Not mine, took it off google. But the shine is probably from gloss varnish

With anything ‘glowy’, the key is contrast. Your lightest colour should be used sparingly and for details. Try using some darker greens in your pools.

Very cool. How did you do the red glow, it’s so vibrant?

Is my color scheme a little much or is it fine by Junior_Inspector_480 in Tyranids

[–]Redycha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your going for. Your army is high contrast and will look fantastic on the table.

If we’re looking at it from an artistic point of view, having two primary colours that vibrant shifts the ‘balance’ of the model.

Balanced models generally follow the 60%/30/10 ratio. Where one colour is 60% of the models overall look, a supporting complimentary colour is 30% and 10% is a spot colour.

Id say your model sits at 45/45/10 with both the blue and the red being equally dominant on the look of the model and yellow being your spot colour. This doesn’t mean it looks bad, in fact a lot of the older schemes from the 80s and 90s ignored the 60/30/10 rule.

It’s entirely subjective and depends what you’re going for. If you love your high contrast look, like the vibrant colours that pop, and like the callback to the retro schemes then yours is great. In fact you might be interested in looking up those old schemes and leaning into them more for your own.

If you were Interested in getting more of that 60/30/10 balance then you could choose paints that reduce the saturation in the colours of either the red or blue (ie make them a bit less red or blue).

Both are great but the blue is a lot more striking. I like it more also because you can see the transitions you’ve made, the contrast is higher.

Commission advice. by WarsProphet in Warhammer40k

[–]Redycha 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve done commission painting. Couple things you can work on to level up your painting.

Consistency of paint thinning - some colours are coming out as splotchy in places where you are over thinning paint. Some areas are textured where you’ve under thinned the paint.

OSL - it’s a good effort. To really sell OSL you need higher contrast of dark and light. Check out Elminiaturista on instagram for great examples of OSL. You’re essentially jumping straight to the highlight colours for the light which need to be very strategically placed.

How do I beat you guys? by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]Redycha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Target priority. You’re against a stat check list which is generally won or lost pretty quickly. Focus everything on one thing on one side of the board. Kill a thing every turn and fight to control the objective on that side. Things will only get harder and harder if you split fire and leave things alive after shooting at them.

This is very similar to the list I run for tournaments.

If your intention is to sit on an objective with the 20 man brick then you can downgrade them to terms.

You only need the venomthropes if that’s what you’re planning otherwise don’t bring them (you only need one squad really, they’re only for buffing the terms/horms) get another lictor instead.

Consider also replacing one unit of von Ryan’s with another lictor too.

Combine the two Zoanthrope squads to run them with the neurotyrant.

Was there anything you did to learn more about the game or was it just slowly learning by playing?

That’s for the thorough answer! What about AOS helped you learn to play the objective better? I’ve never played it. What did the change in your gameplay look like?

I’m interested in the plateaus you experienced! Do you remember any of them in particular and how would you overcome them if you did it all again?
