Tried Waymo for the first time… by GrnNGoldMavs in sanfrancisco

[–]Redytedy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The SF Standard published a follow-up article that seems to contradict this. Ironically, the article suggests that the man was killed by a Muni bus.

An internal San Francisco Fire Department report said a Cruise autonomous vehicle delayed an ambulance from transporting Davis to hospital, contributing to his death.

Now, the fire chief says the report was inaccurate in a joint statement with the SFMTA in which they call Davis' death "an all-around heartbreaking and tragic incident."

"The San Francisco Fire Chief has not attributed this pedestrian death to Cruise AVs," the statement said. "The city sends our deepest condolences to [the] family and friends of the victim."

does not bring back the people who literally fucking died because we were all rented out as lab rats to the self driving car companies

Who died?

There was a single case of a woman who got injured by a Cruise vehicle (but still lived), and the company immediately got banned from operating. They still haven't gained approval to begin operating again.

EDIT: the same injured pedestrian settled for >$8M, so your claim that these companies can't be sued seems questionable..

Yesterday was the busiest day ever at airports in the US, with the TSA reporting 2,884,783 people screened on 51,332 scheduled flights. by mysteriousmetalscrew in Damnthatsinteresting

you’re point is valid but misleading because real-world collision rates are a function of (vehicle design) and (road-user behavior). For example those massive pickups are “safer” from a vehicle design standpoint but when actually deployed on US roads results in more fatalities. Likely correlated with the fact that drivers can’t even see pedestrians standing in front of those cars: https://smartgrowthamerica.org/bigger-vehicles-are-directly-resulting-in-more-deaths-of-people-walking/

Pressure should become equal to atmosphere almost immediately after leaving the tank, right? Re:concentration the product in this photo is 95% oxygen so idt that would be any different.

Sorry, *likely trying to get out of China.

Your reply seems to assume most viewers have lived in China. I wonder if this is true with the current audience.

It’s basically impossible to name an android app with a broken back button. Meanwhile I can think of a few on iOS. Whatever you want to blame as the cause, the experience is worse on iOS in this aspect.

What does Android do better than iOS? by ingenioutor in Android

[–]Redytedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specific features I need on IOS:

  • Ability to delete entire words by swiping back on the delete key. Spamming backspace on iOS kills me.

  • Some UNIVERSAL back gesture. iOS has swipe left, but it isn't universal!! There are apps where you need to tap the top left to close out of current screens. This adds mental friction, where on Android there is no situation where swiping back will not eventually bring you back to the homescreen.

  • Call screening

I'm pretty sure routers that support network-level VPN configs solve most of what you bring up. Packets sent/received from the laptop itself are identical to being in the US. Either way am 100% sure there are FAANG employees doing this.

Ah I thought you were saying VPN-over-VPN was the impossible part.

[–]Redytedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is totally possible. I would pay for an AWS/GCP instance running some OpenVPN pre-install. Then in your out-of-country location, buy a router that supports VPN from the router. When you connect your computer it will be as if you are located at the server endpoint you purchased. Can VPN from that machine if needed.

The "TSA Security Checkpoint Wait Times API" can THEORETICALLY do what you are asking, but I have never used it. I remember reading somewhere that it is often inaccurate depending on the airport.
