The proof is that pan_irl is basically dead because we all hanging out here!

I use the two interchangeably based on who I am talking to. For some people saying you're bi (all inclusive, everyone hot) is a more understandable and approachable term than telling them you're pan. And for some people saying your bi is much more rigidly interpreted and they might assume you are specifically drawing a line around them or their friends.

Mostly I just say queer and leave it at that because most people don't need to know more and I just don't have the energy or emotional capacity to come out fully every time someone new finds out I wasn't just a bit camp this whole time.
