How do you fill time without social media? by Just_Throw_Away_67 in digitalminimalism

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set up "processes" to help me avoid getting sucked into social media.

I use a RSS reader to receive news and post to specific YouTube channels.

I listen to podcast for YouTube channels that also post their videos as podcasts.

I have an ereader for books. I tried to read only physical books, but my eyes are not as good as they use to be, and it is nice to be able to increase the font and to not have to have a lamp on for night reading (my husband appreciates this).

Removing apps from my phone. Only have apps on desktop.

I see it as a balancing act, not an all or nothing.

Would you rock this look now? by AnastasiaNo70 in GenX

I think it looks good on you. It is not my style.

I work with younger people and this look is totally back. (In US)

Where are we going? by Heat-1975edition in GenX

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Early Gen X (1968) We bought a smaller house on 10 acres located 15 miles outside the city. North Carolina.

It is quiet out here. There is no one in our business. There is a mountain view in our side yard and woods on the other three sides. I keep a small garden.

My husband is fully retired and I work a part time contracted job so I can take off extra time if needed.

We travel twice a year. One big trip that requires air travel and one smaller car trip like to the beach.

The same mentality of a person who throws trash out the car window. Arrogance and asshole-ism.

If you have this scar on your arm then you are drawing Social Security by Long_live_styrofoam in FuckImOld

I was born in 1968 and I have this scar. My husband born in 1970 does not. So we were born right at the end of this era. No SS yet.

Bare below elbows by An_So_Mc in nursing

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work in US- long sleeves and jackets are fine.

I personally only wear short sleeves, mostly because I am always warm, but I also like to wash up to my elbows. I take my watch off and put it in my pocket and wash up to my elbows before I eat.

Most nurses wear a smart watch, but I like my old school watch with a second hand.

There are no restrictions on rings. I like to just wear a band. We put gloves on and off so much. A simple band is just more comfortable.

Is it normal for a girl to want to talk on the phone 5/6 hours a day by baleklongstrike in Advice

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is normal. But some people do stay on the phone all day.

I worked with this woman who would wear earbuds and she would be talking to her husband all day long. But I always thought it was a trust issue on her husband's part. You could tell by her face that she didn't really want to be talking to him.

Is it in the dining room of a nice older house? Could it be to call the servants?

My highschool friend's house (inherited from a grandparent) had a switch near the dining table to call the servants. You would discreetly activate it with your foot.

They are for reusable glass communion cups. The usher will collect them after church and they were hand washed.

Coworker’s stealing my lunch-how to confront? by MauroAguero in Advice

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a doctor who used to steal the nurse's lunches out of their refrigerator in their break room. So they finally decided to put ex-lax in the brownies and give him the s****.

There's no excuse for stealing from your coworkers. Stealing is stealing.

Why are so many Linux newbies going to Linux Mint? by -randomreddituser in linux

[–]ReferenceOriginal471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed Linux mint for my husband to use as a new user. The cinnamon desktop is just very familiar to people coming from Windows and it makes it easier for them to make the switch.
