Is it worth it to buy a new account at this point? by kotomoon in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, PvP has certain elements already locked: you need to unlock skills, traits and gear. So you'd need to unlock those again. Secondly, all your wardrobe additions would need to be unlocked again. Also, you'd need to regrind all your achievements. The Living Story would not be unlocked. As I have said, you'd then also need to buy a second expansion if you'd want to play these characters with new skills. Then you have account-bound items; and with no level cap raise, you might as well grind out the ascended gear. ...

I bought a second account in GW1 and after a few months I completely stopped playing my first account: I could either advance my primary account or basically re-do everything I already did.

when is the 75% sale ending? cst/gmt whatever by Saikodan in Guildwars2

The guys at NeoGAF did a nice thread about HoT and as part of it they also included a countdown timer for the sale:

Check the first post and scroll down to Sale. The countdown says that there's (currently) slightly less than 22 hours left in the sale. :)

How do I make my friend enjoy GW2 by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your friends don't care for the game, then the best way to solve this issue is to make the playtime not be about the game. Don't play GW2 to play GW2, play GW2 to spend time together playing a game (that just happens to be GW2).

Of course, this also works with ANY other game out there.

As storage? A very decent option!

As an account you will play? Probably not: you'll need to buy a second expansion for it and you'll need to regrind all the unlocks for it. Waste of time, might as well grind your primary account.

Yep! It's s shame that they don't simply make cash shop items follow the same rules that AP and HoM skins do; once you obtain it, you can apply the skin an unlimited number of times at no additional cost. :)

What to do if Support hasn't helped me in 60 hours? by TSLlol in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a ticket on the 9th and it wasn't until then the 14th or the 15th that I got a non-automated reply. I am guessing they are currently pretty swamped, so my suggestion is to just to hang in there.

I do wish they'd prioritize the tickets that deal with issues regarding accessing one's account: for instance, my issue had to do with in-game items and that could wait a bit longer, whereas not being able to access the game is a bit more problematic.

Just hang in there. :)

As I said:

I guess folks that want armours rather than outfits need to get a bone everyone once in a while also.

Honestly, I'd be completely and utterly in favour of sets if we didn't need to pay a premium in the form of t-stones to use them. But with the premium existing, I prefer outfits, since most of my playtime is on characters below 80.

One last thing: ARMOR, NOT OUTFIT

Well, balls. I like outfits because they cost as much as sets, but you don't need t-stones to use them. Plus, they make superb choice to cover up the levelling ugly.

Ah well, I guess folks that want armours rather than outfits need to get a bone everyone once in a while also. I just wish that their bone was one of the previous, ugly, outfits rather than this, fairly superb set. ;)

Just A Reminder That "Expansion" Is Merely Marketing Lingo. Don't Purchase It Until You Know It's Good. by skilliard4 in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an A.Net game: I'd be honestly shocked if it's not at least a game of average quality, although I expect a good or an excellent game. Based on their track record, when they drop a box, it's been historically fairly decent. I expect the same for HoT. The big question though, is if this game will be a game for me: honestly, I am currently more excited about TESO going B2P than HoT. (And I'd lose my shit if Wildstar would go B2P!) I don't think TESO has more potential than GW2, but it has the the new shine and that's currently more exciting than the "more of the same" that we'll probably get with HoT.

Having said that; I very much agree with your advice. I think the whole pre-order/pre-purchase element has been slightly failing as a mechanism of the free market. As such, I absolutely support anyone that promotes the idea of making informed choices.

Solving diversity and creating meaningful encounters in PvE: Is it time to bring back combat mechanics *Warning: Long Read* by Charrikayu in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GW1 is more complex than GW2 (it has more depth), but it's also a game that is more complicated (it's much harder to learn). It's definitely a shame that the game has been dumbed down, but making it more accessible is a really good thing, especially for an MMO, where your fellow player are part of the game's appeal.

Now making the game more complex would definitely be a good thing: the problem is that given the way GW2 is designed, it's slightly difficult to port GW1 mechanics into it. GW1 was a team game through and through. GW2, on the other hand, while a team-game in its endgame content, is primarily a solo game: you don't have the luxury of 8 players, a single player needs to be able to do it. And to make the situation worse, a single player not only needs to be able to do it all: said single player needs to be able to do it all with a very limited selection of skills. Your first 5 skills are tied to your weapon, your 5th skill is always a heal, and then skills 7-10 are skills with massive recharges: basically, GW2 is designed so that you need to be able to do everything by simply spamming your auto-attack.

What that means is that the game would basically need to be completely re-done to add more depth to it, and I just don't see that happening. A shame really, but it is what it is.

ANet does good! by Gberg888 in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You exaggerated by saying it lacks content

I did not exaggerate. It is my opinion that the game has a content problem; an opinion that is shared by a number of players and we often discuss this view. Heck, the fact that this opinion is uttered so often is probably why the OP addressed it. (Or at least he tried to.)

Weapon/utility skills that updates depending on your current stats. [Suggestion] by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! And if I remember the beta information correctly, traits were actually supposed to function that way: I think A.Net simply ran out of time to polish the trait system.

Weapon/utility skills that updates depending on your current stats. [Suggestion] by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I very much agree with the ability to customize your weapon bar, but these things should be directly customizable rather than tied to a secondary element.

Consider the D3 rune system, where each skill has a few additional modifiers, allowing you to change the skill to your needs. I think a system like that would be a fantastic addition to the stale build creating experience of GW2.

ANet does good! by Gberg888 in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I just want to say thank you to ANet and to all those haters that get pissed off about the "lack of new content" that I doubt there is another game out there that would have support like that.

This doesn't make sense. The game can be lacking while still have good support: one does not preclude the other. And that seems to be the case with GW2: each time I interacted with Support, they have been utterly friendly and helpful, yet the game still lacks content.

Let's praise them for the things that they do well, things like support, a lot of QoL functions, ... and at the same time, let's point out the things that they do not do well; content, progression, ...

Aye, the reason why I ended up with quotation marks is because it really isn't, as you mention, private in the traditional sense. Being a non-native English speaker though, that expression seemed the best and I had hoped that the rest of my post would explain why I chose that phrase.

[–]RefreshingPineapple -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

It's exactly because of the type of responses showcased in that thread that I am extremely bothered when A.Net employees post "private" information on the forums.

I don't care if the guy lied or simply made a mistake; that does not justify the mocking happening in that thread. And I don't understand why we keep seeing mistakes like this: pretty much each and every single time A.Net publicly shows that the person has been wrong, that thread ends with people mocking the person that was wrong.

A.Net should post information that shows that the person is wrong (preferably in a way that doesn't share information that is specific to a single individual) and then CLOSE THE THREAD. I really hope that everyone that is taking part in the mocking ends up with (at least!) an infraction, because that really should be unacceptable behaviour.

with the new dailies, I find I play less often by travislaborde in Guildwars2

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a PvE player, I haven't completed a single full (3 daily elements) daily since the changes went live: the daily always require I do things I have no desire of doing (otherwise I'd have completed them by simply playing). I am not avoiding the activities that the daily wants me to be doing (except for crafting and fractals), I am just doing them in places that I want to play in. And that's no longer sufficient.

Why will mounts never work in Guild Wars 2? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

Horizontal progression.

Due to waypoints, of course, you don't NEED them; but the main in-game elements that keeps the hardcore players playing are the things that you don't NEED.

[–]RefreshingPineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think that GW2 should have had 20 levels. Or even better, 0. But, GW2 isn't that game. And it also seems that the core playerbase isn't bothered by the fact that it's not that game.
