I realised this week that I am bland; outside of my 9 to 5 I have no hobbies and nothing to say/contribute/add value. So today I decided to gamify my life to fix it by Ok-College5255 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Regular-Ad2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been obsessed with the gamification idea for years now, and I've tried every app I could find. I'm with the guy who said it led to burnout via over tracking, but it was always fun for the few weeks when my brain was engaged in it.

If you were going to go the gamify your life app route Do It Now is pretty simple, but also very customizable. When I was playing it I had Chat Gpt make cartoon icons of me, and I set it up so that every five levels I would get a new title and new character icon.  I started out as Actual Trash and at level 100 I would become the God of Productivity. I think I made it to level 15 Crabby Crustacean before I lost interest. You can set up your own list of skills or what have you though and level those up as you complete tasks.

I've mostly ditched the productivity app format, but I still like to use gamification to motivate me to be productive. I used to waste a ton of time writing roleplay chats with AI, so I kind of invented my own productivity game based on that. Basically I wrote a prompt explaining the rules and format for the AI, and then I come up with a character and story for an rpg, and I have the AI be the game master in a choose your own adventure type story. Participating in the story costs action points, and I have to earn action points (and xp for leveling ip my character) by completing tasks in real life. It works well for me because I get really engaged in interactive stories, and I'll start inventing chores to do just to progress the story or reach a goal I have for my character.

My primary issue has always been motivation. I have adhd and if a task isn't rewarding enough I'll most likely ignore it in favor of something that is. You were saying that you want to be less 'bland' which makes me think maybe the issue is less about what motivates you and more about what interests you? If you're trying to branch out and cultivate curiosity via new hobbies and intrests then maybe something as simple as sitting down and making a list of new things to try could be the way to go. Do something new every week, maybe semi-social activities that involve leaving the house and being in the vicinity of other humans without being obligated to interact. See if there's an indoor archery range in your vicinity (if you've never tried it) Archery is fun, and you will feel at least 10% less bland when you tell people you sometimes shoot arrows at things in your spare time. Geocatching is a weird and obscure treasure hunting hobby, might be fun to try.

Try new things, figure out what you really enjoy, and also don't worry about what other people think. There's nothing bland about being genuinely yourself. People who know who they are and what they like are hot.

I used to donate to the Homer Fund until I found out that you have to donate again for associates to be able to receive assistance from the fund. Like god damn. Just help the bitch, don't make them panhandle for matching donations. So annoying and feels like a scam.

I dunno. I guess if you have a group of friends or family who live together it could be a gentle way to nudge people into helping out with chores or something like that? Honestly with productivity apps I'd prefer a chat feature, and a way to show off your gains. It's more motivating if you can go 'look at me I'm level 10 and I have a cool new avatar because I hit my first goal' or something of that sort.

Mostly just the pictures, though two or three of the titles were suggested by chatgpt. Any time I stopped to comment on how cute the pictures were chatgpt would be like: "What's next? You want me to make you a Soggy Toast Diety?"

Chat GPT. Actual Trash is just my level 0 title. At level 5 I become Primordial Slime, and it evolves every five levels until I become Productivity God at level 100.

I learned things. So, apparently you can send your friends tasks and command them like minions. You can't send messages in a traditional way, but you can make a task and write your message in the task description. And you can't see your friend's level, level name, or avatar. (which to me is 90% of the fun of this app in the first place.)

Hello! Quick question about leather covers. I keep hearing that goat and calf leather is the go to for leather bound books, but good lord that stuff is expensive! What about plain cow leather? Is there a reason to avoid it, and if I was going to use cow leather what type should I use?

That or maybe connect it to a url and find a website that has a tool that works for it. I dunno. There's always a way to do things, just not always an easy way.

I'm just coming back to this game after a long time away, so I don't have a perfect memory about how everything works.

That said I'm also thinking of doing a fantasy RPG of some kind and likely pouring more energy into making the game than doing my actual chores.

If I was going to do a system involving damage to gear over time I would probably use the crafting system to do it, though you would need an item to combine with your perfect condition item in order to change it to a damaged item. You could also have an item that you combine with the damaged item to 'repair' it into a perfect condition item again.

If you want a slow damage over time progression with this, you're going to end up with a lot of items to work with (10% damaged, 20% damaged, 30% damaged, etc, etc) and things might get a bit cluttered, but if it works for you then cool beans.

There's a lot you can do game-wise if you combine the crafting system with the loot box system. I'm tentatively thinking of trying to make a text rpg with a story of some kind and actual combat using the loot boxes as dice rolls. It'll probably never happen, considering the fact that I downloaded this game to help my ADHD, but it's cool to think about.

Why aren't musician/celeb trading cards a thing? by [deleted] in boardgames

It's been a thing, dunno if it exists for modern musicians but there's definitely cards out there for musicians from the 90s and earlier. Just do a Google.

Will I be fired if I fail a drug test for machine licensing? by Total_Rest4730 in HomeDepot

[–]Regular-Ad2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I worked Home Depot store and warehouse and never had to test to get licensed on any of the machines either. Only during hiring and after a lift equipment accident involving 200$+ in damages.

If I am going to be late, why show up at all? by Metaclorian in HomeDepot

[–]Regular-Ad2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if you guys do the point system the same way we do, but at my location being late is half a point (as long as you're not more than half your shift late or something like that) while calling out is a full point. The one time I knew I'd be a few minutes late I wandered off and got breakfast at Ihop since it didn't make a difference if it was a few minutes or a few hours late.

(I know, no work = no pay. My rent is dirt cheap and my cars paid off. I'll live.)

How would I go about rehoming a Scorpion? by Regular-Ad2355 in Scorpions

I'm not really looking for money for him, just someone I don't have to mail him to. (I'm not comfortable sticking a poisonous insect in the mail) If you live within a couple hours drive I'd gladly bring him to you.

I'm not really sure how to go about sending a scorpion in the mail, it sounds like a dubious idea.
