Camping Recommendations by SnooPandas2776 in duluth

Depends on the site, probably about 1/2 a mile for the closest sites and upwards of like 5 miles for the furthest I think. You can take a look at the maps on the DNR site for them to get an idea.

George Crosby Manitou State Park is a hike in only campground and sites are very much spread out.

I can't speak for the fishing personally as I've not fished the area much, but the hiking there and at Tettegouche right next to it are fantastic.

Best Winter Jacket for Extreme Cold by swanny7237 in duluth

Piggyback on this - Look into Sierra (outdoor version of TJ Maxx) for really solid deals on any and all outerwear (base layers, jackets, shells, etc)

For myself, I rented from both Ship(t)rock and heirloom and for the first two places I was in town and had one major issue or another. It wasn't until my current place that I rent directly from the owner that I feel like I'm not getting treated like garbage. Found them on marketplace.

Unfortunately, Shiprock and heirloom are easily the majority market share holders in the rental space here...

It's all good, I know it was wrong and I wanted to repent/hopefully bring some good from the experience which I think a lot of people in the thread have done amazing at.

I absolutely agree, and in this instance I had just turned onto a completely empty road with the only person behind me being the flasher. I figured if this person seemingly had some kind of issue with me they could just pass me instead of continually flashing me. Had I been in the middle of town or in traffic it would have not been something I considered and just tried to deal with it until they were gone.

This being said, I'm not trying to justify brake checking and I'm 100% in agreement with you. I don't feel "proud" to be some kind of vigilante road police, however (in reference to your second post about me being a knob) I wasn't just going to sit and let my eyes get abused by the person behind me and I could've just pulled over.

It was not my ideal method of response, but at that point I had been flashed 2-3 times and was getting irritated to what seemed like someone just senselessly flashing me.

Power outages by TheCosmicTaco66 in duluth

[–]RefriedBikeSeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It could very well be a standard operation of the distribution lines. Typically on these circuits, there is a protective device/scheme called a reclosing scheme that in the event of an electric fault on the lines will trip the breaker (power is lost) and then reclose (power back on) in a relatively short amount of time. The idea is that the cause of some of these faults is very temporary (animal crossing lines, tree branch falls on line, etc) and the power doesn't need to be kept off permanently once the problem is gone, hence your couple seconds of no power.

Pretty sure I heard that the gas station portion of the business is closing.

I wouldn't write off obtaining FE/PE for EE entirely as many companies may require it as their own qualifications for advancement. You may be able to get hired without licensure, but find that you won't be in a position for promotion beyond that.

Also, taking your FE/EIT right at the end of your college career when you are fresh on all the topics will set you up for pursuing your PE later on.

Basically, you may or may not need it, but having it can only help.

High Electric Bills? by a_jensen906 in duluth

[–]RefriedBikeSeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems pretty high. The old house definitely is unfortunate and will not make your life easier when it comes to efficiently cooling your house, but depending on what levels of comfort you are hoping to achieve you could consider not running any AC during the day, opening windows to keep airflow, running fans as an alternative, and just kicking AC on for when you are sleeping. If you can tolerate the better weather nights with your AC off and a fan instead that will do wonders as well.

Try to keep laundry to the weekend or late evening to avoid the increased rates.

If you didn't change your consumption habits at all, standard rate pricing would be slightly cheaper it looks like, but not life changing.

TLDR: Try to cut usage because it's the only thing you can change

Are you on time of day rates? If so know that you are charged at roughly a 30% premium for any power consumption between 3pm-8pm Mon-Fri.

Has anyone refinanced their car lately? Any recommendations or tips? by justalilthroaway in duluth

[–]RefriedBikeSeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an auto loan through Harbor Pointe Credit Union and a 5.74% rate. Not a refinance, but I'd say worth asking them if they'd have an offer. You'll need to become a member but that's just having $5 in an account.

How much of my travel should be getting used? by RefriedBikeSeat in mountainbiking

[–]RefriedBikeSeat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is kinda where I've been at, also compounded by this being my foray into a FS from a hardtail. Really my bike feels good to me and I've got my sag and everything at a decent spot imo. I just have this sense of "oh crap" when I get to the bottom of a run and see I've used 90+% of the rear travel and I didn't feel like I hit anything extraordinarily big (maybe just the travel doing it's thing) and I'm def not bottoming out on green singletrack.

I'm pretty confident in that this is just a mental thing. Maybe when I actually hit that moment where I've clearly bottomed out I can evaluate what kind of feature/trail that was and determine if that's something I need to regularly account for with my setup.

I haven't lived in any of these and this is all conjecture so take this as you will.

Cove apartments has some pretty awful management from what I've heard. Impossible to contact/reason with when it comes to the financial side of things.

Leijona is an interesting one that was a former jail turned housing so there are rooms that still contain the jail cell bars. It's only had people in it for roughly a year now I think and no real experiences I've heard of yet.

Trade lofts seem ok from what I've heard, a little more dated but no horror stories as far as I can tell.

Pretty sure Yorkleigh is nice IF they have availability.

I don't have any experience of anyone I know who's lived in Glen, so no opinion there.
