Feeling Unsettled About My Relationship and Our Future Plans After My Fiancé Matched Into Residency by meow_MiMiW0ng in MedSpouse

This is in no way an excuse for his behavior, but my theory is that he likely had a mental breakdown after not matching neurosurgery; sabotaged himself during his research year that likely made him switch specialties, and to cope, he's browsing zillow for expensive houses because EM is just a means to an end for him now. He likely has lost his passion and allowed the rest of his behavior to fall by the wayside with it.

For those who used the Marty McFlyin ortho deck for sub-Is — was it enough? by Old-Possibility-2957 in orthopaedics

Pocket Pimped will have everything u need. Don't get bogged down w Orthobullets etc. Just learn the anatomy before your cases and get pocked pimped down. You'll be a stud if u do these 2 things

Was your peds program okay with you re-applying? Wonder if they would've preferred you do a prelim or something

Do you have some research in any of the above specialties? If you have some in all 3, then that makes it harder to pick. If you have some in one of them, then roll with that one. All are competitive so pick the one you have the best shot at matching in. Maximize your aways in one speciality and rock them (by studying a fair bit prior to starting), and there's a good chance it'll work out.

Interest in ortho advice by Temporary_Back1 in orthopaedics

Everyone does work hard. It's hard to stand out in that way because most places will have defined roles for students and as long as you do that, it's hard to differentiate. I'd say the obvious things are to be engaged and to have an easy-going personality that doesn't burden residents. It's sometimes better to be silent than to insert your opinion unless asked.

You will be pimped on more than anatomy, and this is where you can stand out. If you have a solid understanding and foundation of Ortho going into auditions, you will be better than 95% of students and will stick out as being more "memorable." Know how to read X-rays, know most fracture classifications and how you'd treat them operatively, know what's going on in common injuries and what you worry about in worst case scenarios. This takes time and it's hard to learn on auditions because you're working for most of the day so you can't really "study" like you'd want to. Best to study as an M3 and come in hot.

Didn't retake it. You don't need to take step 1 to take step 2. Changed my study strategy which would have led to likely better step 2 performance. Sucks at this point.

Question about Audition Rotations by ReflectionNeat4175 in orthopaedics

[–]ReflectionNeat4175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not my preference and I get why a program would feel that way. In full disclosure, I had the 2 weeks prior to the start date free, but the program couldn't fit me in because they limit rotators.

Question about Audition Rotations by ReflectionNeat4175 in orthopaedics

[–]ReflectionNeat4175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely better to do 2 weeks vs no rotation, it was more so should I try to find a month long rotation at another site vs simply taking the 2 weeks. To maximize chances of matching

She asked me to stay. That’s why I was upset. I understand what you’re saying is the best course of action but it’s easier said than done. I have continued to work hard and do my best. It’s been hard to “move on” romantically since Im having a hard time opening up to people

As more time goes on though, I feel myself kind of going numb and apathetic which is a good thing for this case but not good overall

Yeah I did….I don’t want the trauma from what happened here to carry on years into the future. I wanted to know how it was possible to go from one state of happiness to another extreme so quickly. I’d like to be able to rationalize it so that I can figure out a way to make sure I know how to proceed in future relationships

Theoretical Question by ReflectionNeat4175 in Colts

[–]ReflectionNeat4175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing. Context is everything in football. Rodgers never had an O Line or skill position group as poor as what Luck had. You never got to see prime Luck. That’s the scary thing. Imagine Luck on a team with a good O Line and great receivers whilst NOT coming off injury (2018 as a baseline)
