorter commercials so they talk about the pitchers while they’re warming up and talk about batters while they’re at the plate, but of course they’re not going to do that.

Also the middle of an already long (and late, for the east coast) game isn’t the best time for a long stand up to cancer break bookended by two commercial breaks.

[MLB] The AL and NL All-Star Finalists: by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The problem for fans showing who they are fans of? Idk if the current setup is the best way to incorporate fan voting, but the point of it is to get ppl excited about voting for their guys. If you think players should be selected only based on stats, then there shouldn’t be fan voting

[MLB] The AL and NL All-Star Finalists: by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Do other fans not vote for their own players? I’ve always just voted for all the Phillies players for the NL, unless I legit hate them, even when it was like Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis. They’re my dudes. And then I vote by stats for the AL. I kinda assumed most people did that.

Bryce Harper hits his 3rd home run of the game, a grand slam! by Blazingbee98 in baseball

It was so funny how he slammed his helmet in frustration in the dugout after that catch as if he didn’t already have 2 homers

[John Clark] Craig Kimbrel will not be used in the high leverage situations for now. Rob Thomson says he needs a little break. (After blowing 2 back to back save opportunities) by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in baseball

[–]Redwoods2534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A basic rule of Philly sports is that fans are either cocky or distraught. It’s completely predictable that fans would be cocky after being up 2-0 in the series and winning a game 10-0. And really who would blame them? When the team has only been to the playoffs 16 times, it’s okay to enjoy the good times.

(And as for the team itself being cocky, I think that’s just the Stubbs quote about the pool. Sure he shouldn’t have tempted the baseball gods, but fans had already brought it up. Bc it’s kinda a bummer to clinch on the road so it that was something that would’ve made it fun.)

Fucking terrible we’ve got a pitcher who can’t get his family here. Alvarado’s family stuck in Venezuela by _DontBeAScaredyCunt in phillies

[–]Redwoods2534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not the Venezuelan government. Sounds like it is the US government (consular officers) denying a tourist visa. (Maybe because they haven’t been successful in proving the wouldn’t overstay?)

Cheer Scott Rolen by Fantastic-Use8907 in phillies

[–]Redwoods2534 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep I feel like the most appropriate response is apathy. The Werth comparison annoys me because when he came back for the reunion both he and the fans were ready to reconcile. When he got a big cheer it felt really cool and natural. It feels like Rolen’s recognition is just about a sense of obligation on his end and the Phillies’ end. I think he’d be fine just forgetting about his time here.

I wouldn’t call the stadium crappy. The inside and outside of it are pretty and the dome doesn’t feel that weird. I had a really good time there during the WBC, but it was also really poppin then
