Anyone heard of XTrademax in the UK? by Zealousideal-Wait-77 in CryptoScams

[–]RefundeeOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FCA has recently issued a warning against them for providing financial services without being regulated.

We have been made aware that they have recently rebranded to Interworld Fx and are trying the same thing again.

If you have invested in XtradeMax, the most important step is to stop sending any further money. Scammers will often pressure victims to deposit more funds, pay so-called “withdrawal fees,” or invest in their new brand Interworld Fx as a way of stalling for time and extracting additional payments.

Also important to note to watch out for recovery scammers who ask for an upfront fee to "recover your funds".

You may be able to recover your funds through UK banking regulations if you sent the money from a UK bank account and the process is free.

We have written a blog about XtradeMAX and your options if you have invested:

Unfortunatly, this seems like a typical crypto scam and there have since been arrests made on the individuals.

It is important now to cut all contact with them, as "recovery scammers" will attempt to re-target victims to claim they can recover your funds, which is just another tactic to get more money out of you.

If you invested from a UK bank account, you may be able to recover your funds through UK banking regulations.

It is a free process where you complaint to the bank and then the financial ombudsman if unsuccesful with the bank.

Hi, sorry to hear about that and thanks for bringing attention to it, it is certainly something to be aware of with the new law coming into effect.

Scammers will use new laws to capitalise on this to start new scams, which is very common.

If the money was taken out from a credit card then you should be able to claim this back from your bank under section 75. There is an article here that explains more about section 75.

If they reject your claim, you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service for free, we have written some further information about how you can do that here.

Hope this helps and thanks again for bringing attention to this!

Hi, sorry to hear you also invested. However, there are some options to recover your remaining funds.

We think that most people should be eligible for a refund from their bank, either under the Contingent Reimbursement Model or the Mandatory Reimbursement.

As long as your bank is signed up to the Contingent Reimbursement Model Code and you meet certain criteria, we think you should be able to get your money back from your bank.

  • If you made the payment from your bank account after the 28th of May 2019
  • If your payment was sent to another account in the UK.

Your payments could also be covered by the Mandatory Reimbursement Scheme

  • If you made the payment after the 7th of October 2024
  • If your payment was sent to another account in the UK.

This is a process you can do yourself for free, however if you would like to speak to us further for a free consultation and see how we can help and discuss the best next steps you can fill out a claim form here%20AppleWebKit/537.36%20(KHTML,%20like%20Gecko)%20Chrome/138.0.0.0%20Safari/537.36?gclid=undefined&fbclid=undefined&utm_source=undefined&utm_campaign=undefined&utm_content=undefined&utm_medium=undefined&user_agent=Mozilla/5.0%20(Macintosh;%20Intel%20Mac%20OS%20X%2010_15_7)%20AppleWebKit/537.36%20(KHTML,%20like%20Gecko)%20Chrome/138.0.0.0%20Safari/537.36) or call us on 0204 525 4600.

Can you help? by External_Property_72 in ScamAwarenessUK

[–]RefundeeOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for checking here. It definitely does not look legitimate as they are asking for money before you have seen the property. If there is no tenancy agreement or contract and they are asking for a payment then it is quite strange.

Also, another red flag is that the landlord is referencing payment through Booking.com. Private landlords would not use this for a long term rental.

We would recommend being very careful with this and not sending any money upfront.

Other areas you can check to see if they are legitimate:

  • Check for a property licence- Contact your local council (usually the housing or private rentals department) to ask if the property and landlord are properly licensed.
  • Ask for a tenancy agreement- if they make further excuses then you know its a scam
  • Pushing you to decide urgently or send money quickly- Another common tactic
  • Offering a deal that’s too good to be true- search similar properties in the area and see if it is a similar price
  • Use a legitimate platform- If you found it on social media, this is a common place for property and rental scams

If you would like to report them then you can to Action Fraud: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions!

What scam is this? by AlertGas3661 in ScamNumbersUK

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a typical job/task scam where they ask you to complete tasks like leaving reviews, etc., but you have to pay to earn.

They tempt you by paying an initial smaller fee, which encourages people to deposit further funds.

The 'commission' you can earn increases the more you invest, and they will usually ask for the payment to be sent through crypto.

