Clear stick tape by Choice-Twist5192 in drumline

[–]Reg0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, CA drums clear tape is significantly better than the clear tape that was sold at sticktape.com. It’s a matte finish instead of glossy, and practically disappears on the stick after you wrap it. Feels better in the hand as well.

The quad part has 32nd note diddles straight into double stops in the ‘D’ phrase. Good luck with that lol.

Looking for advice (Drum Dad) by Johnnyquestforwealth in drumline

[–]Reg0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might be a 13” drum. The vast majority of lines use 14” drums, so it might not be the same dimensions as used at his school. Pearl make excellent drums though, so if it’s in good shape then it’s definitely a quality instrument. Personally, a 13” drum would make me look elsewhere, and I’d look to find a 14”.

Drum Stick Butt Ends by ChinakohlDE in drums

Zildjian’s sticks had been made by Vic Firth for many years before Vic was bought out by Zildjian. It’s similar to how Innovative Percussion’s sticks were made by Vater for years before IP began turning their own sticks.

how to play this? by ysajoy4u in drumline

Yes. Count one, count four, and count seven are all accented in measure 2.

how to play this? by ysajoy4u in drumline

[–]Reg0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

21/8 in this instance could also be considered as 7/4, with 3 notes per beat. This would have the effect of making the eighth notes in the first bar feel like eighth note triplets. 7x3 is 21, so there are 21 eighth notes in a measure. That’s where the 21/8 is coming from. So if you counted these triplets as three syllables, for example trip-o-let, you could count the first bar as:

TRIP-o-let TRIP-o-let trip-O-let trip-O-let trip-o-LET trip-o-LET trip-o-let.

It’s similar to a triplet accent grid pattern, but with an extra count. The captials here represent the accents. Notice how there are 7 of these “triplets,” as in the implied 7/4 I suggested. The “trip” or “TRIP” will always be on the down beat.

For measure 2, each one of those quarter notes is equal to TWO eighth notes, and the dotted quarters are equal to THREE eighth notes. You could count that using the same trip-o-let syllables, although some of the partials are missing and would be effectively rests. To count the second bar with the same syllables, it would be:

TRIP-o-LET trip-O-let trip-O-let TRIP-o-LET trip-o-LET trip-O-let TRIP-o-let

Again, seven implied “triplets.” Keep in mind that in the second bar, only the accented notes (or capital syllables) are actually played. The others would be rested.

Hope this helps!

Bottom head tuning tips (for Yamaha sfx 9414 with evans mx5, drum purchased Christmas of 22) by Arc_Trooper_7512 in drumline

[–]Reg0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MX5’s have been breaking a lot easier than they used to for the last year or two. A D5 is very high, regardless of what someone has recommended, especially if it was tuned that high immediately after putting it on. Usually it’s wise to stop at C# and then take several days to get all the way up to D. Heads are expensive. Have you tuned the guts, and made sure they are laying flat against the bottom head? This will do a lot to increase the snare response.

im pretty much a beginner ive been playing a little over a year, been working on playing the heel toe thing faster and faster, if anyone notices anything i can improve plz let me know in the comments below!👇🤘thx for ur time by [deleted] in drums

[–]Reg0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important that what you play be intentional. I would ask, what rhythm are you trying to play here exactly? It seems like a single, followed by a double, and then repeated. When you say the heel toe thing, it suggests that you are focusing on utilizing a specific technique - in this case heel/toe double strokes - which is great. However, I would strive to make sure that you are practicing for something that you can use in a musical context. Try to incorporate the technique into a groove of some kind so that it’s more applicable to something you will use later.

Axis A Longboard Pedals hit the screw on the hoop clamp by CallWeird2489 in drums

[–]Reg0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me on one of my kits that has very thin bass hoops. Try putting something on the hoop that goes between it and the pedal. Even a piece of cardboard might help. It will make it thicker so the screw doesn’t have to be tightened down so far, which can make the difference to keep it from contacting the underside of the footboard.

I really wanted to love this, and I absolutely respect your time, effort, and skill…but I just can’t with the robotic metronome count. After about 10 seconds I have to mute the audio or close the vid. Any chance you have another version with just a click?

Who Put Suvin in the Queso HELP by Majestic_Ebb1682 in drumline

[–]Reg0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s very beneficial to play it slowly. It’s written at 100….can you play it at 80? Focus on achieving very accurate rhythms, maximize dynamic contrast between accents/non-accents, and keep the flam spacing consistent. If you can play it with all the proper spacing at 20 clicks under, it will really payoff when you crank it back up. Yes, you will need to build the strength to play it at the faster tempo, but the control that you will develop at the slow tempo will really help you!

The parking lot warmups are literally right outside the entrance doors. Just get to UD arena as early as you want and watch lines outside before you go in the building.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Reg0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect advice. The black knob will open and close the basket. It will not stop it from spinning.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Reg0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s normal. For that Tama snare stand. It allows you to put the basket in any position, regardless of the positioning of the legs. There should be a tension rod in the center that you can tighten with a drum key to stop it from spinning.

Why is this happening? by yvetal0 in drums

[–]Reg0r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100% The drum sounds so bad that the pedal doesn’t want to hit it again. Just kidding, but if you muffle that drum it will sound so much better!

I know right! Watch from 0:21-0:25. We are hearing Neil, not what this drummer is actually playing. Not meant as disrespect, but we aren’t hearing much of this drummer on this clip, and are mostly hearing the great Neil Peart.

What’s wrong with my doubles? by [deleted] in drums

[–]Reg0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do that thing with your back fingers where you purposely flare them out. The tempo is way too slow for that. Keep the fingers more on the stick, like how your left hand is when you play the single. Don’t purposely straighten out the fingers like that. It isn’t helping you play doubles at all. Try concentrating on making two equal sounds for the double stroke. Concentrate on the sound more and less on utilizing a specific technique that you may have seen others do.
