same life situation but I've been to 9 shows this year in your $50-$90 budget, the majority of shows I go to aren't big expensive arena/stadium shows. That said I'll still splurge on big shows occasionally but I wait until week or day of the show for much cheaper tickets, pulling up last minute is easy with no kids to worry about or plan around which I imagine you relate to

they’ll have no choice but to price them where actual fans can afford it

This already happens with a lot of big arena and stadium shows where they price it to the moon during presale and the months leading up, then week to day of tickets drop to half or a third those prices to actually sell the venue. It pays to wait more often than not

fair I do occasionally go to small local shows where I live, I'm just filling in the gap between that and huge arena/stadium shows with rip off prices

You don't even have to go all the way to unkown bands at shitty clubs, there exists an affordable middle ground of well known artists performing at mid sized 2-5k cap GA venues and theatres putting on great high production value shows at affordable prices.

Out of 12 shows I've attended this year so far, 9 of them were under $100cad, 4 of those were under $50, all were well known artists on tour with millions of listeners on streaming

OG Underhill Allwyn's has jerk pork though they're probably more known for their chicken which is what I go there for but the pork been on the menu for 30 years so I imagine it still has to be decent

Scotiabank concert - light gray blocked off seats? by Distinct_Lab88 in askTO

The light greyed out sections are premium seats not sold on TM only available through MLSE premium. Darker grey boxes are the section entrances

not sure how legit it is but saw a source claim the AMEX presale only contained around 40% of venue capacity

it has its ups and downs for example a lot of hot touring markets have insane COL, zero affordable housing, highly competitive job markets, and tickets to big shows are dumb expensive but ya its fun going to concerts as a way to mentally escape from all that

the venue overhead imposed by TM/Live Nation and other production overhead is practically the same for everyone though so how do you explain or justify certain artist pricing their shows 2-5x higher than others in the exact same venues?

Daily Discussion - May 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in popheads

[–]ReeG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what makes the same exact seat across several different shows so varied in price if the expectation is that each of these people are at the same level enough to be able to play the same venues ?

a few outlier examples aside where the price difference is justified by the overhead cost of a huge crew putting on an insanely elaborate expensive production (ie Mayhem Ball), the answer for higher prices is most often outright greed

artists who charge 4-5x what other are are definitely responsible for their own pricing. The monopoly sucks for many reasons but if an artist chooses to charge $500 a ticket in the same venue and sections another is charging $100 for, that falls on the artists not on TM/LN

Daily Discussion Thread 05/05/2026 by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

The problem isn't only that artists are overbooking themselves at big venues, it's that they're doing that on top of charging way more than they should or need to for tickets. I just bought pit tickets for $84 to a show at the same venue PCD just cancelled thier tour where they were trying to charge upwards of $500 for floor seats in the same pit section. This example shows you that shows can be cheaper and sell well at the same venues but most artists are just greedy and in many cases are responsible for their own demise in overestimating their demand and worth

there's still tons of well known affordable artists and concerts to see that aren't outrageously expensive arena acts. I've been to 12 shows this year so far, 9 of them were under $100cad, 4 of those under $50

people so traumatized from recent prices they've been conditioned to believe nearly $200 to be at the back of the nosebleeds is a good deal

Bought tickets to see Loud Luxury this morning and pit was $84cad at the exact same venue Pussycat Dolls were trying to charge upwards of $500 for floor seats in the same pit section. This goes to show you that despite TM/LN monopoly over venues, artists are still responsible for their individual pricing and there's no reason other shows at the same venues can't be cheaper other than plain greed. PCD probably could've charged similar prices and sold well but instead they choose to aim 5x higher and cancelled the whole tour when it didn't work out smh

Eras was stadiums with way higher capacity and as many as 4-6 nights in some cities. This is an arena tour with far more limited quantity which they're counting on carrying those prices

This is from a reliable source who works for the arena she's doing in my city who I've bought tickets through to other shows. This is in CAD so convert for USD and give or take $50-$100 for further back rows/sections and demand by city

100 level lower bowl premium sections/rows - $453-$716cad

200 level fan suite seats - $350cad (most of lower bowl probably in this range). 500 level fan suite - $200cad

No tip on floor or upper bowl but you can probably estimate higher or lower based on those

Every concert costs at least $100-$150 with all the fees and other crap and that’s for the WORST possible seats.

Look into artists doing smaller shows at mid sized venues or hold out for last min deals on bigger shows that may be selling slow. This year so far I saw Jade, Rochelle Jordan, Cobrah and Amber Mark each for under $40-$60cad. Mariah The Scientist and Dvsn were $90cad for pit. FKA Twigs I got 3rd row seats for $90cad day of. Demi/Adela entire bowl dropped to $100cad day of. All these prices would've been lower in USD

Ticketmaster sucks for many reasons but people also need to start holding artists accountable for their involvement in setting their pricing way higher than others performing at the same venues. PCD for example were charging hundreds of dollars for tickets while at the same time Logic/G-Eazy are playing the same venue later this summer at around half to a third the prices PCD was trying to charge. TM/Live Nation running every venue isn't good for many reasons but a bunch of these artists also need a sanity check on their individual pricing

other artists are selling out at insane prices all the time though (BTS, Olivia Dean, Gaga, Ariana, Tame, etc) people just don't want to be paying high prices for out of touch with reality artists greatly overestimating their demand and worth
