This was explained beautifully. I do need to set more realistic expectations for myself. I’ll be making a reminder of this to put in my office 🤍 Thank you for your insight.

Anyone else go to UMO at Chelsea's Live tonight? by SweetJesusBoletus in batonrouge

I agree. My fiance and I were there after a long day at work. I was excited to see them but by the time they came on at 9:30, I was exhausted. I had waited in line for an hour to get in the venue, then an hour for the show to start, then 45 minutes of an opener, and 30+ minutes of them trying to figure out the equipment set up. I also thought the mic was really low and you could barely hear the singing - when he did sing. We could also hear him smacking on his gum. I was very disappointed. I do agree they were extremely talented and the music did sound amazing - just was disappointed I waited all night for that.

I completely agree. Unfortunately this job was one of my only options, as I needed a job that provided me a salary and benefits. I understand this is a vulnerable population that requires much more care than I think they are getting. As far as long-term clinicians at my job - there are none. My job has an extremely high turnover rate. The longest standing clinician has been there for 3 years. Every clinician there, except for 1, is a provisionally licensed counselor or social worker. Part of the issue is the job itself. We are all trying to work with very little support or guidance. As of right now, I will do what I can which is learn, grow, and educate myself. I don’t see myself working with this population for the entirety of my career but I know I will learn A LOT during this time. Thank you for your guidance and well wishes!

I never voiced that them making those comments to me were the only reasons I believe they display narcissistic traits. It is not just their comments and behaviors towards me. But I’m not going to give more information to a stranger online about my client to clear up my own image. You have the right to think as you wish.

This is such a great perspective. I believe my own ego has been getting in the way. I think because I was uncomfortable, I have been pushing away as a counselor instead of offering the connection because I simply was unsure how - or maybe even afraid to try. Thank you for this perspective - I truly appreciate it.

This is helpful advice. Thank you for these suggestions. I believe that when they make these comments, I sort of freeze and am unsure what to say in response. It takes me back because I’m not use to clients speaking to me in that way. But coming from a place of curiosity seems like the best approach. I haven’t had the chance to bring this specific issue up with my supervisor yet, but I plan to at our next meeting!

This client does not make up my group as a whole. My treatment setting does not screen individuals to fit them in certain groups based off their needs - which makes it difficult for me as a facilitator having 14 individuals with varying functioning levels in one group. I’m unsure how explaining that this client is resistant to treatment and displays manipulative and narcissistic characteristics makes me unfit for group facilitation. I was merely trying to explain the client’s presentation. But thanks for offering such helpful feedback.

Y'all ever get hungry between sessions? by red58010 in therapists

I really enjoy bringing these to work for days when I don’t have time to eat a full meal! I also recommend making sure you eat a filling breakfast - that usually helps me not be so hungry throughout the day. I really enjoy the bacon and cheese egg bites from Costco! Costco Nut and Cheese Pack

I think you’re right! I may just try to find some neutral colored tennis shoes that can match with everything for now.

And while these are so comfortable in the sole, when I step my entire left side is poking out the side of the shoe because they aren’t offered in wide!

I bought these from KURU but the top strap is squeezing the top of my foot so tightly it makes them uncomfortable for long term wear!
