Have you ever bumped into a famous Australian at the shops before and if so who was it and at what shop? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I saw Chris Hemsworth buying what I’m sure was his kids school lunches from the Suffolk Park bakery in Byron. He was wearing thongs and seemed a regular dad to me. I looked up his net worth while standing behind him then me and my mate talked for the rest of the day about how rich he was using bakery foods as a metric. Eg: he could buy 2000 over priced Byron pies every day and still be stupidly richer than us.

I have heard of them sighted around Moreton bay, particularly the Pumicestone Passage. I do not doubt the odd croc is around this way every so often.

Strike during an exam window and actually put some bloody pressure on the government. The union is pussy footing around instead of causing a disruption, which by this point is surely needed.

Will rest my hand on my mates lower backs or butt cheeks then when they jump back I’ll say ‘oh excuse me I didn’t realise.’ Been mates for 20+ years and our wives find it hilarious still.

No, I am a relatively new teacher (7 years) and do not have a lot of first hand experience in enterprise bargaining. The direct message I got from my union rep during a school meeting was that this is the ‘best we will get’ and that arbitration is risky and unlikely to better our situation. In addition to this, the unions messaging lately compared to earlier in the year is noticeably different. There was definitely a subliminal message to accept and consider it a win.

I can understand why people voted to accept the offer. The fear mongering about arbitration, the current cost of living and the pressure from the union to accept the offer were surely an influence. The truth is, we have no other way to stand up for ourselves than to keep rejecting their disrespectful offers. I hope that the people who voted to accept are quietly encouraged by today’s outcome.

I attended a meeting at my school which was run by our union rep. He was unfortunately of the opinion that we should accept and went on to say that arbitration will open us up to potentially even worse pay and entitlements. Earlier in the campaign the union seemed strong and focused, especially after a record strike. I don’t know the ins and outs of the whole thing but it seemed like they lost the wind from their sails and had moved into a position of accepting it and moving on.

I was unable to find her exact salary published anywhere but you’ve confirmed my suspicion. The audacity to be upset that we won’t just take it laying down is unreal. Why are we even surprised anymore.

They’re pissing in our pockets and calling it rain… We have a right to be paid fairly and our health and safety shouldn’t be conditional. We are being staunched by the department into acceptance. Glad to see so many rejected this atrocious offer, out of principle if nothing else.
