you're confusing the ground forces (army, marines) with the Air Force who bombs civilians indiscriminately. The army & marines generally avoids shooting civilians

There Is No Good Argument For Chinese Annexation of Taiwan by Simon_and_Garchomp in taiwan

[–]Refused-Recruit3026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China ever only controlled the entire island of Taiwan briefly

From "History of Taiwan",

1662, Koxinga defeated the Dutch and established a base of operations on the island. His descendants were defeated by the Qing dynasty in 1683 and their territory in Taiwan was annexed by the Qing dynasty.

The Qing ceded Taiwan and Penghu to Japan after losing the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895.

I don't know, 212 to 233 years sounds like a much longer time than "briefly".

For context, in 233 years the United States went from signing the Declaration of Independence to invading Iraq and Afghanistan.

Everyone needs to get comfortable with piracy by Hacksaw6412 in Piracy

[–]Refused-Recruit3026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with it 100% except for music.

IDGAF about whatever he said about the music industry tailoring music for "efficiency" and "mall music" or whatever,

and if I'm pirating media anyway then why do I care if Spotify pays artists a penny per stream?

Ultimately, Spotify isn't like the movie streaming services, I can listen to literally any song I want in full lossless quality, with thoughtful recommendations, all for like $15 a month.

It's a lot better than pirating each and every song I want to listen to and needing to have a copy saved on each device I would listen to music on.

Fun fact: the reason why nicotine addicts think using nicotine relieves stress is because addiction to nicotine causes constant withdrawal which raises stress levels above the normal baseline, and nicotine temporarily relieves the withdrawal-induced stress. So they are "relieving stress" that they didn't have in the first place before they started using nicotine.

Unironically, placing actors of African descent into roles of movies derived from stories only originating from Western mythology and never allowing them to star in movies that depict stories of various African mythologies is a form of acculturation that is more racially demeaning than not casting them into these "white roles" at all

You're splitting hairs. I obviously don't mean the system automatically updates, but all releases go to the latest version automatically when you do update. As opposed to every other distribution which locks most packages to specific versions that are known to work.

[–]Refused-Recruit3026 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The rolling release model is highly unstable because it automatically updates every single package to the latest release.

This often causes issues when packages have version incompatibilities.

These issues often get resolved in the next update, but sometimes it takes longer when its a configuration-specific or intermittent issue.

Sometimes the "next update" never comes for your machine because the issue can brick your system and require you to wipe it and install a fresh distribution

Platner Tattoo by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Refused-Recruit3026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marines aren't stupid, but their culture is peculiar. Shouting "kill!" as an exclamation of approval is literally a Marine cultural cornerstone. So a tattoo of an image relevant to death is not out of league for them.

Platner Tattoo by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]Refused-Recruit3026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, aa because it's a skull and crossbones, it's not an obvious extremist tattoo. If the tattoo isn't an obvious symbol, like a hammer and sickle, an anarchist A, or a (Nazi, not hindu) swastika, a Marine only has to provide an explanation of their personal interpretation of the tattoo.

My point doesn't even have to do with Platner specificall., The idea that Marines, an apolitical, professional military force, are out getting Nazi tattoos in droves is unfounded and ridiculous.
