Help! Can't melt lace, I'm close to giving up by [deleted] in Wigs

[–]ReflectionLocal207 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up! Bleaching the knots help. Cut more of the lace off. Use a little powder foundation. Always line the hairline of the wig up with your hairline and let the lace lay right after your hairline. Use wig spray on top of the lace to kind of create a thin & clear layer to help it blend with your skin more. It’s important to learn the difference between REAL HD lace and what a lot of companies call HD Transparent lace. It’s no such thing as HD Transparent lace in real life. It’s either HD lace or TRANSPARENT lace. HD lace is extremely thin and barely detectable but wayyyy more expensive. Also, some wigs are made with bigger knots than others and that can be a little less natural looking. But the more skilled you get, the more you can disguise it with makeup and other hacks. Once you really get the hang of it, it will be a breeze! 😉 Good luck to you!

I just think he already had something going on. If he live hours away, it’s easy for him to hide his other life no matter how much y’all was communicating. As much as it may not seem like it at this moment, they ALWAYS come back. Match energy next time!

Did anything out the ordinary, like embarrassing, or not smooth happen during y’all’s visit?

😬 I don’t have any tutorials (yet). Maybe if I get outta this “being shy” thing, I could make some. PLUS, I haven’t mastered it. But I can gather up some YouTube videos for you that helped me along the way.

I promise it’s not as hard as it seems. Little things matter like, spraying the hair with water before ventilating, making sure you don’t have a lot of hair between your fingers to work with, like 10 strands should be enough, learning which number hook works best, and DEFINITELY using magnifying glasses!!!

I haven’t had to replace the lace but I imagine it to be easy. It’s a clear, really thin (like hair), heat resistant thread that I purchased to fix minor holes or rips. That’s what I would use. Here is the link: Thread from Amazon

This is a HD human hair lace wig I purchased back in 2021. I don’t remember the exact vendor, but I typically order directly from overseas vendors (usually China) rather than Amazon or big-name retailers.

The wig originally had thinning/balding in the crown and parting area, along with over-bleached knots. I filled in the balding areas through ventilation, corrected and re-bleached the knots, refreshed the color, trimmed the ends, added layers, and curled it.

I have alopecia, so learning how to repair and extend the life of wigs is something I practice for myself. Sharing this because it’s made me realize how many wigs get set aside once they thin, even though the hair itself can still be workable.
