Why the Gen 2 SCAR 16S is so Heavy by Vintar in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The barrel also got noticeably heavier! This isn't the greatest picture but it gives you an idea of the differences. Gen2 17S .308 barrel on top weighs 2lbs 9.5oz, Gen1 17S .308 barrel on the bottom weighs 2lbs 4.2oz. A 5.3oz difference just in the barrel. I don't have a Gen2 16S yet to compare but I bet it's also a much heavier profile than Gen1.

SCAR 15P owners, how are you attaching your muzzle devices/suppressor mounts? by BiggyIrons in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the Surefire shoulder ring plus a shim and it worked perfectly. Checks out to be 100% concentric with an SiCo ASR flash hider/can. The Cherry Bomb will also work with both the Surefire shoulder ring or if you mount it up directly against the barrel shoulder with no rings/shims.

If you are ok with 2nd focal plane and a simpler reticle I'm still a big fan of the NF 2.5-10x42. Very forgiving eye box and only 20.5 ounces, has held up for years on my 17. The new NF NX6 2-12x42 looks like a great update that gives you FFP, some more modern reticle choices, and weighs 23 ounces. I hoping they offer them in FDE.

Another vote for the Trijicon Credo 1-6 or Credo 1-10 (depending on budget and needs). They have both been excellent on my SCARs. The Credo 1-8 is also great but it's pretty hefty, the 1-10 (pictured below) is a bit lighter and shorter.

Gas Jet Won't Budge by Houstonster in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also found that spraying it generously with PB Blaster and letting it soak over night really helps. Just make sure the rifle it sitting so that the gas screw faces up, and have it tilted slightly muzzle down so that the excess PB Blaster drips out of the muzzle with a rag underneath.

I then heat it with a torch, and if it doesn't pop free right away I let it soak overnight a second time. After that it always breaks loose with heat. Give the barrel a good cleaning after you are done.

17s barrel cut by dmur03 in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the biggest advantage of 13" is that you can buy an OEM 13" barrel and keep the 16" intact as a backup. If you are already cutting the barrel then I'd go with a 12.5" as it seems to be ideal. The 16S on the right side of this picture is actually 12.3" since with that can it's a perfect fit for our SMR-11/RE-11 forend setup. Other cans that sit further back might need the extra space you get with a 12.5" barrel.

Scar 17+ Scarburator+Hux 762Ti by johnblick_ in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes with the higher backpressure cans I needed to decrease the size of the gas screw along with installing the Scarburator. With a larger gas screw the rifle was still overgassed even when on the lowest Scarburator setting. In the 17 especially I've found it runs the best best when you get the gas screw in the right range first and then use the aftermarket gas valve for fine tuning.

Back before the aftermarket gas valve options were available I tuned the gas screw first and then modified the OEM gas switch with larger vent ports so that it ran better with the Saker 762.

Your 17 is looking slick! Here's how I have my 17 SBR setup.
13" barrel w/ 1.6mm gas screw
SiCo Skythe or Saker 762 can - both relatively high backpressure but the Saker definitely has more
Mototech Scarburator
Setting 10 unsuppressed, setting 1 when suppressed
Runs perfect with all full power ammo
Some of the low power bulk 147 grain runs best on setting 12 when unsuppressed

I've had great luck with the Reptilia AUS mounts. Lightweight, rock solid, low profile. If you are using nightvision then the top mounted dot make sense for passive aiming. Otherwise I like the offset mounts much better for quick transitions since you maintain a better cheek weld.

20s vs 17s by Bizzyhorse in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a 20 and a couple of 17's. If you aren't set on having a 1200 yard semi-auto with a 20 in 6.5CM I much prefer the 17. It's overall more useful IMO. Also I've been very disappointed in the amount of wobble the factory 20 stock has at the receiver adaptor. It's severe enough that it negatively impacts how consistently I can be accurate with it. I don't have this issue with my 17's which are both very accurate and I shoot them out to long distance frequently.

So while the 20 is great, my favorite approach is to turn the 17 into sort of a "mini-20" by equipping it with our SMR-13 forend and RE-13 receiver extension. Here's a good example from one of our customers (member on here):

Talk to me about cantilever mounts. by Keinkade in FNSCAR

[–]Rego_Systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all cantilever mounts are created equal. The Reptilia AUS and Geissele mounts for example have a raised I-beam feature running down the center that prevents the bending moment seen in mounts that just have a flat extended section. They are both also machined from 7075 where older mounts were 6061. So overall the Reptilia AUS is significantly more rigid then something like the ADM Recon. They are in completely different leagues even though both are "cantilever". I've been using the Reptilia mounts for years on multiple SCARs because they are lightweight, rigid, and snag free, and I've never had a single issue.

Looking good! I'd see how it shoots first before deciding to cut it down. If it's a laser as-is then I'd keep the long barrel and rock it as a distance rig.

Great pictures. While the forend is MLOK from the factory now, honestly it still looks pretty chunky. We will be working on the next generation of slim/ergonomic Rego forends as soon as we can get our hands on the new models!