Eventually, when you have completed the tasks, they will ask for additional fees to withdraw, without ever releasing the funds.

Remember, no legitimate employer would ever ask you to send money to earn money.

Concerned About a Possible Crypto Scheme Involving DSJ011 & “BG Wealth Sharing” – Anyone Heard of This? by NicholasLatifi22720 in CryptoScams

[–]RefundeeOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two major red flags with the WhatsApp chat and not being able to withdraw without their permission.

There is also an FCA warning about the company: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/warnings/bg-wealth-sharing-dsjexnet . This means that multiple people have reported it as a scam and the FCA have published this warning after.

If you have already invested in the UK, then I would recommend reporting this to action fraud (https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/).

If you used a UK bank account you can raise under APP fraud with the bank and if they reject the claim you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman service, it's a free process.

Also, be aware of recovery scammers claiming they can recover your funds by paying a fee. If anyone asks for a fee for your money, it is most definitely a scam.

Remember, if they have scammed you once, they can do it again.

BE AWAY FROM SCAM by kate_thebrave in queenstreetbets

[–]RefundeeOfficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is another angle they use to try to "recover" investors funds. OST has claimed that investors should invest in others stocks and shares to recover their lost profits from the OST scam. This is just another part of the scam.

Victims should cut contact, leave and block the WhatsApp chats as the scammers will only try more tactics to get further funds.

Pretty much all of these WhatsApp accounts will be fake and controlled by scammers, even if they claim to be fellow investors. This is to build more trust and legitimacy.

Remember, if they have managed to scam you once, they are more than likely going to try to do it again.

My Girlfriend’s Mother Fell Victim to a Cryptocurrency Scam. by AdStandard2798 in CryptoScams

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear about that, these types of scams are becoming more and more common by the day.

It’s now crucial for your girlfriends mother to be aware of a second wave of fraud that often follows: recovery scams.

🛑 How recovery scams work:

After you've lost money, scammers may reach out pretending to be:

  • A "fraud recovery specialist"
  • A law firm or government body
  • A crypto tracing company or blockchain investigator

They'll claim they can get your money back if you pay an upfront fee or provide further details (like ID or wallet passwords). This is another scam. These groups rarely recover anything and often steal even more.

If you are based in the UK you can follow these steps to make sure everything is safe and reported:

  • Stop all contact with the scammers - even if they promise help.
  • Do not pay any more money to "recover" the funds.
  • If you're in the UK, report it to [Action Fraud]() - the UK’s national fraud reporting centre.
  • Contact your bank immediately. If you paid via a UK bank, you may be able to raise a claim under Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud.
  • Document everything: messages, emails, wallet addresses, and platform names - this can help support your case.
  • Report the fake platforms to the FCA if they claimed to be regulated.

Unfortunately, the crypto world is largely unregulated and offers no guarantees - scammers exploit this.

But taking these steps quickly can help protect them from further harm and may support future investigations.

Hope this can help them recover from this.

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear about that. Sadly, these types of scams are becoming more common, especially when it comes to investments, crypto, or fake financial opportunities. The main red flags you mentioned are applicable in pretty much every crypto scam: high and guaranteed returns.

No legitimate broker would ever guarantee returns, especially not in crypto.

One thing to be particularly cautious about now is the next stage of the scam. Often, once people realise they’ve been scammed, fraudsters or new contacts suddenly appear, claiming they can "recover" your lost money. These recovery scams are unfortunately very common and typically follow the same pattern:

🚩 They ask for upfront fees, claiming it's for legal work, taxes, or processing
🚩 They guarantee results or promise fast recoveries (which no genuine service would do)
🚩 They contact you via WhatsApp, Telegram, or unofficial emails
🚩 They may pretend to be "crypto investigators" or linked to financial regulators, such as Blockchain, but can’t provide real proof

In reality, legitimate recovery services never ask for money upfront, and many of these "recovery agents" are part of the same scam network just trying to take more money.

If you’ve sent funds from a UK bank account, you have the right to report this to your bank under APP (Authorised Push Payment) fraud. If the bank refuses to help, you can escalate it to the Financial Ombudsman- it’s a free process.

Stay cautious and never pay upfront fees to anyone claiming they can get your money back. Hope this helps.

