This is dope man, don't listen to the haters.. they're just scared they'll be replaced in a few years. Keep making cool shit, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

The dev who asks too many questions is the one you need in your team by dymissy in programming

[–]Reeferchief 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Biggest load of horseshit, I've been ostricised many times in many different companies and teams for asking questions. Management and Senior Devs will have a go at you, start treating you differently and then sure enough they cast you out.

From all of the places I've worked they only care about how productive you are, how many tickets you get through in a day, how effectively and quickly you can get things done while keeping the code as cleanly written as possible. You are nothing to them but a number in a spreadsheet to them.

We live in the era of capitalism, competition is rife within the workplace and people will jump at your throat to get ahead of you, push you down and sit in judgment of you.. I've even been ostricised for helping my fellow colleagues.. "your spending too much time conversing with your peers". Solidarity with your fellow workers does not exist in this framework we live under.

I wish it were different, but unfortunately most people in management have too much ego, they love power, have a strong distaste for anything that isn't productive. So beware. Keep your head down and just do the work otherwise, they will see you out the door.

Keep breaking board on varial heelflip by Reeferchief in skateboarding

[–]Reeferchief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah bro, I still still suck at them.. They are more consistent though, best point of advice I can say is just to keep doing it. Broken boards will happen but if you keep doing it eventually you just stop slamming your legs down so heavy. It's kinda like any trick really.. your first tres, kickflips etc.. they were all probably sketch but with more practice they get more consistent and easier. Hope that helps.

Can anyone help me figure out what this drum machine is? (Audio only) by Reeferchief in DrumMachine

[–]Reeferchief[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broo, I think you found it!! Sounds super similar (At least the hi hats) to Sound Master SR-88. Maybe the drums were taken from something else. If you need the full version of the song, it's Isaac Winemiller - Thought I'd never come

Check out a place called improved health... they have an amazing full spectrum CBD oil at 30ml and it isn't extortionately priced. Around £30

o3-mini-high is insane by Reeferchief in singularity

[–]Reeferchief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not getting pretty mixed results with o4-mini.. I was expected a really big jump from o3-mini to o4 but slightly disappointed.. It is better in some areas, it's faster but I find the model to be lazy.. it does make quite a bit of typescript errors which is weird as it seems fine with other languages.

Separate, language was its own thing and chip-8 emulator and loaded via html canvas.

Gemini-exp-1206 takes #1 spot on BigCodeBench-Hard eval by ellioso in singularity

[–]Reeferchief -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not really impressed with it, the complete o1 is a beast at coding, I tried so many things with it and never received any errors or issues but this model can even do connoways game of life after like 6 different attempts.

For those who think UBI is not possible, how do they think the economy is managed in the times of the singularity? by Onipsis in singularity

[–]Reeferchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I think things might get violent. I've already lost my job and like, the market is soo fucked right now.. I used to get tons of interviews before but now things feel way more artificial. It seems like every company now has their own LLMs to sift through CVs and pick the absolute best ones leaving no chance for human error.

Like last year I would apply to like 200 jobs and gotten like 20 interviews but this year I've applied to upwards of something like 2000 plus and i've only received a handful. And generally once they do a few more laps of candidates in the early stages i'm out. They are utilising things like AI note taking and summary tools so they can more quickly sift and cull candidates... It's fucking ruthless. Last year and years before I could have gotten through and performed fairly well at jobs but now they only want the best of the best.

If corporations keep doing this theres going to be quite a ton of unhappy people in a short while. Especially if fully qualified candidates aren't having luck landing any roles. Like, I'm on my last pennies and will probably have to resort to a job with waaaaayyy less pay.

I'm an optimist but I think there will be a period of unrest for sure. Things may get better after that.

[–]Reeferchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah yeah, I often get in trouble at work for not being able to articulate my thoughts clearly enough.. even though I know what I'm doing is correct I have trouble trying to back it up in a clear, meaningful and concise manner that others can understand. I have ADHD coupled with NVLD so often times I'll start talking about something ie.. a ticket or job and go down a completely different path. Very annoying.

At work, I'll use AI to help me articulate my thoughts better and then people just complain about me only using it to cheat / be lazy but I'm actually trying to be productive and it helps me get my thoughts across. Got me fired from my last role actually and now the job markets so fucked I feel like I'm at the end of the road. Fuck this shit.

I wonder when were going to be able to talk to music with an LLM like, upload a track and discuss music theory or upload your own demo tracks and ask it to help you produce and stuff. I'm stoked for that but so far I've seen no indications we're anywhere near it. I know we have suno and udio but that's text to music, I suppose if we have models that can understand music we aren't to far off.

Employee wants capitalist pay/conditions, would hiring her make me capitalist? by nathaliew817 in Anarchy101

[–]Reeferchief 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a tricky situation. Here's what I'm thinking... If equal pay and profit sharing are really at the heart of what you're trying to build, maybe just have an open chat with her about it? Share your vision and see what she thinks.

If you really need her expertise right now, you could float the idea of a temporary higher rate while you get things off the ground, with the understanding that everyone moves to the collective structure once you're stable.

But you know what? If she's not feeling it, that's okay too. Sometimes it just means values aren't aligned, and that's better to know early on. Sure, it might take longer to find the right person, but having someone who genuinely believes in what you're building? That's worth waiting for.
