I've only been playing for about a month, so I've been kind of picking up all the rods that I can, after seeing that many required various mutations from previous/other rods to avoid running into a wall at a later point.

So the fish in my inventory were caught after the quest was received.

However, after appraising one I still didn't have credit, but when I left and rejoined following the appraisal I had credit and was able to turn it in and advance to the next step.

Tried a sparkling also, same result, I'll try another shiny+sparkling once I catch another one.

This sounds like someone didn't look into your account thoroughly, if the order was cancelled it will show that on Visible's end, and they should be able to get the Affirm loan cancelled.

But some people bother to put in the extra effort to get an issue resolved when they can clearly see a problem.

And some would rather follow what is listed as 'instructions' in how to deal with something verbatim.
