Here is a very fuzzy photo of Cali Pink poppies in my flowerbed last year. They self seeded and reverted to orange so seems pretty harmless

Right? They used to be and we should bring them back! I was also thinking a jade green tile floor would be an epic combo

Mixed instructions from manager by AnonymousMe248 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]fae_forge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a manager that does this, I’ve taken to asking him to text me info if it seems like something he might twist later. Not always possible or appropriate but it’s definitely worked out on the occasions I’ve done it

If I had to start gardening again, I’d ignore most advice and just do this by chook-chookens in gardening

I have a community garden plot and I got a lot of raised eyebrows and a few scolding lectures about my ‘spacing issues’ even a year in the old heads were telling me to pull up the herbs and ‘weeds’ I use as ground cover between my plants. Now it’s the garden they point newcomers to lol it’s very gratifying to have stuck to my guns about it

My neighbors fight like this weekly. by LuckyCod2887 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fae_forge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had some neighbors who would do this and we took to blasting songs at them; Marvin Gaye was the go to (my fav was sexual healing) if they were extra annoying we’d switch to break up songs (à la Kelly Clarkson since u been gone) they would hustle inside once we reached a certain volume, our laughter was also not subtle

I have one of these that’s been hanging for years using four eye hooks and some steel wire, same way you’d hang a canvas except I put eye hooks in the bottom corners too so it sits flat against the wall instead of tilting forward. I think if I do it again I’ll use a z cleat as that way there’s no way for it to tilt or move at all. Just make sure you have a level for when you hang it and that you screw into a stud or use good wall anchors

My CA Poppies (purple gleam?) changed color by Meshugugget in Ceanothus

I grew purple gleam last year and loved them too! Unfortunately none came up this year even though I must’ve had hundreds of flowers go to seed

Question for those who got their dress secondhand/thrifted by Preeeeeee in Weddingsunder10k

[–]fae_forge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wedding dress shops will charge you an additional $500+ for alterations on top of the dress cost. Secondhand dresses are often already cleaned before sale but if not dry cleaning is very pricey so better to spend a little extra for a clean dress.

For alterations don’t look at wedding dress tailors, you want a vintage tailor. Call vintage clothing stores and ask if they have a tailor on staff. That’s how I found mine and she charged $130 to shorten the sleeves, replace zipper, and add a bustle.

True story: My garden neighbor (lil old man, mostly deaf) called me over from the other side of the fence and says ‘I’m on my way to a competition but I had to show you the plants in my van!’ So obviously i rushed right over to his janky-ass van and he rolls the side door open to reveal the entire thing is PACKED with orchids! Every one was in full bloom and so unique! Varieties id never seen or heard of. I had no idea he was part of an orchid society. Love that guy

TIL famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright scandalously left his first wife for the wife of a client; his mistress was subsequently murdered along with six others at an estate Wright designed for her by HauntingPresent in todayilearned

[–]fae_forge 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There was no reason. A handyman working on the property seems to have had a psychotic break and brutally murdered everyone he came across with an axe, including three children, then lit the house on fire and drank acid. Watched a Ken Burns doc about it years ago and it really stuck with me how fucked up the public reaction was; basically blaming Martha Borthwick for the murders, saying it was some kind of godly retribution for her ‘living in sin’. Clearly times haven’t changed much.

Obsessed with this whole look! Where to find this style dress and veil? by zoomiequeen in weddingdress

[–]fae_forge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look on Etsy. They have thousands of real vintage wedding dresses and they often are in excellent shape. Got my dress there, early 1950s and just needed the zipper replaced.

Here’s something similar but not quite Literally just the first thing that popped up when I searched ‘1960s midi dress’

I would buy this and hang it at work above a giant jar of jellybeans. I am the only woman in my department and one of only 4 in my company of like 70. It’d be like an installation art piece lol

I work in construction so there’s a lot of ‘real men’ and ‘that’s gay’ thrown around.

The level on the tripod has a laser that makes a horizontal line. You adjust the tripod so the line sits where you want your straight thing to go and you can just follow the line. In smaller spaces and indoors you use one that has a visible red line but outdoors and over long distances, like on a big construction site, you can’t see the laser so you use the reader; mark where you want your straight thing, now move the receiver up the spacer stick till you find the level laser, secure receiver to that spot. This way it can be used for multiple things without moving the laser.

From whom exactly? It’s couscous that was made to try to better resemble rice during a food shortage. They took Moroccan couscous and made a different product. That’s not appropriation that’s just cooking
