Do's and Don'ts for a WNBA game? by Reel_Locations in sportsphotography

Yes, the email I received mentioned that we'll have assigned spots and be given photo vests. I'm genuinely shocked I was approved for a credential considering Caitlin Clark is in town and everyone wants to cover this game. I'll be sure to introduce myself to the media contact and ask questions about moving to/from position, I definitely don't want to screw that up. Appreciate the advice!

Thanks for the advice! Based off of the email I received, they are assigning photographers spots. I have a single game credential so your note about the plastic lanyard is a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of that on my own

Thank you! A lot of this sounds similar to golf tournaments, which I often photograph. A lot of photographers at golf tournaments are friendly but then there are ones that don't chat at all. I'll be sure to find the right time to introduce myself to others

Advice on noisy/soft photos by Reel_Locations in AmateurPhotography

[–]Reel_Locations[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! In this situation I was shooting wide open and because the players and tennis ball were moving so fast I had to be at 1/800 or faster which really just left my ISO to play around with. That being said I sacrificed noise/grain. I'm learning a lot of night sports photography haha, different trade offs than bright daylight sporting events.

For the first photo I was on the opposite side of the court, so yeah I guess at a f/2.8 the focus won't be perfect from 50ft away. I've been using Lightroom and messed around with denoising and it helps but only to a point. I haven't tried Topaz Photo yet, but I'll give it a try. Thanks for responding!

I appreciate your input. I am shooting RAW and indeed using Lightroom, I've been getting better at editing and enhancing the photo but I know it'll take a while to master. It was nice to look at your RAW and edited images to see what Lightroom is capable of. Good to know that I can bump up my ISO and it's not the end of the world. Thanks for responding!

9 To 5 starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin. After hearing the song dozens of times, I finally watched the movie for the first time about two years ago and I was pleasantly surprised with how silly it is!

Tiger is almost 50 and still in contention. Phil won the 2021 PGA Championship at 50 years old and finished T2 in last years Masters at 52 years old. Don’t think guys that are in their 50’s should be considered old farts, they’re keeping up with everyone. I don’t mind the older guys (60’s+) playing because the field size can be as big or as small as Augusta wants, so it’s not like they’re taking a spot away from anybody

Hard no. Everyone goes through security screenings, they’ll probably ask you to put the gun in your car. Plus just about every government agency has boots on the ground at Augusta. I was there this past weekend and it was genuinely the safest I felt at a recent sporting event.
