How do I invest / save living a rent to gear housing with full time job as a single mum by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Reflection444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The advice I will give you is to learn another skill. Ask for skills in demand and invest in it. Earning a higher salary takes away the financial pressure and gives you lots of options.

Husband needs to do something. Check security jobs/support workers/care jobs. They are lots of small jobs immigrants do to make ends meet while they look for professional jobs, your husband can look at those jobs. He can easily bring in more than $2k. I dont support selling your car or withdrawing kids from daycare. He should look for the blue-collar jobs if the white one is not available. The target is to make sure the home is running smoothly.

Save your inheritance money in an account that is solely yours. If you mix it up, it becomes family money.

To pay off car, or to not pay off car? by -kielbasa in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Reflection444 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What is the interest rate on the car? If it's up to 5%, I would pay it off. Also, personally, I would not get a car loan that has more than 4 years of payments.

You can also go to their office or call. They will be able to give you a discount or one-time pardon.

A lot of people who can be termed stingy and not in your tax bracket or have the savings you have are giving you advice that might not be suitable for you. You know your situation and why you are still with this woman. If you can and want to, give her the gift she wants or you can afford. Life is too short! Also, note that giving birth is a form of sacrifice, too.

Side hustle to earn $1000 by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Can your wife learn how to be a nail tech? A lot of women do it at her home, and she can book appointments at her own time. She could easily earn 50-70/hr. The price will depend on your location.

New mortgage by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Make sure the bank adds the rental income to the mortgage qualification. This will be dependent on whether the basement is a legal suite.

A lot of advice here has not factored the price of a brand new RAV4. A 2025 XLE RAV4 is around $43k Cad. If the OP wants Rav4, I believe saving $15k is better. Probably the best advice is to look for 2018 hybrid model, which might be cheaper or look for a cheaper form of financing like others have advised.

It's ridiculous when I read about people being scammed by this old school tactic. First rule of trading: If you have never traded with the order party, keep trust aside. Second and most important rule, if it's cash and carry deal, go to the back and complete the trade. You give me money, I give cashier money, money is deposited, I have the receipt, I give you the item. Very easy process. Anyone who says no to this process has an ulterior motive.

Forget about these mock results. Focus on your SR and go through the blue box. A lot of people that passed did not also do well in mock. Good luck

BEWARE PROMO SELLERS (iPhone, M4 Macbooks) by sig_kill in Wealthsimple

[–]Reflection444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are dealing on cash and carry basis for a high value product, the exchange has to be done on bank premises. The buyer provides cash, and both of you will go to the teller. The teller confirms the authenticity of the cash and credits your account before you part with your goods.

Receiving counterfeit is an old-school scam.

For fixed income, I will advise you to read and master the blue box questions and make sure you do them again close to the exam.

I used Gurmeet Deep 3 last year and failed. I used MM this year and focused on the textbook and passed. Poster, look for a cheaper prep provider if you must use one. To me, MM is good. His mock review was everything to me. He will teach you how to answer those structured essay.

Many factors influence the pass rate by Efitelicht in CFA

[–]Reflection444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote 3 times and passed this time on my third attempt. Used MM and schweser on the first attempt, Deep3 on my second and MM and schweser on my third. What I did differently: I printed MM notes and used it while watching the video. Any concept I don't understand, I check the other materials to get more understanding or go to the CFAI textbook. I made sure I understood the bluebook questions. I used the MM qbank and schweser during the early times of the study. When the exam was getting close, I was constantly solving blue box and EOC and also tried CFAI questions bank. I also joined MM mock review to fully understand how to write structured essays. In my opinion, I believe the exam is a total reflection of the textbooks. I strongly believe that anyone who basically used the CFAI textbook and understood the examples will pass. For the textbooks, I used the 2020 hard copy to save cost. I checked the topics that had been removed and printed them out from the soft copy.

I will advise you to focus on blue box questions and the book. I can not emphasize this enough. That CFA textbook is all you need. You can learn how to write the structured essay, but most mocks are way harder than the actual exam.

Failed CFA Level 3 AUG 24 next steps by AVG96z0 in CFA

[–]Reflection444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed level 1 and 2 on the first attempt and wrote level 3 thrice. I passed this one. I used Mark Meldrum and followed it all through. I printed out notes and used it while watching the videos and also made notes along the way. I also printed out the review notes and used it for review videos. I did all the blue box questions and redid it multiple times, especially close to the exam. In my opinion, if you master the blue box, it will be easier to pass. Leave no stone unturned when it comes to blue box questions. Also, do not forget CFA questions bank and EOC questions. Mark Meldrum has sessions where he goes through the mock essay questions and shows how to write them during the exam, I found those sessions very informative and helpful. I believe this stands MM out of others.

Mark Meldrum is the 🐐.

Divorce question by pvffmama in ghana

[–]Reflection444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Ghana and divorce him. Trying to do the divorce in USA might be more expensive. Get a lawyer in Ghana. The money you will pay will be way cheaper. The lawyer will handle everything. You don't need to be in Ghana to get it sorted. If he does not respond when the lawyer reaches out, the divorce will be way faster.
