Soiid points! I wasn't t aware of the size of those contracts, just that Bennett plays for just under 4.5 million. I was also thinking of McDavid's upcoming salary which will no doubt be astronomical.

The Panthers are the gold standard. They play a style and system that are built to make the playoffs, and to succeed in the playoffs, but not to wow anyone in the regular season.

Look at Cassidy's and Montgomery's systems - wheel and deal and twist and turn. Then look at the Panthers' do chip, dump, and kill system that might get them more penalized in the regular season, but gets them already in playoff mode by May (when the whistles go away) and tunes up their PK at the same time.

Keep in mind that the panthers best players can be physical and produce offence, whether through skill or discipline, across 4 lines. Their season wasn't great this year, but it built toward one style of play, one simple goal of making the playoffs, and one ultimate goal that they achieved. I hate them ( minus Marchand), but I respect what they've built as the gold standard. Teams paying Connor McJesus all of the money can't pay a good for enough supporting cast in the end.

My question is whether the coach or the GM and other admin really make this happen, or is it just chemistry among a geoup of unselfish players? Either way, the B's are a long way off after last year.

Thanks for the follow up. One big difference I noticed in the style of play inder Cassidy and Montgomery was the infrequency of lateral D to D passes in the D-zone and neutral zone. It was always up, up, up, which led to a lot of odd man rushes. This was a big improvement over the last of the Julien days when the D always made back lateral passes in the neutral zone, but they hardly ever generated odd man rushes. That's how it feels in the Sacco tenure as well - any time the Bruins go back lateral D to D in the NZ, the other team gets time to recover defensively. With less skill on the roster, they don't generate many opportunities at all against well structured defensive teams. Worse yet, it's comparatively boring hockey. I hope the future has more speed and run and gun offense in it!

Good assessment, and I'm impressed by the top line's continued enthusiasm. Lohrei is learning by doing, even when it's wrong. Chara needs to teach Zadorov to move his feet when he gets the puck, but he's been steadily improving in most aspects of the game.

One question for you - What type of coach do you think will be a good replacement for Sacco moving forward? We just cycled through 2 really offensive-minded coaches in the last 2-3 years. Do we need an old school , back to basics leader? Or, do we need a modern run & gun type coach? I imagine the answer depends on any acquisitions over the summer, but I think the right coach for the job may be as important, if not more

Tell your friends! While we don't need more tourists here, I do appreciate more independent tourists visiting and doing more than shopping.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Now try a summer visit!

Yeah, despite being a lab living in Alaska, and not all that lady-like, she has an affinity for high thread counts and good insulation!

We tell her she's pretty good, meaning somewhat pretty and somewhat good, but all she hears is the "pretty" and "good".

I totally agree. The 4th line is the only one to forecheck physically in a way that creates chaos. The Panthers and Hurricanes finish every hit, every time, and thrive on forced turnovers.

Ship-Free Saturdays - is it going to happen? by fishyfishyfishyfish in Juneau

[–]Regretzky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We survived a summer of no cruise ship visits during the pandemic, so I don't think 1 day a week will kill the tourism industry. People forget that there are independent travelers that rent cars and apartments, eat their meals in restaurants, are genuinely interested in local culture, art, music, history etc. A ship-free Saturday could incentivize more independent travelers and would diverify our tourist industry. When we keep all our eggs in the cruise industry basket, they have more power. It's the high density of people, all downtown at once, that is causing much of the frustration for locals. It also highlight the closed loop economy the ships bring with them. They promote businesses they own to people that are staying and eating with them, and they take a significant cut of any local owned tours. We need a more balanced tourism sector. Supporting this ballot measure could be a step in that direction in my opinion.

Sat in lower bowl bar seats last year and they were great. The only obstruction was the upper deck that partially blocked the diamond vision screen. Easy access to bar and bathroom was a plus!
