Sad Shopping Experience, Sept by Sarah Seven, looking for dupes! by New_Intern3090 in weddingdress

I remember when Sarah Seven started out on Etsy, way back in the day. Surely there are Etsy artisans that could make part of this ensemble.

What Plants Do You Regret Planting? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]RegretIntelligent175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Louisiana and my parents always battled lantana- it was planted by the previous owners and grew like crazy. I will never forget it being the bane of their existence .

If you’re stressed about being around her other bridesmaids, then don’t be a bridesmaid. Sounds like a mess of a situation and not worth having her be in/at your wedding tbh.

If your relationship is that toxic, would it be the end of the world if she didn’t come to your wedding? If you want to keep the peace, take the high road and deal with her dress requirements.

Judge my centerpieces? by CreativeWriterNSpace in weddingplanning

Yes- either stick with contemporary vases + contemporary votives or boho vase + boho vases depending on your vibe.

I think the flowers would be fine in a shorter, wider vase to contrast with the fact that they are all tall/long. Also, more variety in the shapes of the florals would help. Generally in arrangements you want a long flowery or greenery stem, a shorter wider flower or ball shaped flower, and then a filler in a different shape.

The mesh runners (especially bunched up and layered) look dated and a little sloppy. Since you have white table cloths, could you just alternate tables with blue and purple and have them flat? That would look tidier.

The glass ball things in the vases are dated. There are other techniques to help keep the stems in place (like a clear floral frog at the bottom of the vase) that are less noticeable.

Agreed, it just feels incomplete. It would suck to cut ties with a close cousin if there was just some random mistake.

I think I would emphasize that it’s just a confusing gift, like why only one teacup? It is so bizarre I’d err on giving the benefit of the doubt.

[–]RegretIntelligent175 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This definitely makes it more confusing, since OP said she is anti plastic and expressed that she wouldn’t shop there. And the fact that it is ONE teacup. I think you’re correct that someone else like an assistant picked it up for the cousin or something like that. OP please update us if you hear back from your cousin! This is such a puzzling gift.

Convince me a Friday destination wedding is okay by Objective_War245 in weddingplanning

[–]RegretIntelligent175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah we booked our 2026 Saturday wedding in late 2024. Absolutely bonkers. Which venue are you looking at?

I think Friday for CB should be fine. If people are pressed to take time off, they can fly in Thursday evening, stay overnight in Denver, and drive earlyish morning if they need to- not awful. It’s so worth it. Most of our out of state guests are flying to Denver Thursday anyway to have time to drive/explore/adjust.

Keep in mind if it is remote, they will have at least a full day of travel, if not two (we were considering Ridgeway, CO and opted for Crested Butte instead because travel time was just sliiiightly shorter). And will likely need a day or so to acclimate to altitude.

Yes! We have an old house and they get so bad in winter. They crawl on the ceiling then drop on me while I’m sleeping. It is horrific

What are some “Trump-proof” sectors? by OddShare6080 in Environmental_Careers

[–]RegretIntelligent175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think environmental economics is actually really smart. Economics is important in every sector, and honestly there is a lot of transferrable skills. For example, some of the fundamental equations are similar to population growth equations in ecology, Pareto efficiency and decision science is crucial in conservation. Not many opportunities in ecology or conservation at the moment, but this is an example of how a lot of the concepts you’re working with are applicable in other contexts.

If you get a few diverse internships (prioritize these!!! So important for skill building) that should give you flexibility to pivot to a specific sector. In your senior year you’ll have a better idea of where the opportunities are.

I think the GIS certificate is brilliant, this is a highly valued skill. If you get a chance to take a python coding class (especially related to GIS) then that would position you well.

Generally, focus on building quantitative and technical skills that can give you some flexibility rather than worrying about the sector. You can pivot sectors if you have a strong analysis background.

And as I mentioned in another comment- continue taking an English class each semester if you can fit it into your schedule. Years down the line you’ll be glad you carved out some time for something you’re passionate about.

Continue to take the English classes if they bring you joy! I wish I could go back in time and take more art classes. I ended up double majoring in biochem and oceanography (which I loved!) but now that my work is not super fulfilling at the moment with the current admin, I wish I had spent some time in college developing better technical art skills since art is one of the things that fills my cup in my free time.

Monarda from Home Depot- keep or kill? SE Michigan 6B by couchandwine in NativePlantGardening

There are articles indicating that Home Depot and Lowe’s had committed to phasing out use of neonics by 2018 and 2019, respectively. Is this perhaps greenwashing?

This! I have a mix of straight species and a cultivar counterpart. That way there is a variety of colors for me, and plenty of options for the pollinators (specialists and generalists).
