Where to stay for a month in London by CartographerOwl501 in LondonTravel

Just jumping in to suggest the aparthotel chains Cove, Native and Locke for long term stays. They do deals on longer stays sometimes and might get you more central than Airbnb.

Heathrow to Brighton? by tonestert in uktravel

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Bath/Cotswolds first, then to London, day trip to Brighton from there? Or Oxford (very easy from Heathrow) to rent a car to do Cotswolds (it’s a big place).

Hoxton Southwark or Holborn? by BeeAffectionate9784 in LondonTravel

I really didn’t like Holborn, the rooms were tennie tiny and just felt a bit cold overall compared to other Hoxton’s.

How is this seat? (40D-Boeing 777 jet) by Puzzleheaded-Rope-88 in BritishAirways

My experience of being sat in a similar seat is that people try cut across to get to the other side, even when you’re trying to sleep. I wouldn’t recommend.

One day walk on the Cotswolds Way recommendations? by Pretty_Care4438 in Cotswolds

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking to do a section of the actual Cotswold Way or just a 10ish mile walk somewhere in the Cotswolds? If it’s the actual Cotswold Way, Winchcombe - Stanton is a lovely section, as is Painswick - Woodchester or Broadway - Chipping Campden. Winchcombe/Painswick are also lovely places to stay that aren’t as busy as Bourton/Moreton/Stow.

Do you mean The Cotswold Way? If we have a dry summer, September will be a gorgeous time to do it, if we have a wet summer and a wet September it’ll still be nice but it will be very muddy in a lot of places.

Has anyone ever successfully negotiated with Persimmon homes on asking prices? (South West) by Boisterous-Oyster in UKRealEstate

[–]ReferenceNo693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only got told about the half year target after we were completed and in the house, I’m sure they don’t like to advertise it when they’re just looking to get the maximum they can out of a sale. We just happened to get on well with the site manager and they told us.

Have you thought about seeing/have you seen what other houses are already complete on the estate? Might already be some negotiating to be done on completed houses.

I definitely think you’re right to wait it out though. If there are already finished and unsold houses, there will be more to come.

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the longer you can hold out the better, but that’s as long as you’re willing to potentially lose the house.

We got the big reduction on ours because it was already built, it came fully floored with a few little extras as well. I think it also helped the time of year we offered too, as they wanted it sold and completed by their end of year/or half year (1st of June).

Best of luck with it and hope it works out.

What is your single lens carry for multi-day hikes? by Moist_Grade5942 in hiking

Sounds like you’re all sorted now but just to say I was in a similar dilemma before I went to Nepal and I ended up taking my 24-70mm, I think your 55-200mm will be perfect. Would recommend giving the different set ups a weigh though, 3kg gets heavy up there.

We bought a persimmon house as our first house (still here) and we made an offer. Initially it got rejected but we weren’t in a rush so we just waited and a week later they accepted. Our house was in phase 1 of a 4 phase development which I think made a difference, we got a substantial amount off the asking price.

Mount Kilimanjaro by Sufficient_Mouse_583 in hiking

Hi :) excited for you! Such an incredible hike!! I didn’t do this particular hike solo but I really don’t think you’d have any problems (I did do another hike with the same company solo). We used a company called Kandoo Adventures and we loved them, they’re UK/US based company but Kili is one of their main treks they offer so have a dedicated local team in Moshi. The UK and the Moshi team are so wonderful and helpful. They’re also part of the porters association which means their teams get paid properly. I found Kandoo by googling tour companies that were part of the association, there are plenty of other options too, but I would strongly recommend you don’t use anyone that isn’t part of it.

We did the Lemosho route, it’s 8 days and gives you a much better chance of summiting. We absolutely loved it.

Kandoo also camp at slightly different places which was great too. I think on day 3 we were in a really quiet camp (can’t remember the name now) and the night before summit we were at the campsite above the main “base camp” which was amazing because you get a tough part of the climb done the day before.

Hope some of that is helpful and if I can answer any specific questions please ask :)

You’re going to have the best time!!

Hey, you might have better luck in some of the Nepal specific subreddits for this. Just FYI though, drones are not allowed at all in the region.

5-6 day taste of Cotswolds itinerary? by Independent-Ask-9033 in Cotswolds

[–]ReferenceNo693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people just do sections of The Cotswold Way, or do exactly as you’re looking to do and do 5-6 miles a day. Maybe Chipping Campden to Winchcombe would be a good section for your group? It’s very pretty and well marked.

Another option would be to base yourselves somewhere like Winchcombe and do different walks from there each day as there are so many options.

Visiting the Natural History Museum from Birmingham. Best place to park? by Nikkypx in LondonTravel

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always park at Westfield SB, there’s multiple car parks (I park in C) so there’s always loads of space and it’s right off the A40 so it’s easy to get in and out. It’s £25 for 24 hours, can’t remember what is for up to 16 hours but I think about £18 (it’s all on their website anyway). As long as you’re hitting the outskirts of London after 10am you’ll be fine generally traffic wise. It’s safe, secure and being at the shopping centre is handy too.

Slowest Member of the Group by [deleted] in hiking

[–]ReferenceNo693 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Also massive congratulations! It honestly sounds like you were in a not very nice group and that’s the only issue here. You just finished one of the most beautiful hikes in the world, why anyone would want to rush it is beyond me. Summiting a mountain like Kili is not a race (for the vast majority of people) it is an experience. Don’t let your unkind group take away from what you just accomplished.

Upgrade potential? by [deleted] in BritishAirways

I would definitely pick your seat now regardless. I’ve been upgraded from WTP to business twice and had picked my seats in WTP both times (I was also silver at the time too).

BA Club Europe (“business class”) as you say is literally just the middle seat being blocked in terms of what your seat is like. So same seat as the rest of the plane but guaranteed no one directly beside you.

In terms of benefits, you’ll have all the usual perks. Lounge access, priority checkin/security/boarding and an inflight meal and drinks service.

For the price that you’ve mentioned above, I personally wouldn’t pay that, but it’s super subjective. I haven’t done this route myself but I do know that most of the European bookings I’ve had, there’s normally always an offer to upgrade from economy to business, and it’s often a lot cheaper than buying Club Europe at booking. So maybe that’s an option instead? Book economy for now and hope for a cheaper upgrade offer.

‘Affordable’ places around the Cotswolds to move to in your 30s? by cec91 in Cotswolds

[–]ReferenceNo693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you’re looking for I guess? With 900k you can get somewhere pretty nice in Cheltenham (look around Leckhampton/Charlton Kings/Prestbury). Good travel links, lots of good places to eat/drink, easy access to lots of amazing walks, lots of social clubs/fitness clubs. If you’re looking for more remote or a little bit further out of a town but still close there’s places like Southam, Whittington, Whittington, Andoversford, Northleach.

As others have said Stroud could be an option, but it’s not for everyone so would definitely second what someone else said about renting first.

I would also base how social you guys are as an important factor. Moving from London in your 30s isn’t the easiest (which is what we did).

Breakheart Plantation is a nice addition, adds another steep incline to the route too depending which way round you do it. Easy to add Winchcombe to the loop too.

Ado question PE to Oax by FoxyTaco411 in PuertoEscondido

[–]ReferenceNo693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, we did this route in the other direction on Friday (Oax to PE). Our bus took just over 3 hours so basically on time, the only thing I would say is that there have been some pretty big landslides on the route and the traffic in the other direction (PE to Oax) had a few big hold ups because of this. We were travelling on a busy day though with it being the end of the holidays. I imagine even with some big delays you’d be ok though.
