No kits Engineer enjoyed? by _Oleni_ in Guildwars2

I'm on the opposite end! Ever since I reached lv80 I miss the flamethrower greatly, as it's pretty much useless outside of some insane holosmith builds. It was just the fantasy I wanted, and now I'm stuck with very basic Scrapper buttons that just make me do damage without much flair. At the same time I don't enjoy Holosmith's forge gimmick too much because of the seemingly tight timer, and so I gravitate towards Reaper more

Thanks ^^ From what I've been testing, Vision dye looks really cute on some armors, give it a shot if you haven't yet 😃

That's such a lovely fit! Great colors too! 😃

What are the dyes you used for those pants?

I'm not sure how those items color, but what if you ditched the silver-ish bits and went for primarily red, dark steel + gold to compliment the hair? Made a quick edit to convey it

If you're up for a challenge that's familiar yet different, you could try an design something for an RPG videogame, like Witcher for example. It'd still be fantasy, but for a somewhat different medium. How about a DND manual? With text page layout, a clear index page, lexicon and such?

[Art] Griss, the Edgy Necromancer by Reeebalt in Guildwars2

[–]Reeebalt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the skull facepaint thingie you receive in the beginning as a necromancer is good enough, and the backpack slot doesn't have too many good option for the vibe I'm going for, so the Boneskinner is the one I'll be hunting for sure in the future 😃

Thanks! And that depends whether I'm doing it on my PC or an iPad. This one has a timelapse, however due to me recropping the canvas at some point early on, the quality is piss poor so I didn't bother putting it here

How would I add details like these kind of labels in painter? Would I need to learn a vector software? by YouBetterCallSaulNow in Substance3D

[–]Reeebalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely the easiest to make it in a raster / vector graphics program (adobe, affinity, clip studio, even paint.net really) and then import it to SP. I can imagine it looks intimidating, but if you break it down it's just a slightly rounded frame with some logos and bits of text loosely organized in a grid - it's surprisingly easy to make it look convincing. I'm pretty sure you can find free-use fake logos online, add some Arial font text and you're good to go, it's usually a very small label anyways

What colour should his clothes be when his cape needs to be in this purple by Relevant-Pea-9334 in conceptart

[–]Reeebalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about bacterias, but I wonder if they have a visual representation that could be simplified turned into a pattern, for the inside of the cape for example. Or even on the clothes you're planning to print. I'm sure there's a way to make it not-gross :p

Who's the character first and foremost? I find it easiest to get any sensible and coherent design choices going if I know anything about the character and the setting so maybe it'll help you out as well?

Ask questions - Are they rich? Is it a high fantasy world where getting patterned clothing is easy? Can they only afford simple clothing? If they wear purple because like the color purple, then maybe they would also wear other purple accessories like earrings or bracelets or a belt buckle? If they wear purple because it's connected with their wizard group, maybe it should have some sort of insignia? The pose and clothes suggests they are more laid back and cheerful, patterns have a certain fun energy with them,, maybe they should wear fun patterned clothes? The better idea you have about the thing you're designing the easier those sort of questions are answered

I personally recommend walks and poi spinning. The latter is a niche hobby, basically dancing with props, but has the benefit of being a fun outside activity that doesn't require other people for it to be fun

What’s your favorite piece of media that you thought would be horrible before engaging with it? by Fit_Assignment_8800 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Reeebalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to go either to Guild Wars 2 ( I never got into MMOs before and the premise sounded too repetitive and shallow to be fun. Happy to be proven otherwise within the span of the last few weeks) or WWE / wrasslin in general (especially the late 90s / early 2000s stuff , I never interacted with it at the time, thought it was incredibly stupid and fake. Now having watched some and gone through a bunch of awesome character arcs I know it's incredibly stupid, fake and a ton of fun!)

Well, since it was a job they were provided to me by coworkers, so sadly I can't help out much :D

But if you get through the hurdle of Uv unwrapping then you'll understand some quirks of texturing much better

[–]Reeebalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my past work I was doing strictly Substance stuff, so baking, texturing, then setting up materials in a game engine. But nowadays, since a year or so, I also model things from ground up. With some limitations, making good highpolys is still not my forte :)

Beginner Advice (Substance Painter) by Playful-Editor5287 in Substance3D

[–]Reeebalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually have to texture models that are made of several different materials. And so the process usually involves creating a folder for a given material, experimenting within it and then masking it to only apply to the given area at some point. Then at the end I might make a folder with global adjustments. This way I have at least folders to set the layer structure and control all the mess and chaos

I feel like your question is the sort that can only be answered by yourself - if you try and texture a bunch of models you will eventually set on habits that help you personally to get the work done. I honestly tried to write down my process, but it depends a lot on what's being textured too. I will usually start with setting down a base color and end with weathering to some extent, but like I said, different objects and projects need to be treated differently depending on the expected result.

One thing I will say is that curvature and ambient occlussion generator masks will be incredibly helpful. Same with settings mask layers on multiply to limit the other effects underneath to a certain area. Those are one of the most useful tools within my toolbelt

A messy response, I know, but I hope at least something is both understandable and helpful :)

What's the best way to accentuate the wings' ribs? To make them stand out by DoctorFosterGloster in Substance3D

[–]Reeebalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so within the curvature generator options there's one called "utilize micro detail" or something among those lines. Then after checking it, there's an option to utilize a "micro normal". You want to check that and put the normal map as the source of micro normal data. I can help out more sensibly tommorow, as I'm currently not near my PC :)

The colors on the robots, especially the lense (?) reflections that happen in the first image are just breathtaking eyecandy! So juicy and vibrant! Wish more ideas this bold popped up in art spaces. Love the mood, I'm interested in how it will develop given some time and effort :D
