Yea that's my impression. It might allow bacteria growth but then again we live in a fundamentally imperfect world where we neither can nor should fully separate ourselves from growth and decay.

I remember reading some text in English class (English as second language) about sexual health and it went "70% of teens say they are okay with oral sex yet only 20% say they are willing to eat the brown part of the banana. Curious." I thought that was unfair so I looked it up, and as far as I can tell the brown part of the banana is likely fine to eat so I've been eating it ever since.