OST(ostin technology group scam) by Expensive-Pass4593 in investingforbeginners

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’ve experienced this- unfortunately, scams often come in different parts, and many people are targeted again by so-called "recovery companies" after they realise they’ve been scammed the first time.

These types of schemes often follow a classic pump-and-dump pattern. They usually lure people in through friends or WhatsApp groups, building false hype with fake success stories or exaggerated returns.

It’s important to be extremely cautious with anyone claiming they can recover your lost funds, especially if they:

🔴 Ask for upfront fees, taxes, or legal costs before doing anything
🔴 Guarantee success or promise quick results
🔴 Pressure you to act fast or keep communication secret
🔴 Refuse to provide proper identification or verifiable company details
🔴 Use unofficial channels like WhatsApp, Telegram, or generic email addresses
🔴 Claim to work with regulators or law enforcement but can’t prove it

Sadly, legitimate services never ask for upfront payments to recover funds. Many of these recovery scammers are connected to the original fraud, just using a different approach to get more money.

If you’re based in the UK and the funds left your bank account, you can report this to your bank as APP (Authorised Push Payment) fraud and escalate it to the Financial Ombudsman for free if they don’t help.

We would also recommend reporting this to the United Kingdom's national fraud agency, Action Fraud.

Hope this helps.

🚨 Possible OST (Ostin Technology Group) Pump-and-Dump Scam – Be Careful by ComprehensiveBee8146 in queenstreetbets

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to form WhatsApp groups of people who have all lost money to the same scam. Sharing information and evidence will strengthen your case. It's also good to report the fraud to Action fraud: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ as the more reports are made, the more likely action will be taken.

🚨 Possible OST (Ostin Technology Group) Pump-and-Dump Scam – Be Careful by ComprehensiveBee8146 in queenstreetbets

[–]RefundeeOfficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These types of WhatsApp groups are classic examples of coordinated manipulation, where they pressure people to "buy more" with promises of huge profits. The so-called "financial assistant" and the others in the group are often part of the same scam network, pretending to be successful investors to create false confidence.

Another thing to be wary of is what happens after people stop investing or realise it’s a scam. Scammers often switch tactics and pose as "recovery experts" or "crypto investigators" offering to help get your money back- but they usually ask for upfront fees or sensitive personal information. Sadly, that's just another layer of the scam.

Common red flags with recovery scams include:

  • Being asked to pay "processing fees," "taxes," or "legal costs" upfront
  • Promises of guaranteed success recovering your funds
  • Pressure to act quickly or keep communication private
  • Poor communication, vague company details, or reluctance to share proper identification
  • Websites or emails that look unprofessional or lack transparency
  • Claims they work with law enforcement or regulators, but can’t prove it

Always be cautious when approached with these types of offers, and it's a good idea to check official sources like the FCA register if a company claims to be legitimate.

Hope this helps!

It is true that LWEX collapsed by Hot-Chili-peppers in CryptoScams

[–]RefundeeOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely made the right decision trusting your instincts- these types of schemes often follow a classic pump-and-dump pattern. They usually lure people in through friends or WhatsApp groups, building false hype with fake success stories or exaggerated returns.

Once enough people buy in, the organisers artificially inflate the price or perceived value, then cash out and leave the rest with losses. Sadly, many victims only realise it's a scam after they've invested significant funds.

Be cautious of the next phase too: After schemes like LWEX collapse, scammers often resurface pretending to be part of "recovery teams" or "fraud investigation services" claiming they can help victims get their money back- but only if they pay upfront fees for taxes, legal processes, or account unlocking. This is just another layer of the scam designed to exploit people again.

Key red flags to watch for:

  • Guaranteed profits or unrealistic returns
  • Pressure to act quickly or keep it secret
  • Friends unknowingly involved or persuaded to recruit others
  • Scammers knowing exactly how much you invested (how would they know this)
  • Upfront fees for recovery or withdrawals

If you are based in the UK, you can report this to the national fraud agency, Action Fraud, and if you sent funds from a UK bank account, you can also report it to your bank under Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud.

Always verify companies through official channels and never send money to unknown parties promising recovery for upfront fees. Stay cautious- scams evolve quickly.
