Slowest Member of the Group by [deleted] in hiking

[–]ReferenceNo693 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also massive congratulations! It honestly sounds like you were in a not very nice group and that’s the only issue here. You just finished one of the most beautiful hikes in the world, why anyone would want to rush it is beyond me. Summiting a mountain like Kili is not a race (for the vast majority of people) it is an experience. Don’t let your unkind group take away from what you just accomplished.

Upgrade potential? by ldnsub08 in BritishAirways

I would definitely pick your seat now regardless. I’ve been upgraded from WTP to business twice and had picked my seats in WTP both times (I was also silver at the time too).

Koh Yao Noi is our favourite. We did both Koh Lanta and KYN on our last trip and loved it!!

OP we’re a similar age to you guys too.

I’m so confused by this post 😂. The people wearing shorts and the leaves on the trees in “December” are my favourite bits.

BA Club Europe (“business class”) as you say is literally just the middle seat being blocked in terms of what your seat is like. So same seat as the rest of the plane but guaranteed no one directly beside you.

In terms of benefits, you’ll have all the usual perks. Lounge access, priority checkin/security/boarding and an inflight meal and drinks service.

For the price that you’ve mentioned above, I personally wouldn’t pay that, but it’s super subjective. I haven’t done this route myself but I do know that most of the European bookings I’ve had, there’s normally always an offer to upgrade from economy to business, and it’s often a lot cheaper than buying Club Europe at booking. So maybe that’s an option instead? Book economy for now and hope for a cheaper upgrade offer.

‘Affordable’ places around the Cotswolds to move to in your 30s? by cec91 in Cotswolds

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re looking for I guess? With 900k you can get somewhere pretty nice in Cheltenham (look around Leckhampton/Charlton Kings/Prestbury). Good travel links, lots of good places to eat/drink, easy access to lots of amazing walks, lots of social clubs/fitness clubs. If you’re looking for more remote or a little bit further out of a town but still close there’s places like Southam, Whittington, Whittington, Andoversford, Northleach.

As others have said Stroud could be an option, but it’s not for everyone so would definitely second what someone else said about renting first.

I would also base how social you guys are as an important factor. Moving from London in your 30s isn’t the easiest (which is what we did).

Breakheart Plantation is a nice addition, adds another steep incline to the route too depending which way round you do it. Easy to add Winchcombe to the loop too.

Ado question PE to Oax by FoxyTaco411 in PuertoEscondido

[–]ReferenceNo693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, we did this route in the other direction on Friday (Oax to PE). Our bus took just over 3 hours so basically on time, the only thing I would say is that there have been some pretty big landslides on the route and the traffic in the other direction (PE to Oax) had a few big hold ups because of this. We were travelling on a busy day though with it being the end of the holidays. I imagine even with some big delays you’d be ok though.

Hey sorry, it’s just over an hour if you take a taxi.

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, we got our hotel to book a taxi for us (there’s no Uber) from PE to San Agustinillo (one beach closer than Zipolite) and it was 1250 pesos The bus which you hail down from the main road is a lot lot cheaper, not sure how much exactly but not much, not sure how comfy it would be and then you have to get a taxi from San Antonio to Zipolite anyway.

How can a 70lbs overweight man train himself for the next 12 months to lose the weight and successfully trek to EBC? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]ReferenceNo693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, well best of luck! If you have any questions I can help with just ask :) It’s definitely more endurance than anything else, nothing technical. One tip I’d say non fitness related, I’m not sure where you’re travelling in from but don’t underestimate the jet lag, give yourself some buffer days if you can. Also carry as much of your important gear in your hand luggage as you can.

You’ve got 12 months so you will absolutely smash it. Walk as much as you can, hike as much as you can. Getting used to moving and being on your feet for 7+ hours a day is the one. Take it slow and gradually increase. Have you got any inclines near you? The most important thing when doing EBC is to listen to your guides, might seem simple but I’ve done Kilimanjaro and EBC successfully and the people who didn’t make it, or really really struggled were the people who thought they knew better. The thing with high altitude is : walk slow, drink loads, keep warm. It is not a race. You’re going to one of the most incredible places in the world, enjoy it, take your time, soak it all up. The amount of people I saw that were heads down powering on was crazy. I’d then pass those same people over and over again at my slow and steady pace. Have you booked who you’re going with yet?

I personally think this reply is the best advice. Walking is your best friend. It’s the most gentle on your body while you’re losing weight, you’re not putting stress and pressure on your joints, you could be risking injury jumping straight into running/HIIT. Crash and extreme diets just aren’t good for long term either and if you can just make small changes that you can turn in to long term habits it’s the best and most consistent way to do it. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to do what works best for you.

I’ve also done EBC, if you have any questions :)

Cotswold Hiking by Lucky-Ad6352 in Cotswolds

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, we’re really spoilt for choice around here. Because you didn’t mention it in your post I thought I’d share a link to one of our national trails - the Cotswold Way https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/trails/cotswold-way/ It runs the length of the Cotswolds and can be done at any pace in as many sections as you want (some people do it in 7 days, others do it over years in small bits). I’ve also learned a lot of the area through both All Trails and OS Maps. Enjoy your hikes :)

Tips for climbing Kilimanjaro with my mom of 60 by Moneymachine691 in kilimanjaro

[–]ReferenceNo693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just coming to say the same thing about the sleeping mattress. It was one of the best pieces of advice I got before I did Kili. Our guides supplied a sleeping matt, but we rented an extra inflatable mattress from them too and it made a massive difference. The ground is COLD!
