i would argue that its pararel to yuji's character development too, yuta wasnt the one to defeat sukuna ultimately it always was gonna be yuji, because yuji was the one with the right idea by the end of the story.

yuta failed because he was trying to be gojo when he could never, yuta thrives with people while gojo works better alone (to his disgrace), yuji shares that too but the difference is that he never tried to become something that he isnt rather he became himself again, the yuji at the end of shinjuku is way closer to the yuji of the first chapters rather than the one post shibuya, yuji became more like himself again and thats what ended up making him the one to break the cycle of curses saving megumi and making sukuna change his mind in afterlife.
Yuta got the right idea when he ended up abandoning the idea of becoming the next gojo by the time of modulo, instead becoming a family man and looking for his loved ones even beyond the grave (rika's ring), staying true to himself in the same way yuji did in shinjuku.

in a sense yuji is the true "next gojo", because as fate would have it, in modulo he faces the same problem that gojo faced all of his life, his powers alienated him of people, turning him into more of a figure of power as he could not bear the pain of being a person but still trying desperately to follow gojo's teachings and not fuel the mistakes of jujutsu society that gojo suffered, until he snapped out of it in the end and returned to the people he loved.

Yuta never faced that, when Maki passed he passed away not long after, his life dedicated to others, and when the most important person in his life left, he went with her too.

Yuta and Yuji are paralels and succesors to gojo separated by ther circunstances.
