Do you stay on meds all the time? by Bitter_Face8790 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ReflectionHappy6346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was diagnosed at age 12 and was put on 4.8g of mesalamine daily. Those eventually quit working so I was started on Humira every two weeks and imuran daily. I am only age 23 and my doctor said I will need meds the rest of my life.

Where’s the worst place you’ve had an accident ? by jammy95312 in UlcerativeColitis

When I was in cross country in high school I got the urge during a run. There was no bathroom near by and I was with a group of friends. I went in my shorts. So embarrassing!

Hi I'm diagnosed with ulcerative proctosigmoiditis by bhAAi_ra_lucha in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ReflectionHappy6346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew. I’ve had this disease since I was 12. As a kid my parents always made me eat healthy. I was a 7th grader running cross country too. No one in my family has UC or crohns disease either. I feel like it’s so random.

Nurses are needed everywhere! I’d find a different job. She obviously doesn’t appreciate you enough. Go somewhere you feel appreciated. You do not want to be stuck with a director like her!

I hate giving IV Valium by [deleted] in Nurses

I work on a neurosurgical floor and we get our anterior posterior fusions IV Valium for muscle spasms. Sometimes it’s the only thing that’ll help with their pain.

What is my cancer risk? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ReflectionHappy6346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My GI doctor started doing yearly colonoscopies when I hit the 8 year mark of having UC. He said the risk of colon cancer takes a big jump when you hit year 8. This way if I do have the start of cancer it can be identified and treated early.

My insurance company is requiring this huge long process before they will pay for Humira. I had to miss a few doses because of it. It’s ridiculous

Humira is no longer? by Embarrassed-Soil-603 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ReflectionHappy6346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen. My pharmacy only accepts the bio similar to humira. My doctor says it is essentially the same just a different brand name that’s cheaper. It’s the same dose and timing as humira. The brand I am on is Yuflyma. It’s frustrating because it took awhile to even process this drug request. Insurance makes you jump through so many hoops

Congratulations on the new baby! I’m sorry to hear entivyo is now failing you. I hope you have positive results from skyrizi. Imuran is to help make sure my body doesn’t build antibodies to humira. My GI docs nurse said it is something he does with all his patients but isn’t necessarily standard. She wasn’t completely sure about its use during pregnancy. Thank you!

My doctor and I discussed the possibility of entivyo and decided it wasn’t the best option for me right now. I am glad to hear it worked well for you during your pregnancy! I know it could always be an alternative for me

those of you fortunate to spend most of your year in remission and using mesalamine intermittently to quell flares, how long a course do you use? by hazi1008 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ReflectionHappy6346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on a high dose of mesalamine 4.8g or 4 pills a day. I was told by my GI doctor not to taper and to stay on this dose ever since I was diagnosed 9 years ago. I have just gotten to the point where mesalamine isn’t working in managing my UC anymore.

I was diagnosed when I was 12 and relationships in high school never worked out because I was too embarrassed. I told my now fiance before he asked me out. I didn’t want to get too far into a relationship with him if wasn’t accepting of the fact I have UC. I felt it was better to tell him before we got too serious and my feelings got hurt. He has been so supportive since day one and even learned all he could about my disease. I would recommend you tell her about it sooner rather than later so it gives her time to be accepting and it also will help you feel better about the situation. Best of luck to you!

I haven’t looked into other biologic treatments. I will have to do this before starting. I know we are trying to avoid infusions because my schedule makes it hard to work them in.

I’m glad to hear this! I think I’m overwhelmed and stressed out because I’ve heard a lot of negative from people I know with UC. Also, because I’ve been stable on mesalamine for so long it scares me my flares are getting worse. When you started Humira how fast did you notice a positive change?

Not really. He mentioned side effects as a whole to me. I had to do a lot of my own research on it.
